The way Carl hybrids hard science with truly poetic, almost spiritual language is so damned inspirational. I always feel like I'm in church for Atheists, listening to him.
This was a great man who lives on in a way that we can still enjoy his wisdom, humanity and fun of life. If only I had had such a man as a teacher when I was at school. Thank you Dr Sagan for having made these films. Your memory lives on.
I remember watching cosmos on public tv way back in the 70s . it drove my wife nuts at the time. she couldnt believe why I would be so interested in something so boring. well she has been an ex wife for decades . but what always amazes me,is that so many people in our society could care less about where we come from or who we are. imagine how great our world would be if all people our leaders saw cosmos and understood. sadly power is still their main focus. Sagan will live forever God bless him
While you're at it, tell a German "Thanks for not killing Einstein." Oh, but wait. We can't judge an entire group of people based on the actions of a few. ;)
@AgApE010 Being 'German' means being part of a race of people,it's not the same as being religious.I was brought up a Christian but now I'm an Atheist.Your analogy doesn't hold since a German can't decide to become an Eskimo.Being German isn't a belief system or a tradition so Germans can't be condemned for what the Nazis did.Christianity is a belief system and a tradition.Part of the Christian tradition and belief system is the impediment of free thought and scientific speculation.
I just wish someone would upload the original versions of this series. Not the edited, changed soundtracks and politically correct INSERTED images. The original is available from Amazon in VHS. Thanks for uploading though. I will ask santa for the original series and upload it. VHS is no problem.
Happy birthday, Carl. I never got to meet you - But my perspective is owed to you. Thank you for allowing me to cast away my ego, thus allowing me to see things in true light.
@DeathsWill228 Well then your foolish, there is tons of evidence to support the claim that a supernatural realm exists, out of all the personal testimonies of people who have claimed to have seen a ghost, the documented story of Jesus Christ, and how he was killed and raised from the dead, My personal experience with the supernatural, tons of cases of people being demon possessed, the power of prayer, and just the fact that us humans even exist, crys out that there is a supernatural realm.
@RespectMyHate We feel the same of eachother. There is tons of evidence to support natural causes explaining all your "Experiences" and that of others. In every Religion there has been reports of "Experiences" and seemingly "legitimate" documentation even within one religion there are contradictions so the accounts of many contradict other religions. They cant all be right. Experiences (especially in Church) are a result of mass hysteria cultured by similarly delusional people. We will see.
RespMyHate - This is just an attempt to feel connected with something greater, or something we are not able to fully understand; Someting that can take care of us..But here is the truth dudde: We are born; We live and we die. I've never heard of anyone who saw a ghost who looks like an ant or bee....because we don't fear them, we don't care about bees or ants..But there's tons of evidence about family members and rock stars who die and keep comunicating with us. PRETTY CONVENIENT ISN'T IT???
this episode is beautiful, Carl manages to entertain the viewers yet opening crucial facts to the viewers. I wonder why shows to day aren't like this anymore.
I love the retro SNES sounds in the backgrounds, reminds me of my childhood. And now in my adult years I'm the field of physics. Best combination for me, the journey of life sure is an interesting one.
I remember when I as a kid used to ask all kinds of unsettling questions about the universe that my Christian parents couldn't answer, protesting loudly if they ever explained anything by a higher power; surely there must an explanation!
it still only has just a little over 7,000...humanity bites DOWN on so much balls...how could anyone ever disagree, just makes you really think about what else must be going on out there...IF WE CAN EXIST!!! It truly does have to be stranger than science fiction out there...
Carl Sagan is one of the rare few who can be enthusiastically optimistic about the future without being willfully ignorant about the problems that keep us from that future.
It's too bad that our society has such a shallow interest in celebrities, and not great people like Carl Sagan. They gave us acting, fictitious drama, and brand-named products. What did Carl Sagan give us? Advances in science, understanding in complex subjects, inspiration, and speeches although using basic vocabulary, borderline poetic. This man has too made me cry.
"Is no one inspired by our present picture of the universe? Our poets do not write about it; our artists do not try to portray this remarkable thing. The value of science remains unsung by singers: you are reduced to hearing not a song or poem, but an evening lecture about it. This is not yet a scientific age" - Richard P. Feynman
Carl sagans cheer empathy and humble wisdom can still move me to tears. In my darkest moments of illness and facing death he has genuinely given my strength to hold on.
Thank you Dr Sagan, sadly you will never know what you have done.
@revolvingdoo What a wonderful sentiment to share about a great man. Good luck to you in your "darkest moments." We'll all pray that your strength continues to persevere.
@revolvingdoo Carl Sagan was a most phenomenal human being and simply is irreplaceable...I miss that guy...simply brilliant and as forward thinking as you can get...why can't people like this be involved in politics as well worldwide...that's what the planet needs...
@revolvingdoo that's very nice, I like that a lot, he was a most special person, and yes very brilliant yet very humble, a rare combination that made for a most special, great person, never to be repeated...
I know exactly what you mean. It's such a beautiful yet bittersweet piece of music, and it makes me think of how sad it is that the limits of our human bodies will prevent any of us who are alive today from fulfilling Sagan's dream and venturing to planets beyond this solar system. Heck, I'd be surprised if astronauts made it to Saturn before the next century.
Hi. I don't know how to say this, but if you like Carl Sagan you're probably a pretty smart person, and I make videos for smart people. This is my demographic. If you like Carl Sagan you will probably like my channel. Thanks.

I like the story about kepler. I need to check out the somnium, it sounds pretty cool.
He was the first to step out into the cosmos, it changed everything.

There is nothing in Christian doctrine that condemns free thought or science. Don't be an ignoramus.
The actions of the Medieval Catholic church are not a reflection on all Christendom or all Christians. This is simple logic.
