@purplejaybird Ok well your wrong. Joe Bonamassa is better than Sayce and Derek is waaaaaay better than Bonamassa. Seen them all live! Kenny wayne sheapnherd when he was on fire was as good as Phillip Sayce and he couldn't be Derek Trucks guitar tech in my opinion. I promise Derek can play the blues with MORE feeling, then bust a slide out and rip out the craziest slide. He is amazing with or without the slide on. Sayce is a one trick pony where as Derek plays Jazz/Ragga/Indian/everything.

Incredible jam!! I'd like to see Derek Trucks jam with Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin together. A new twist on the old "Love, Devotion,Surrender" style. I think that would be one of the most dynamic guitar combinations ever. I don't think it will ever happen, but I sure would like it to.

it was a medley Santana was doing. it started off as Miles Davis' 'In a Silent Way' and kinda went in a couple directions, then it went into Yaleo. I don't think it even went into "It's About That Time" though.

When it comes to the question of who is a better guitarist, you need to really look at there styles. Neither one of them are better than eachother. They play different styles. When any instrument long enough you realize that technical skill can be learned, but style is all your own. You can learn licks perfectly from a guitarist but it will never sound the same. I love both of these guys for what they do. Their styles! Derek is amazing on slide and Santana is one of my favorite guitarist ever

Most people dont think like that unless you actually play music, even then there is a great line of ignorance, that being lack of knowledge, whos the best, to each their own is all I ever say. Because you can never win this battle with someone who does not play and understand what music is, to them style is the clothes they wear. Sanatana is a living legend and Derek will be soon, that really it in a nut shell. I truly dislike the statement well he is better than him from someone who knows nada!

Do you really ever hear them saying whos best? Never - then learn from the ones who actually know, the players, not the individuals think they know, because they dont. Its their opinion. To each their own! How do you judge "who is the best?" Licks per second, songs written, years in business, feeling music gives you, accomplishments with awards, tell me great knowledable ones, did you ever think to ask them, those actually playing the music, whats their opinion, you might be amazed! google it

I agree!!! I have played guitar for 20 years and know music well. I have followed guitarists from Clapton to Vai and one of my favorite thing to do is follow their influences. Its amazing what they say about other players and who they admire as a musician. Music is more than sound! Its Soul.

Look man! Santana fans hate me because I criticize Carlos for not becoming a more "complete" guitarist when he had the chance and was in his prime.

You see, I listen to a lot of Jazz/Fusion artists. But let me tell you, btw Hendrix, Santana, SRV and Jeff Beck everyone else in their genre is a jerk off! And that includes all the shredder/wankers like Vai, Satch, Yngwie, Petrucci and an endless list of others. They can't touch Carlos! Only the jazz cat's are better IMO!

Derek is great, but Carlos is one of the VERY FEW (Buddy Guy and BB King) that have massively improved with age, instead of declining. Have you heard Carlos's new shit? He RIPS IT!

Derek is amazing - not least his combined finger picking / sliding technique. Sounds like Carlos used to back in his creative prime period in the 70's and early 80's. Carlos deciding to sit down in the background pretty much says it all. Derek owns the stage on this one !
