  • Its Expensive , but nice job at painting it !!! :o

  • @IvanChow123456 Thanks, I got this when it first came out and it indeed was a expensive purchase, and thats before I factor in the cost of the paint. HLJ frequently have it on sale with discounts of up to 35% from time to time. Its a great kit but the HG version is the one I'd recommend to casual fans of The-O.

  • Very nice! ever thinking of doing the MG Seven Sword painted? that would be awesome!

  • @macrossjs I've a PG 00 Raiser in my backlog that I hope to build and paint in the spring. The MG SS is an awesome kit, have you been tempted to pick on up?

  • @tc012009 Yeah I'm planning on getting that kit. I'm still working on my Macross Frontier 1/72 Armored Alto.. just need to find a time to finish it :(

  • Its THE O-MG!!!!

  • @quadjun LOL, thanks :D

  • simply fantastic !

  • @TheCrimsonNova Many thanks, glad you liked it.

  • i love your work! pls post more of painted gunpla

  • @earnshare2 Many thanks for your comment. I'm planning lots of painted gunpla projects for 2012.

  • Nice yellow rendition man! What yellow did you use? :-)

  • @lordtorquemada Thanks, I painted this with Rustoleum painters Touch - Sun Yellow Spray paint - large hardware stores usually stock the brand.

  • TC YOU ARE A KILLER!!!!

    PERFECT!!!!

  • @REBOOTYOURSELF100 :D Thanks glad you liked it.

  • very clean mate loving this!

  • @enensis Many thanks Sir, I used Rustoleum spray paints on this and was pleased with the finish. The-O is a favorite Mobile Suit of mine.

  • nice paint!

    nice work!

  • @tkmr01021213 Thank you, I am happy that you liked it.

  • O _ O how heavy is that thing

  • @wintenxu Pretty heavy, its about the same weight as two regular MGs Gundams (its a big model) , are you interested in building one of these?

  • Epic paint job I watch a video like this and it makes me want to go trash my kits

  • @GameFuelFTW Thanks, I'm really pleased you liked it :)

  • O! You really detail dat thing good! Great Job!

  • @TheIkawatay Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :)

  • I really wish I had your steady hand :P I can never get my work to come out as nicely

  • @kawapen2 Good to hear from you Sir, hope you're keeping well.

I find that the trick with the detail painting is lots of practice and some very fine sized paintbrushes.

  • @tc012009 As well as I can be, just about to move into a new house and start looking for a new job.

I can never seem to get a fine, even coating on properly. It always smears and looks awful :P

  • Can't remember if you bought this beast at launch as well, but I know it hurts me to see it sold at the discounts it's currently going for.

Really love your work. I usually hate slideshow vids, but they really help show off all the details you manage to pick out in a way that a regular video simply couldn't.

  • @Grarrgle Thanks, this was indeed a launch purchase but HLJ were giving a early bird discount of 15% at the time which took a bit of the sting out of the RRP. In all honesty, the RRP of 12,000 is far to high for the model, 8,000 feels about right. BTW, I've the HG version as well and it represents much better value for fans of this mobile suit.

I'm really pleased you enjoyed the slide show, sometimes it s the best way to show off a painted model.

Are u working on any kits at the moment?

  • Hehe, you even upped you dio-slideshow as well.

Real treat to see this big guy glide across the screen XD

The decals really help to give the guy an edge (but you probably heard that many times by now LOL)

Keep up the good work, sir!

  • @AriesTheUmpteenth Thanks Sir, I'm really pleased with the finished model. My two favorite mechs are the White Glint and The-0 so its great to have a 1/100 scale version of that monster completed.

Aside from a kit for Kamms competition, my summer will be dedicated to kotobukiya kits. I'm aiming to build at least one Armored Core kit, a Zoid and perhaps a Muv-Luv!!

The decals really helped on this model, I'm actually enjoying working with them but I must invest in some Mr.Mark softener.

  • OMG this is fantastic, the paint scheme is immaculate and the colors you picked are perfect, this is a brilliant MG The-O. Love seeing your work TC , what have you planned next?

  • @NineballBreaker Thanks, really pleased you like it. I'm still trying to decide on my next gundam, any suggestions?

  • @palpatine1975 I was very impressed by the Humbrol Gun metal I used on The-O and would highly recommend that shade, it really helps to give the inner frame a solid metallic look. Green is much more tricky to pick, do you have any shades/ brands do you have access to?

