  • Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! The men looked mighty fine while dancing ;)

  • Now this is real dancing, not that gross stuff that passes for dancing today.

  • They make it look so easy o.O

  • i wish i had the pose, stage presence and pressicion the girls have (my english is disastrous haha)

  • Beautiful music.

    Especially after the pause (3:50)

    Just magnificant.

  • Psh I'm an Irish dancer and I used to think ballet was totally not as hard, but now I TOTALLY admit that (esp. at the upper levels) it is JUST as hard, if not harder....... but I still love Irish most<3

  • Fucking Class!!

  • Yeah, im a junior tamburitzan, and my teacher is one of the best dancers in the world. And he agrees that russian is my strong point =P

  • Fuck dude. Don't get in a dance fight with Russian dancers. They will boot your ass into the next time zone with awesome aerial stuff.

  • I really like this one. =)

  • that so awesome

  • The 1995 original dance was much better

Still, the dancers here smile and look like they’ve been working hard.

  • @Lisichkasestrichka the original was better but one has to realize that they are competing with pure brilliance. i am glad that this new version had some new stuff in it but i felt like there wasnt as much of a storyline as in the original. kudos for trying and looking great.

  • I know that everyone in river dance is in f-ing awesome shape because when I was trying to teach myself Irish step dancing my legs burned and keeping my back strait all that time hurt! I just love watching this it always makes me smile and puts me in a good mood:]

  • i prefer the 1995 original of this

  • whats the dervish thing about it?

  • ik doe ook riverdance me da kan ik nog lang ni zene veel te moeilijk moet nog lang oefenen

    yelke

  • Better than the 1995 orijinal lineup. these guys have much more depth of emotion in their dancing. they seem to feel the music.

  • I know that, as an Irish dancer, I'm supposed to say that my favorite part of Riverdance was the Irish dancing, but it was totally the Russian dancers.

  • Oh... My... God... That was awesome. The core strength and stamina it must take for them to do that!!! Total props to them.

  • I like this one more then the originals. They are amazind! That what they do is so so hard. The music, the dancers-the are perfect! It's magical!I love it!!!

  • Fabulous performance....positively breathtaking. However, I must admit, I prefer the "original" troupe of russian dancers that appeared in the 1995 original version.

  • It is choreographed by Igor Moiseyev in 1994. Riverdance asked him to put the dance. He gratis did that and sent a group of his dancers(known now as "Moscow Folk Ballet Company") that they have taught Irish. But Riverdance lured those Russian dancers, and they became to dance in Riverdance(but very soon they were sacked). And now in the titles Moiseyev isn't an author. The result-Riverdance making money and not paying for author's rights.

  • LOVEEE ITTTTTT.

  • 4:10 ... omg.

  • Great! I just wished they kept the original costumes of the ladies the same!

  • This version has more variety in coreography! I love it! I still like the 1995 version more though - idk I feel like this is lacking something. Still amazing stuff though :)

  • this is amazing

i do contortion and the feeling that come from performing with amazing music just make everything magical :D

  • Original Macedonian Oro!!

  • all this is even crazier when you see it live :D

  • I like this one but I still like the one from the original Riverdance :)

  • Irish/Russian culture symbiosis - looks great! ))))

  • This was easily one of the many highlights of seeing Riverdance live several times. Fantastic music and fantastic dancing. What stamina!

  • prefer the old moves

  • Godddddddddddddddddddddd

  • more of these please!!! would love to learn this!!

  • fantastic dance and fantastic music!!!!

  • ista é unha mezcla de música rusa coa música celta??...que espanto!!!!

  • i love this dance sooooooo much

  • I taped this show when I was little, now and then I watch it, and still love it.

    Timeless music, great dancing.

  • @marinkaaaa

Well.. timeless is a big word dont you think?

And I guess your mom/dad taped it. Not you.

    Just to set things straight!

  • @dionneeee18

    Dee, you sack of wine.

  • what is the name of the second tune to the song?

  • they ARE really great! anyone who says differently must just not count this as dancing (ridiculous, but they are entitled to their opinion i suppose). there is no denying, however, that these professionals are highly skilled at what they do :D I enjoyed it very much! bravo!

  • The music definitely doesn't match up, but the dancing itself is wonderful, I really like it.

  • meh. not as good as the original. lacks the energy i think :/

  • @b4rocklegendx: I agree. It also seems to lack the spontanaeity of the original

  • the towers on the background are those from the Kremlin in Moscow ;)

  • i like this dance from 3:50

  • I am a Russian from Russia. I really like Riverdance. And I want to say something.

