  • good vid. but no SD360??

  • 1:58 mmmmm viscount!

  • Bring it back bring it back bing it back 747 RIP

  • Great collage of those wonderful aircraft types of yesteryear. Nice selection of mood music to enhance the nostalgic effect as well. 10/10! Kudos!

  • Well put together piece of nostalgia fair play.

  • The house I grew up in in Glasnevin in Dublin, our back grden was in the flight path of aircraft taking off in a southerly direction when flying over. I used to love the sound of the 747 jumbo and the BAC 111 had a massive thundering sound. Great vid and exellent pics,, thanks for posting. Id give anything to travel on a vickers viscount, I love old aircraft.

  • didn't they ever fly the Shorts 330?

  • @altazboy If im correct they did fly the shorts and one went down in the UK somewhere, Im open to correction on this.

  • What about the L-1011?

  • why were some aircraft just completely white like the A320-214

  • I didn't spot a Carvair or a Viking or a Bristol Freighter or a Deragon Rapide or a Lockheed 14 or a DC-3 (the C-47 doesn't count) or a Viscount 700 series.

    Nice compilation all the same.

  • the bae-146 didn't last very long did it ?

  • airbus all the way!!

  • you forgot the SD 360!!!!! How could you????????

  • thats what i was thinking and the boeing 720

  • These are memory lane for 1200 of Aer Lingus maintenance engineers when there was no poticial interferance in the operation of the company

  • were aer lingus the only ones with 747-148 or whats the diffrence between 148 and 200 series

  • @puttytogo The 200 series has a different upper deck from the 148

  • THEY ARE NO GOOD WITHOUT BOEINGS!!! Airbus can suck boeings left nut

  • is that Chris Martin's voice? Why use him?

  • Basically I used this song because the first line is "I used to rule the world" oweing to the fact that these aircraft either no longer fly at all or no longer fly with Aer Lingus.

  • Ah...makes sense. Thanks for the explanation :) BAC-111 might have ruled the world once but not so sure about pudgy BAe-146 :)

  • not sure about some of the 737`s and 747`s but that 767 still flys for el al ...

  • bring back the 747's wooooooooo

  • moving, and FANTASTIC!!! =D

  • Aer lingus is a fine airline!!!! They are the only one's I fly home to when I go to Dublin!!!! SLAITE!

  • this airline dont have any planes hey

  • What do you mean they dont have any planes.

  • Hi,

Aer Lingus also operated Lockheed L1011s before the MD-11s made their debut.

    Cheers,

    Brian

  • i never knew that aer lingus use the dakota dc-3 thanks for posting

  • aer lingus still have the A330s

  • I know yeah, the reason I added the A330 because it's in a different colour scheme (1994). They have however already retired one of their older A330s after the arrival of a new one in February. They will receive another new A330 in June so another of the older ones will also be retired also.

  • EI-EWR left the fleet last week and EI-EDY should arrive in the middle of June. At that stage EI shall have 9 A330, 6 A321 and 30 A320.

The Bae146 remained in service until early 2004.

  • When did they get rid of the bae-146?? 2000, 2001??

  • Aer Lingus Commuter Division which operated the BAE aircrafts merged back into the mainline operations in Feb 2001 although I do believe that it was after the September 11th attacks that they withdrew the BAE from service. A precise date i'm not sure. But they were replaced with the A320s on all UK routes then due to restructuring. Sorry for delay in responding.

  • Hi Conorbyrne100

They were an exceedingly troublesome airplane and became cost prohibitive. Nice concept but no thrust reversers and, of course the inside joke was (is) bAE means "bring another engine."

    Cheers,

    Brian

  • i don't get the joke, is it because the jet was underpowered or something

  • Hi Torque234,

No, not really underpowered, the Lycoming ALF 502 was a problematic motor with very little proof-of-concept time under its belt prior to being delivered to BAE at deHavilland Hatfield. The plane was a "rush job" and a good number of bugs were resolved once the airplane was in service, which is sort of an ass-backward way of doing things. I flew the 502 powered early versions for a short while and had 3 in-flight precautionary shutdowns in 4 months, hence the joke.

    Brian

  • oh right thanks for replying

  • Great Vid! Loved the a333 in the old livery!

  • i never knew that aer lingus had a mcdonnell douglas nor that it took delivery of an airbus b4 they changed the livery?! really informative - thnx

  • Aer lingus's fleet really varied over the years! Amazing is'nt it?

  • Hi

just wondering what do the airports do with the old out of date planes do thay ship them of to a dessert

  • they're generally leased or sold off to other airlines until they are put out of service. possibly the metals are recycled. good question. don't know the extent of it.
