I love them both, I respect Star Wars a bit more, because Lucas invented an entire world from scratch, whereas Lord of the Rings borrows heavily from this one, and is of course, an adaptation of Tolkiens work. They are both excellent for what they intended to do.
not medieval. its ficitional hence fantasy and the lord of the rings is set in the third age of tolkien lore so you should use the appropriate term for that period of time (idk what it is) and while i agree with you that they should not be compared i dont think its because of genre classification but star wars= original, lotr= book to film adaptation that is more paying homage and respect to source material

Third Age of Tolkien - is fantasy.
It is BASED on medieval, pre-medieval Northern European warfare. With fantasy elements.
Vikings (Rohan) Germanic tribes (wild men) English knights in Gondor etc.
Nothing wrong with that - it's just a style of story telling. But is completely different to the Star Wars style.
A more accurate comparison would be Lord of the Rings....and..Willow, or Robin Hood.
