Now im only 17, call me dumb and insult me in which ever way you please, but I don't understand why people want to keep the car the exact same as when it came out of the factory. I think as long as you don't put 26' rims on it and make it look retarded as hell , you're good.
Forgot to mention the car has a true '87 corvette block which had a mechanical fuel pump meaning it was carb'd at one point but then a plate was installed to cover the fuel pump recess and is now TPi FI.
Hows it going...Im formerly rubenpendejo lol but since I havent logged on for a long while, my account was canceled. I actually found out I have an '87 corvette ported L98. As far as the cam, I don't really know much about it exactly other than its a comp cams cam who knows what model...The previous owner gave me the paper work to the cam but that didnt even tell much either about the cam.

they didn't make the 350 TPI with a 5 speed, it can't be the original tranny.... they only offered a 700r4 4 speed auto with the 350, 305's could opt for the 5 speed.
the reason is simple though it is not an option its a swap... The 5.7-liter engine was not available with a manual transmission due to emissions certification and the prodigious amount of torque it produced so the 5.0-liter TPI V8 (RPO LB9) was available as a credit option in the GTA. This engine could be equipped with an automatic or manual transmission,
if u want to make sure check ur VIN number and check the 8th digit F is for 5.0 and 8 is for 5,7... but trust me there is no such thing as a factory built 5 speed L98 equipped gta the 5-speed wasnt strong enough
usually people upgrade they're exhaust systems to an aftermarket type such as flowmasters like i got and usually that does the trick to make it louder as well as add horses. i personaly want to purchase a chambered exhaust for mine. Its a little pricey but well worth it. maybe down the road upgrade to some headers as well which deepens the exhaust note a little. thanks for the comments fellas! l8r!
if you have t-tops like me, better buy some hotchkiss subframe connectors first, however if you have the dual catalytic converter installation you will have to install the y pipe as close as possible to the headers and run a 3 inch pipe from front to back to allow clearence for the subframes... trust me with that kind of car you definetly need those
BS, while the unibody is definitely not as rigid as newer cars, they are not so weak that they permanently tweak themselves My car has been on jack stands more than any other car 3rd gen I know of, and its still straight.
if you have t-tops and a l98, its not a luxury to install subframes and a 3 point strut tower brace, ask around other 3rd gen owners, ask your mechanic if you modify your engine or you like to floor the gas pedal, you'll end up with frame problems its not a myth it is true. Hard tops are less likely to have this problem, but Pontiac shouldnt had put a 5.7 in t-tops in the first place
@siuoloj Incorrect. T-top 3rdgens don't need sub-frame connectors, its a nice thing to have. The benefits are a stiffer frame, and with perimeter mount SFCs you get easy jacking points too. But by no means are they a must have or your frame will crack. SFCs will stiffen the frame, and allow the suspension to work better as they eliminate the 5th spring effect.
Unless you are launching on full slicks and a big boy stall, you don't need SFCs. They are good to the bottom 12s without SFCs.
Lol this video was filmed by the previous owner before he sold it to me...I had to go all the way to dallas, TX to pick the damn thing up since you hardly see em around in my area....was it worth it? for 3k Hell yeah!
@rubenpendejo man youre damn lucky to own a GTA! i was about to get one but someone beat me to it so i ended up buying a 89 IROC. i love camaros but i would love to own a GTA!!!!
very fast!, top speed 145 0-60 in about 5 seconds, they come with a 5 speed manual transmission or a 4 speed automatic with overdrive, barely touch the pedal and it opens up and I had a Carbureted model, with tuned port injection, throttle response is a little crisper, fast car, love 'em...
Yeah, my cousin has an 89 GTA and it's a real nice car, I would suggest the 89 GTA cuz it has less miles on the motor and parts for these cars are readily available, you should order a catalog from YEAR ONE, SPECIFICALLY FOR 82-92 CAMARO/FIREBIRD, the engines are very durable cuz they're cast iron all the way around, all you probably would have to do is put a flowmaster exhaust on it, do a tune-up, and you should be real good, let me know how the car's coming when you get it
Both are 20th edition, but the GTA is more of a collectors choice. price is about right. 7300 is a pretty good price actually if the car is in good shape. The GTA's hold book value really well. They run like scalded dogs.
Sounds great!
Which headers you got in it?
Is the sound different than before installation?

Just picked up an '87 for $2500 with 140,000. And, it has the 5-speed. The only one I've seen with that option in person.
Repainted out of '87 stock, but for the better with the awesome '92 Medium Blue Metallic paint.

My bad, it's stock Medium Maui Blue Metallic with the T-tops running the 5.7L 350 TPI.

i have 87 iroc factory 350 auto t tops. em i good w/out subframe connectors?
outcastMETALchild89 2 years ago
You NEED subframe connectors and probably u already need to stretch ur frame by now those cars werent made to handle such power with a t-top
protect your investment, u dont want to end up with a torn frame and a worthless car
