I reckon for th first few episodes at least Booth will not remember Brennan. He dosn't remember telling her about smiling at a crime scene. I think he's a bit different now, which is going to put a strain of his relationship with Brennan. I hate the dream idea. Hated season four finale really. The best bit was the ending.
the finale in it's own right was awesome. I didn't like it at first, but after the initial it was all a dream (or was it?) shock of the century, I realized in it's own right, it was a really good episode. The sex scene according to HH wasn't just in his dream. It's really hard to explain.
The series four finale at best can be called "just okay." There's no way it was awesome. For a start the 'crime' had loads of plot holes in it. To me HH thought to himself how can i get B & B in bed without them being in bed but made the episode about that and not about the actual story. It's like we lost the finale to that one scene. We'd just seen Booth's surgery in the ep before and now we have a pointless murder that's nothing to do with the characters we know.
I would have had Brennan waiting in the hospital at Booth's side, then her start talking to him and mention the day they met. Then we should have had THAT story in flashback [a murder, of course too, but relevant to the story because it introduces us to how they met] then back at the hospital, booth waking up and not remembering brennan. How much better would that have been? and how much more emotional would that have made it for the audience? Think
Brennan's not someone who sits by someone's bedside and reminisces, Hell she would've rather worked than gone to Booth's funeral. So that'd have been more OOC than a fake sex scene. Second, the crime wasn't the major point in this plot. For one it was a dream, so it being "realistic" would have been stupid. Also, the "who are you" wasn't because he doesn't know her, it's because he's not sure which brennan he is. IF you actually like this show...
go watch/read interviews with the actors and HH who have gone to the end of the earth and back explaining the finale. He said from the beginning that the finale was for the seriously devoted fans and that it was his way of giving back after having a horrible season of being moved around in time slots and being cut for MLB and American Idol.
As a matter of fact, if you message me I can direct you to some good interviews that explain the finale. For one you can start by watching the Comic Con interviews. They're a bit hard to hear but not impossible. And I know where you can find a transcript. If you actually care, I'd be more than happy to help you understand it a little better, if not, thats you're thing. Like I said the finale was a thank you from hart to his devoted fans. He said himself the less devoted wouldn't be impressed.

Then we would have something in relation to our characters. Something that pulls the plot together. They maybe could have put in the rest of the characters too [Angela, Sweets etc] as different people to just confuse the watcher a bit, to make the watcher think, is it real? Or is Booth dreaming?
It still would have made more sense for the watcher than the pointless murder we got. You say the crime wasn't important, that the dream is. But the crime and dream are connected, the crime taking up most of that episode. Most people didn't even know what was going on in the beginning. Suddenly B & B in bed together. The sex scene was pointless too, because it wasn't really THEM. B & B finally kissing. But i felt nothing. It didn't mean anything. It wasn't the characters we know.
Lastly, you say the 'who are you?' isn't because he doesn't know her, you think he was asking her which Brennan she is? The one from his dream or the real one. With my idea he still could have been asking her the same thing, but with my idea there's so much more effect on the watcher. How could anyone not be moved, after hearing how they met, after being together for four years, and then suddenly he doesn't remember her. It would have made a real emotional cliffhanger.
All I'm doing is telling you what I've learned from other viewers and from Hart Hanson, Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz. They've all said it a million times, that he does KNOW her, but he doesn't know which Brennan she is, his nightclub owning wife or his crime fighting partner.
I know i'm venting at you and i'm sorry but i do feel so passionately about this because i love the show so much and i just think they handled it so wrong. With the backlash HH got i think he's starting to think the same thing. The point is HH shouldn't HAVE HAD to keep explaining it the audience. The story should have been so well put together and so brilliant people should have been raving about it, not asking him to explain. Although i would happy to read the things you suggested to me :)
P.S I have been writing a bones fan fiction on the website. I started it before 'the end in the beginning' and decided it worked so well with the 'who are you' bit that i added that. Perphaps you would like to read it. It explains a bit better what i had in mind.
And he said he regretted it not being more clearly expressed. However you're jumping to conclusions prematurely. Give the season opener a chance. A LOT of confusion will be cleared up in that first hour back. I think it was well written and put together. Yeah I felt jipped at first, but I have some faith in Hart, he's gotten us this far and being secured two more years he has to be doing something right.
So his reality is still really quacky? Like he still remembers his dream from when he was in a coma. Cuz that's what I'm thinking that he remembers Brennan but is really distorted from reality and dreams.
