Nothing wrong with a kit lens - I use the same - I am also saving up for some better glass as well. Check out my rose I just posted it today.

used an EOS Rebel Xsi with the EOS utility software connected to a macbook. I think there were about 250-300 shots in all, at 3 second intervals.
This was my first attempt and I ended up talking to a stranger to whom I promised to post this.

Oh, and I used the (unfortunate) 17-55mm kit lens... saving for better hardware.