Performers dance very well. But ... this music is absolutely not suited to this dance. This is an absurd mixture.

And the name "Russian Dervish" is also an absurd combination of incongruous concepts.

I think that this music and this name should be changed to Russian music and a more appropriate name. And then I will be long and strong applause.

Sorry for the computer translation into English.

  • From Wiki: Many Dervishes are mendicant ascetics who have taken a vow of poverty, unlike mullahs. The main reason they beg is to learn humility, but Dervishes are prohibited to beg for their own good. They have to give the collected money to other poor people.

Sounds a bit like Leo Tolstoy. I see no reason why a Russian Dervish would be incongruous.

  • Dervis is the concept of the Muslim religion. Russian people have always been and is the Christian religion. Therefore, the "Russian Dervish" bizarre and illogical as "salty sugar" or "dry water" or "non-combustible gas".

As for Arab music and Russian dancing style. Try to imagine a Viennese waltz or Argentine tango under this Arabic music.

    Sapienti sat.

  • I do not think this music has anything to do with Muslim Culture however I do see your point on the religious figure thing!

  • @palych64 First of all. A dervish is not a religion nor a concept. Its a dance performed by Sufi followers, a Muslim sect. Second of all. There are no elements of Arab music in this. Time signatures, instruments, etc. The string instrument used is a gadulka, which is of Bulgarian origin. Riverdance is about cultural symbiosis, not cultural correctness. Its a fusion of Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Macedonian music styles. Get your facts straight.

  • In lay speak, Dervish is a type of dancer who spins around himself following a very fast melody. They are mainly seen in middle-east shows but I think some Russian dances also have this kind of spinning. The title "Russian Dervish" refers to the dancer, not the ascetic.

  • Best version

  • Amazing!!!! They are my favorite

  • Wow, & these are the guys who supposedly couldn't make the cut with the Bolshoi or the Mariinsky???

  • Comment removed

  • They are all really strong. And I don't just mean the guys. The girls have to hold up their body weight and either hold still in a pose while the guys swing them, or they have to move themselves around while in the air. Trust me, that is hard and takes a whole lotta core strength.

  • @Thenrah Most definitely! A woman in any form of dance must be very strong. In a partnering situation a woman could have the strongest, most experienced partner, but if she has no core strength it won't go well. I think many people forget partnering is a team effort and just go "Omg! That man (or those men) is/are so strong!" but the women have to be equally strong

  • omg thats so kool basiclly impossible

    i do ballet and tap

  • i really like it.

my question is how many times do you think those guys have dropped the girls :L and how do they then trust their partners after being dropped:L

  • beautiful!

  • The coolest part is at 2:30 threw 2:38

  • My favorite part of riverdance!

The first part of this dance sounds more Macedonian than russian. The rhythm is 15/16 (counted 2+2+2+2+3+2+2)

and the introduction features the gadulka a bowed instrument used throughout the balkans.

  • thank you, I learned something

  • i dont think any of the more recent versions of this dance are nearly as good as the one in the early 90's, they just had to much more energy, as if it was coming naturally. everyone nowadays you call tell they've been practicing this as a routine

  • best. dance. ever.

  • M -a-r-v-e-l-o-u-s!

  • Nice clothes!

  • I don't know about any body else, but everybody in this show seems like they dance so much more for the joy of it, more so than the recent one. Joan butler looks happier, same with maria pages and these performers, they just look.... happier

  • They're used to the shows routine.

  • hay guise, lets brake the lawz of fisix 2dai yah?:

  • XD Haha!

  • 5:21 to the end.

    Just... wow.

  • Great stuff!

  • Cool finally some one with the same valid opinion :-)

  • The oriental music was lovely.........the combination of Irish trad dancing and russian trad dance was excellent........

  • If I remember my russian history class right, I do believe that the Kievan Rus (forerunners to russia as we know it now) invited Viking descended rulers in as their ruling class. The vikings also mixed with the celts, so perhaps there is a connection somehow there.

  • Oh, pleas. The Kiev Rus and modern Ruaaland are different countrys! Even modern Ukrain, on wich teritory located earlyer Kiev Rus, and Rus are different. It's another volk, you know. It's like Antic Greece and modern Greece.

They could be conected to Viking but it was to long agou

  • Oh, I do seem to recall that 'Robert the Bruce', you know in the movie 'Braveheart', but, the real guy, said that the Celts and the Russkie are related. Be interesting , now that we have DNA tests, to see if that would be true....! To ponder......

