I like the Action but this has to be the worst single they ever released.the cheesy horn arrangement and dreadful lyrics.how did george martin let this get past quality control.Reg had a great voice,in my lonely room, since i lost my baby, that is totally wasted on this rubbish.still, shadows and reflections was an improvement as was the equally good b-side something has hit me
@gerryryan Perhaps it is the worst single they ever released, but it's still my fave by far!
IMO, the arrangement is killer - horns, and wicked backing vox on the chorus and verses - signature George Martin minor chords for those backing vox, absolutely amazing stuff.
Also liked this one as it was their own composition - unlike the rest of their singles, which if I recall correctly, were all covers.

this is my favourite Action track off the Edsel album many yrs ago. soundin fresher now than it did when i first heard it, curiously. a 60's beat classic. a great post.
Thanks merseymain, we never heard The Action in Vancouver, we were overloaded with Hippie/Phsycadelic San Fran/L.A. stuff, I saw Small Faces in Dundee while on holiday, I was blown away, you were way ahead of us, they didn't even dig The Who till Tommy in N. Am. Truth.

@gerryryan I like this single but I agree about the horns. If they arranged it differently I think it would of been better.

Wicked stuff. Absolutely love this band -- hadn't heard this track in years . . .
Great vocal performances, esp the harmonies . . . wonder if this was another one of George Martin's productions . . .