  • The O came out great. The decals really made a difference on this kit. With the sheer size of this model I can see why it took you so long but in all the results amazing.

  • @shurkaku Many thanks, I think the decals really helped the look of the finished model and made the armor a little more interesting. Its amazing how dig this kit is when finished, its almost the same size as a PG, now the only problem I have is finding somewhere to display it :P

  • Tc great job that's a lot decals for this MG

  • @MrDannii83 Thanks, glad you liked it. LOL, I think theres about 100 decals on the model at present, it took over 6hr to apply them.

  • I love how that turned out. You got this kind of results from Rustoleum too. Maybe I should try their paint on my next kit. Saw painters touch in a local Home Depot for less then $4.00 and you get 100ml. I use Tamiya and Testors and they're more expensive for less the 1/4 of that. Oh, I agree that you should use your airbrush. I bought the Spray gun from Citadel and the times I used it the model looked nice even though it was equivilant to a single action airbrush.

  • @gunplanut You should give the rustoleum paint a try, I really like it and the finish I get from it on my models is usually pretty good. I'd love to try out the tamiya spray paint, they've some excellent shades (camel yellow is excellent). I plan to start using the airbrush a lot this summer, I've got some nice paint to try out.

  • @tc012009 I think that I will on a future kit because it's cheap, you don't need really low humidity to use it and you've gotten great results. Oh, little cleaning trick for plastic.... Try using Windex on the frames of the kit before you remove them from the sprues. Someone told me about this and I tried it on my Desert Zaku for the first time and you can feel the difference.

  • TC THIS O RULZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....dude your painting skills just keep pushin the bar man...i agree with the others and think u should start airbrushing...if ur kit looks this amazing with spray and handpaint just imagine the looks youll get from an AB !! again fantastic job buddy :)

  • @mobilesuit101 LOL that a million mobilesuit101, I'm really happy with the feedback that the paint scheme has received. I hope to get a lot of airbrush practice in over the summer.

  • Nice!!!!! I've heard some people online complain about the price, however you make it look worth every penny.

  • @gunhed70 Many thanks, its an expensive model and unless you're a big fan of the mobile suit its very hard to justify the price, I also have the HG version and its an excellent kit.

  • This came out really great TC. I still can't believe that yellow is from a can! lol Looking forward to your next build.

  • @cadderly Thanks Squee, it looks like the yellow paint has been a hit with several people. It funny, but to my eye I can see several blemishes with the finish , theres a section on the rear skirt where it pooled a bit (its under the extra vents I added). I'm actually considering using this color on HG Kshatriya, what do you reckon?

  • Hey Tc what is this SONG? i have been wondering for like years >.< lol! also wow I didn't know you can accomplish such awesomeness with spray Cans it's about time I do the same with my closet filled with Gunpla ^_^ i am ready to step up my game.

  • @ShadowLoki77 Even though I have an Airbrush, all of the model that I've worked on for the past year have been painted with spray paint, as long as you coat you model with several thin coats, you'll be able to achieve a great finish.

The music comes from the soundtrack to the PS3 game Heavy Rain, if you do a search for "Ethan Mars theme" on youtube you'll get the complete track (I only used a segment of the song).

  • 11/10 tc this thing looks amazing!! the decals give it that finished look for sure!!!! great detail and great job with the spray cans!!! looks airbrushed like kamm said! flawless victory!!!

  • @SNEEPER1980 Many thanks Sir, I'm really pleased that you liked it. Its just goes to prove that spray paint can be underrated, I used rust-oleums paint on this and they gave really great results.

  • Amazing work man!... wow... cant believe you sprayed that yellow on... looks airbrushed bro. Also AS always the detailing is INSANE haha love it. As I also have this kit I cant see that the work you put in really is not easy. I take my biggest hat off to you bro.

Thanks for sharing with us and great final pose. (and music!) Stay cool bro

  • @kamniks Many thanks Kamm, even though I had much bigger plans for the model, I'm pleased with how it turned out. The armor is painted using Rust-oleums Painters Touch Sun Yellow and its a really great quality paint, although I can spot a few places where the finish isn't perfect :P

Detailing is probably my favorite part of painting a model and unfortunately The-0 doesn't offer a lot of opportunities to do this, I think the decals really helped this model to have more character.

  • wow... you just made this kit look like a Kotobukiya kit!! its definitely one of the best O's ive seen done by someone im familiar with... all that hard work and patience really pays off

  • @zversus Many thanks Z, I actually started this in November last year and got distracted by several other kits so I've been painting it on and off for almost six months.

