You have a beautiful voice, and yes the author was Queen Lili'uokalani. She wrote a number of beautiful songs.

Based on what I've read and from listening to Hawaiian singers, I think you are supposed to sing every vowel separately, ie. A-lo-ha O-e. Of course, everyone sings their own way and rules were made to be broken, just wanted to make sure you knew the rule existed. ;)
