You sir are a wonderful shot. I love how the gun barely seems to recoil in your hands, do you have any videos on your grip/stance? Great work, please keep em coming!
@Ridaz4LifeR6 A T&E gun is a testing and evaluating gun. They are generally provided by manufacturers to members of the press or more well known members of the shooting community to try, give feedback, and most importantly, provide exposure. The people who get the guns can opt to buy them at a discount, or shoot them and then return them when they are done testing. It's a way to market a new gun.
@electricspiral1966 I can help you there. The XD is NOT an American gun. It's just a re-badged copy of the Croatian HS 2000. Springfield simply bought into it and has the Croatians build the same gun with Springfield stamped into it as well as some cosmetic differences. I understand where you're coming from...trust me. I just bought my 5.25 after reading the history of the HS 2000. The Croatians make a great gun!
@MrNeedsdecaf Good morning Sir. Thank you for your response. I am very impressed by the 5.25. In today's economy I have a very hard time buying anything that's not made in USA. This may be an exception. Oh yeah! I really enjoy your reviews. Awesome job!
@electricspiral1966 I agree, and that's why I figured I should explain as I'd have never bought it if it were a case of Springfield going with cheap labor over an American workforce. P.S. This isn't my video, his is Hickok45s video.. :)
I have the exact same model ... and I would have to agree Sir ... "fun, fun, fun ... sweet, sweet, sweet !!!" It's quite the shooter !! Thank you for sharing/posting 45 !! Merry Christmas ...
i have the XD45 Tactical. LOVE IT. chose the XD to upgrade from the Ruger P90 45... This moves the P90 as a back-up. also have the XD9 compact for the boy.
What age do you have to be to compete in pistol competitions. I'm 14 and I shoot .22 competitevily but I would love to shoot some pistol matches for fun. I live on long island in new york. Thank you.
Love Hickok's reviews but my one criticism of the XD and XDM designs is this: iconic US brand name, but a pistol that is built and designed in Croatia.
Now I have no problems with the Croats but this says it all about the US arms industry these days.
All Springfield has done is taken a pistol made by HS Produkt (formerly IM Metals) and slapped their name on it.
@Gravity762 It actually doesn't, they just include a loading assistant. It doesn't provide the same kind of lever mechanical advantage of the Uplula. It just presses down on the previous round and allows you to begin loading the next round.
@hickok45 I have always wondered what your favorite gun is? out of your videos I've seen you seem more comfortable with a 1911, but I wonder with all the guns you have tested which one you prefer as gun.
I love your videos. Lots of information, lots of range time. I saw the review you did on compact pistols, it was also really good. Nice shootin' Tex. Giving thumbs up for sure.
@pac6010 The XD is cosmetically sound, and ergonomic. It is still overly complicated with loaded chamber indicators, and way too many safeties. It just drives the cost up and caters to states that hate the 2nd amendment. All of my pistols are Glocks and M&P's now for this reason.
I recently heard about a product called Fogtech. I think it's made by Moto Solutions. I am NOT endorsing the product, but it does look legitimate, if you wanted to check it out. It's always good when you can see what you're shooting at. I'll be testing it on some goggles sometime soon. I know it works, and well, but I can't vouch for its durability. (I don't know if it will wear off over time.) Just thought I'd share that.
@starwarsman96 If you don't know that, don't bother buying one. BTW, its the length of the barrel. The ammunition of this first release of the 5.25 is 9mm.
@azspringtime That is not a bad question to ask, you will find out real quick that people who think they know things about guns, actually don't. No harm in asking if 5.25 is an ammo type or not. Typically hand guns are made in 3 calibers when they first come out, 9mm, .40 , and .45 . They typically model them after Glocks and the magazine sizes are usually 9mm(17rds), .40 (15), and .45 (13rds)
@azspringtime As for smaller guns their ammo sizes are like .22, .25, .32, .380, etc. They are usually single stack magazines (meaning one after another stacked on top). The bigger modern calibers usually have double stack magazines which are stacked adjacent to each other. Also many of the ammo types have all kinds of different names. Like ACP, Kurts, Luger, S&W, Makarov, etc. Don't worry about that, worry about the size and diameter of ammo like 9mm 9x19 or 9mm 9x18, etc.
Just purchased this bad boy, and I love it. Just wanted to give you a heads up about ammo. It will not eat Tula steel case ammo, stove pipe, and more importantly, the ammo doesnt seat well in the magazine causing the feeding problem. Do you know how heavy the trigger pull is?
I am getting this baby tomorrow! But, in .45 caliber. I already have the 9mm 4.5 and I love it. Smooth recoil, good iron sights (no high point yet). I'm assuming the .45 XDm will inspire the same passion.
Good video, excellent firearm. :)
By the way, what is the camera that you are using?
I'm in the market for my first gun and hopefully get into some beginner shooting in my area. As a first gun, would you recomend this? Or should I stick with a standard XDM? Or should I go with my third option that I'm interested in; the M&P 9mm?
@orion2ktc If you want a gun for carry the standard or compact XDM or M&P's will be better options, the long barrel on the 5.25 as opposed to the 4.5 or 3.8 will make it more difficult to conceal. As for a target pistol pick anything you want, Glock, M&P, XDM. all top quality
Hickock or Any of you other experienced folks recommend anything?? I kinda looking for either a .40 or .45 in either glock or probably Springfield xd?? Maybe a 1911?? Seems like you really like the Xd hickock even though you ve been a glock man??
Cool vids hickok45.. Been addicted and watching your vids all weekend long. I m looking into buying a handgun soon (bought an s&w sigma 9mm as my first gun a few years ago but didn't end up using it much bc I moved away from home for school).. I don't have much experience with guns at all but have Been getting into them bc a lot of my friends are too.. I live out in the country a few miles outside the city limits in CA so I can shoot in my backyard.. Hickock or Any of you other experienced folk
On the second day of my gun course I shot the 5.25 and it was amazing! Granted, I'm a complete novice and this gun made the experience of learning incredibly enriching. Its like a new driver having the opportunity to drive a Porsche.
Rob certainly put a lot of attention into the ergonomics and performance. Although I ended up buying the XDM 9mm 3.8 Compact as my CC, I'll most definitely get the 5.25 for range/target shooting (Fun).
i just got the xdm 9mm 5.25 In NJ we can only have a 15 round clip, My guy had it..How lucky am I. This is my first gun, I would love to get your advice. By the way what kind of quick loader was being used in the video, the one with the set in nothing like it.....
I put this downrange around 100 rounds at my local firing range, and since it was a range gun somethings were blah, the sights were tampered with and shot about 2inches up at about 15 yards. And on one round (i dont know if it was the range ammo, cheap stuff :/ ) it clicked, no bang. i picked up the round after ejecting it, and there was a solid indentation on the primer, so bad ammo im assuming. but this gun impressed me besides the above statemnt i mentioned. Good gun :).
Just picked up the XDM 5.25 this weekend at the Dallas gun show and shot it on Sunday at reactionary steel. I'm partial to Glocks (fired 2500 rounds out of my G22 over 4 weekends without any issue) but was looking for a competition gun. I looked at S&W and Glock 34 but the Sprinfield just had everything I wanted. A big difference for me in comparison with the Glock is the trigger pull. I find the XDM 5.25 trigger a lot smoother and it has a really crisp break in comparison to others.
i am going to get a handgun, my 1st handgun ever. So i was wondering and hoping to get your opinion on what I should get.. Really leaning towards a .40 cal handgun, so please if you will, give your opinions. Thanks
You shouldn't use paper towels on your glasses. They have wood fibers which will scratch the lenses. You should stick to cotton instead. Your shirt would have been a better choice.
Well this video made up my mind. while i know it really comes down to the shooter i couldn't help but notice you were doing an amazing job with it in your hands.
i sold my glock gen 4 for this bad boy! i just bought a XDm .40 sw in OD green and stainless steel. It looks bad ass!!! also it has better fit in your hand than my glock did. plus it looks alot better. the glock may still be more reliable idk. ive only shot 50 rounds so far but XDm all the way over glock
Me and many other people I'm guessing want to see a chapter 2, 3, 4, 5... video with this gun. A comparison with a 34 would be a excellent bonus as well.
@TheDubDoubt Yes, I know it is to lighten the pistol and it allows the slide to be lighter. The lighter slide is better for low power ammo such as that used in competition. The lighter slide increases reliability with the low power 9mm ammo during cycling. Result is low recoil ammo with assurance of feeding the next round. Faster follow up shots. I am just not a fan of these slide cut outs. It seems to be a good gun for what it was designed -competition matches.
they say that you only shoot at 50% of the level you shot at on the best day at the range when your in combat. in that case, hickok45 is gunna be just fine if crap goes down.
Hickock ive been watching your videos for a few years and have done some talking with you about guns. I would just like to say thanks for uploading these as it helps me with decision making and who doesnt love guns, besides the democrats *joking*. Anyways I'm happy that this youtube thing is working out for you, take care.
It seem to take around a half a second for the bullet to hit the targets with the longest distance. I'm surprised. What you are doing looks like so much fun!! great video.
Speaking of a longer sight radius.. and easier.shooting.. Just wondering, why do you prefer the Glock 19 over the model 17? I mean, and if I'm not mistaken, I have never seen you shooting a 17 in your videos. (but I'm pretty sure you have some trigger time on them ; )
@hickok45 so accuracy isnt any better in the 17 vs the 19? ive been debating geting the xdm9 3.8 or going for the 4.5 ...which is basically a 19/17... i have been stuck.
LOL @10:52 I think it's a Prius trying to neutral drop.