The biggest problem I had was the lack of actual sculpt detail on the kit, it really felt like a upscaled HG (I've also that version).

I'm working on an Armored Core model at the moment, it great to get back to a really detailed kit.

  • Beautifully done tc! Your paint job is really amazing. I think the next step for you is to finally start using your airbrush. XD Looking forward to your next project!!!

  • @Gomenchaiii Thanks Kibo, I agree, i really need to get going with the AB. I'm currently trying to pick my next model, stuck between a Koto Muv-Luv kit and the HG Astrea Type F (in Exia colors).

  • @tc012009 I say test it on the HG first. ;)

  • I really like this color, the yellow is really bright, its kinda like a lamborghini sorta yellow, it makes the-O's standard yellow color look too bland, amazing paint job!

  • @windrarjs Many thanks, I used Rust-oleums Sun Yellow spray paint on the model and I also really liked the shade, I plan to use it during the summer on a Kotobukiya Muv-Luv kit.

  • I really like all the details you put into this kit. It looks great but I did see a couple of decals that popped out a little.

  • @josiebeara Thanks, the waterslides have been giving me a few problems on this model. The main armor is painted with rustoleums sun yellow, and this may be creating difficulties getting the decal to stick to the surface. I'm hoping that a top coat will sort out the problem

  • @tc012009 You might want to try some Mr. Mark softener or something like that. You can find it at R4L

  • @josiebeara Thanks, I'll pick some up and try it out, they waterslides were applied about three days ago, hopefully they're still fixable.

  • looks very clean. Nice details you got there TC. Awesome work!

  • @meadeslemicah Thanks meads, it took a long time, but I'm glad to finally have it finished.

  • Looks amazing, and nic music to go along with it.

  • @ziljin Thanks, the music is actually from the soundtrack to the game "Heavy Rain" on the PS3.

  • @tc012009 Nice. Never heard of the game though. I am out of touch when it comes to games.

  • All I have to say is O Baby! Excellent job sir this is a beautiful kit.

  • @Bismarck0 Many thanks, The-0 has always been a favorite of mine, and I'm really please by how this turned out.

  • Neat but i do like the red gunmetal silver thing you have going on instead of the teely green color

  • Neatbut i do like the red gunmetal sulver and red thing you have going on instead of the teely green color

  • @Animestudiosnow Thanks, the metallic red effect (candy red) was achieved by painting several layers of tamiya clear red onto pieces which had be sprayed with rustoleum elegant silver. Its a really easy effect to achieve and looks great on a model.

  • @tc012009 I agree 100%

  • Like a boss!

  • @soldier4670 Thanks, glad you like it.

  • @tc012009 Whoa~~ It looks awesome!!!!!!!! I wish I could make Gunpla as well as you!! >_<

  • @suiton629 I pretty happy with how it turned out. All it take to achieve a finish like this is patience and some practice, over 80% of the model is simply spray painted.

  • That is one mad display piece!! Fantastic details as usual, that must've took weeks to do and it shows!

  • @vitzrsx Thanks, its a tricky model to paint because its armor lacks so much detail. I think the waterslides helped to make it slightly more interesting to look at.

I've been working on this off and on for ages, I would think in total it took about three weeks to paint, but this time was spread over almost six months.

LOL, my next gundam will be a nice easy SD or HG!! I'm burnt out on MGs at the moment :P

  • i can see that a few of the decals are starting to silver D:

  • @pegbster I noted that also (these were applied about three days ago) , these are the bandai original waterslides and you would expect the quality to be very high (but they're only average).

I've still to apply a top coat to the model so hopefully that will sort out the problem.

  • Yep, without the decals the armor is simply too plain, at the design phase I'm surprised that Bandai couldn't at least introduce some fine panel lining to give it some character. 60% of this model really feels like an upscaled version of the HG.

That been said, its one of my favorite mobile suits and I'm actually please with how it turned out in the end, its a MG that really need a lot of effort to get the most out if it aesthetics.

  • *cries manly domon tears* Its beautiful :'D

  • @regirock57 LOL, thanks, I can't say that it was the most fun I've ever had with a MG, but I'm please with how the final model turned out. Also in the course of painting this I've found a really great shade of yellow which I hope to use again an future models (Rustoleums Sun Yellow)

  • The decals make a different to this one! Looks very nice.

  • @Wizartar I'm a big fan of waterslides, they can really transform a model. I wish Bandai would release some new sets , particularly for their PG range.
