This is a bit ridiculous. A good faculty member is clear, not cryptic, about what they want. There are plenty of faculty at UMBC who are very clear about what they want. The ones who are cryptic are not worth working with. And also if students can't figure out some of this on their own, then the probably shouldn't be graduate students.