When the SHTF I hope to be in Tennessee near Hickok's place...

You shouldn't use paper towels on your glasses. They have wood fibers which will scratch the lenses. You should stick to cotton instead. Your shirt would have been a better choice.

@hickok45 I'd like to see in Top Shot.

i sold my glock gen 4 for this bad boy! i just bought a XDm .40 sw in OD green and stainless steel.

While I am not a fan of slide cut outs, excellent review.
frankgon4 7 months ago
@frankgon4 it allows the 5.25 to weigh the same as the 4.5
TheDubDoubt 7 months ago
@TheDubDoubt Yes, I know it is to lighten the pistol and it allows the slide to be lighter. The lighter slide is better for low power ammo such as that used in competition. The lighter slide increases reliability with the low power 9mm ammo during cycling. Result is low recoil ammo with assurance of feeding the next round. Faster follow up shots. I am just not a fan of these slide cut outs. It seems to be a good gun for what it was designed -competition matches.
frankgon4 7 months ago
they say that you only shoot at 50% of the level you shot at on the best day at the range when your in combat. in that case, hickok45 is gunna be just fine if crap goes down.

(but I'm pretty sure you have some trigger time on them ; )
delta66able 7 months ago
@delta66able, There's just not enough difference in length to make a difference to me, and the G19 is a much more convenient package.

@hickok45 so accuracy isnt any better in the 17 vs the 19? ive been debating geting the xdm9 3.8 or going for the 4.5 ...which is basically a 19/17... i have been stuck.
TRUTHandANSWERS 6 months ago
@hickok45 seems like you shoot this longer barrel a lot better????? more accurate?
