  • Brenda Lee has always been a great singer, but not for this song. The song was written and originally performed by Edith Piaf. Having said that...the definitive version is by a Norwegian singer, Sissel. Her performance makes others pale in comparison. You can find Sissel on YouTube.

  • I love Patti Labelle's cover of this..

  • Engelbert also does a great cover of this & tells the heartbreaking story behind the song: French singer, Edith Piaf had a love affair with a famous boxer, Marcel Cerdan...a Middleweight Champion. To surprise her, he was on his way to New York to see Edith perform in concert. Sadly, The plane he was flying in crashed & Marcel was killed along with everyone aboard. After a period of time, she was asked by the press if she could express her feelings about her loss ...this song was her answer.

  • My dearest sweet friend Pequinito. This is such a lovely video with that romantic touch of Pequinita's voice. It is so good to learn more about Brenda Lee, whose hit "Rocking around the Christmas tree" I was honored to cover. When I played this video my mom started singing along. You have no idea how much she likes this song. Thanks once more for all the beautiful music you share with us. Te quiero mucho =)

  • Thank you for such a warm comment, Romina. Pequinita especially smiled to read that your mom likes this lovely song, originally sung in French by Edith Piaf. We send our love to your dear mom. Yes, Brenda Lee is one of the all-time greats, and you certainly did her song justice. TQM! :)
