Spent hours just playing this album over & over, always put me in a good mood. Was even lucky enough to to see them once at the old Golden Bear in HB.
...was there ever a better surfer movie out there and was there ever a better band than HONK for the surfers...don' t tell me the Beach Boys were.
Lothar.. a German Honk fan who spent many years in Newport / Laguna Beach, never learnt to surf , but became a fan and close friend of the Honk Band and I still get excited to listen to their music today.Tkx Beth and Steve ( and Bob the Hawk ) for the private concert for Lily in January..what would life be without your music and inspiration !!
Still have my Album and movie flyer. I grew up on Oahu, 10 paddles from Ala Moana Bowl. I was a Harbor Rat. My formative years were spent right there and on the North 'Shore at the Pupukea farm. 1969 to 79. I was so in Love with Michael Ho what a great surfer.
played all the time on Oahu. Got us pumped heading to the North Shore. Since I was a Capistrano Boy made me glad to get the vibe from my Laguna brothers. Great era.!
Wow what memories, a 15 year old kid sitting at a old movie theater in Hunt bch. Jaw hanging down in amazment watching Jerry Lozez get totally tubed at pipeline. Too bad surfing has evolved into a bunch of long boarders overcrowding the surf.
@topswing57 What are you saying? Shortboards evolved from the longboard, the ORIGINAL surfing tool. I started on a 10'4" Hawk in 1968, and by the early to mid 70's had progressed to a 5'11" twin fin and by the mid to late 70's had settled into a nice fast 7'0" rounded pin that was so fast only a longboard could catch up with me on any wave. Then a few years ago I started bodyboarding and got hooked and have been bodyboarding since the early 90's. I still bodyboard, but I bought a 9'0" for SanO.
Agreed. The best surf band ever. What a talented group, and tied to the best surfing film ever made with the best sound track. Nothing even today comes close.
@mezcan1 I know, true dat! I used to hang at Natural Progression Surf Shop in Santa Monica Canyon, and remember the guys calling into KMET to record the surf report.
Wonder if any of my Los Alamitos HS class of 75 remember when Honk played a concert in our gym. Very cool. Thanks for the memories!
