This is a song feat. The Blossoms on FEMALE vocals (feat. Darlene Love/Wright), Capitol April 1963.
Do you know this song of which the vocals are sung by MALE singers dating to June 1963 ? Who are they ? Thanks in advance...I just heard that male vocals a few minutes ago...
Nice to see this on here "King of the Surf Guitar" was literally the first album I ever bought way back when I was 11. Inspired me to nag my parents into buying me a guitar - I still can't play it!! Great memories
I'm not a fan of this type of music specifically (don't hate, we all have different tastes), but man, his fills are amazing. the opening riff just puts me in the sixties driving an old dodge at 4:00 in the morning down a beach.
I know at least one Dick Dale fan in San Bernadino, his good friend, fellow SoCal legend, Frankie Avalon, who owns a home there on the hills. :)
I think if I had to say one thing about this song is that: "it's so unique to hear 2 black female singers sing in unison about a white surf guitar virtuoso." Too bad it's such a short song.
I play this song very loudly in my Camaro T-Top in SoCal for a moonlight drive. More people should, too. Spread the joy!
OH Dick Dale yes so right from San Bernandino to Riverside..I was 4 when this came out my bros would play it on our Packard Bell new Hi Fi. I went on to see so many guitar players on the Sunset Strip to big concert halls. Dick Dale is still one of the best. Sat with SRV and talked about him. This riff is so damn tasty and moving. Play it on Dick..yeah
Jimi gets all the kudos for being the first big-time left-handed gutiar player but Dick Dale was blowing people away, from the left side of the strings, YEARS before Hendrix.
@MrRonnieG But hendrix gave alot of publicized kudos to Dick Dale for changing how people heard the guitar...so its all relative...people give it up to a man who gave it up to THE man...
All those kids come to hear Dick Dale play. Well those were my older bros. They would come home and tell me how DD played. I could'nt wait I was 4 yrs old. Later years I went to work in the music biz with major record compaines in LA. And of course meet Dick what a gent. One of the most underrated guitarist ever. I went to see him 80's and Leo Fender was in the audience and Dick said hello to him. He makes that guitar part of his body. Glad Tarentino used his song. Gave Dick more notice
@Garveergor PLUCK those strings, He Hee :) You're right, Dick Dale did give an orgasm to his Fender guitar strings & still does--check out his new album this year. It has Native American influences to it.
One of Dick's all-time greats !! While he may out in the desert or somewhere, back beyond L.A. & The San Gabriels these days .. who knows (where are you, man !) .. I tend to think that all the old surfers down at Rincon are still playing this gem even today. They never stopped, I'm sure.
Wow, I haven't heard this great song in at least 30 years, but it was a very big hit back in '63 when I was a kid in San Bernardino (one of the cities mentioned in the song). Dick Dale was hot then, and is still hot today. There's something timeless about instrumentals like this, and he was a major, influential talent that almost single-handedly defined surf music in the 60s. Thanks for posting this.
yeah grew up in Huntington Beach, remember all them surf songs in the early 60's. I gotta tell you, that sounds like Darlene Love [Hes a Rebel] on the background. reckon everyone was on the beach back then..
Ooh, how I love this song !! The lyrics beautifully capture Dick's widespread raging popularity throughout the greater L.A. area in the early 60's .. while still giving Dick ample opportunity to go to town, in his usual fashion, on some powerful melody lines & awesome ripping guitar riffs - backed up by that landmark drum-backbeat which was so typical of early surf music. A Knockout, this belongs in EVERY D.D. fan's collection !! Nice little captions in the clip, too, DaedalusJr !!
Backed up by the legendary Darlene Love and the Blossoms.

Don't swear so much, and history will look more kindly on your appreciations, rather than noticing your laziness regarding adjectives.