  • So funny... great mix of russian elements in irish style of dancing and oriental music.... hehehe :)) (i'm russian, i can see it) anyway, it's nice

  • damn..those are some awesome moves..

  • Dear Irish.

i don't want to say anything bad. but this is a Russian dance. not Irish. we Russians have Similar dances with the irish. and folk music.

  • Even though this is part of the Riverdance show, they're not saying that it is an Irish dance. I saw the show last night and even though the main focus was the Irish dancing, they also showcased traditional dances from other parts of the world, notably this one preformed by the Moscow Folk Ballet Company (definitely not an Irish dance troupe) and several Flamenco dances. I think they included them as a commentary on all the new cultures the Irish encountered when they came to the new world

  • yup, thats what it is. they have dances influence by all the new countries the irish traveled to. if you havent seen the show i can see how you would assume they are just labeling this as irish, but when you view the show from start to end, you see what it's really about.

  • this is pure russian dance. i really see nothing irish. like cmon man they're doing the Kazzachok Moves.

  • Riverdance is lots of different styles of dance... EG, Spanish, Russian, Irish

  • let's not forget African American jazz tap. Those guys were flipping off the walls and stuff! Plus, it's hilarious when the two groups start mimicking each other. At least, they did that at the radio city show.

  • You mean that number when the americans and the Irish has like a battle in tapdanceing. I find this very funny too. I think they call it "trading taps"

  • as if st basil's basilica in the back wasn't enough lol

  • Good, but not as good as the original "Riverdance" that starred Michael Flatley and Jean Butler and opened at the Pointe Theater in Dublin,1998.

It seems to have lost the Irish flavor that was captured by the original "Riverdance."

  • they so successfully fused the two cultures into a magnificent piece of multicultural art

  • These guys are unbelievably strong!!!

  • and gals XD ^_^

  • oh my goodness.

this is sooooo unbeleivably hard. I am jsut looking at these moves. it must have taken sooo long to be able to master this incredible style.

  • krasivi

  • These people are amazing! Easily the most physically demanding dance of the whole show. It's no wonder that the best ballet dancers come from Russia; they certainly have unmatched stamina.

  • WOW...

  • 1 ov my favs!!!

  • such great music...i want rhythm!

  • I liked the originals better. From 1995 :) They looked like they were having more fun. Still great though

  • The best thing about Riverdance.

  • Pure entertainment. Brilliant.

  • Slight fuck up at the end but other than that flawless!

  • This was always my favorite part of the show. the music is so light and happy feeling. I was fortunate enough to get to see the show live when I was 16 and the recordings just don't do the Russians any justice.

  • My god! What do the russians have in their water!!??

    Lol, this is amazing:D

  • They are in perfect shapes (hic)

  • For some reason it seems so much manly when man dance...like this I mean.

    :]

  • not nearly as good as the original

  • I agree with you. I don't really like the red and purple. I really liked it how the girls each had their on color (pink, blue, or green) and they would pair up with one another and it would seem very uplifting and happy! They also changed around the dancing style. The first performance was the all-time best! I loved that one so much! It uplifted my soul and always made me happy. :D

  • Oh my god! My Mysticmilotic post from one year ago! Why does YouTube delete my accounts? ;o;

  • Okay Mysticmilotic...first off, the style hasn't really changed, just got more complicated...you're just used to the old show, welcome to the new one. They're still uplifting!

  • I don't mean that I don't like this one, I like it too, but I still enjoyed the part where they were taking the break towards the end, but they took that out. :/

I also preferred their costumes from the older dances when each girl had a different dress instead of them all looking the same. O.o

  • I feel this version is more vibranrt than the original.

  • thanks for the comments, i like 2 hear wat u think!!

  • I remember having a video tape of riverdance when i was about 6 and i used to watch it ALL the time, it was my favourite tape. And i remember the Russian dancing was always my fave part (plus i had a crush on Michael Flatley when i was little).

    Thanks for posting!

  • The weirdest thing is that almost everyone (including myself) seems to like the Russian Dervish more than all of the Irish dancing in Riverdance!

  • You're right.

Go to the original Riverdance finale from 1995 and you'll see the loudest ovation is for the Russians when they come back out.

  • everthin u said, exactly the same wiv me!!!! lol

  • thank you for posting this. such effulgent energy and effusive spirit. i feel like dancing.

  • coolio i love the music and the dancing aligotho

  • APPROVED BY THE ANGEL OF MUSIC

  • thank you so much for posting this, thank you thank you
