  • My 04 does that, never could figure out what it was, sounded like a turbo whistle LOL, one mechanic told me he thought it could have been a small leak in the manifold that would go away when it got warm, just dont want it wo be something that I have to throw a pile of money at

  • My 04' 5.4 did it whenever it was below about 10. I live in Northern VT, and sometimes maybe once a year it will dip down to about -45 at night, it will start that cold, but its ear deafening the sound.

  • I have an 08 with the 4.6 It whistles a little bit when its cold, but not that loud. Lasts about 2 min roughly

  • My 04 does that when it gets below zero out as well. Most vehicles make strange noises when it's that cold though, so I've never looked into it or thought it to be a problem.

  • haha i think thats ice on your serpentine belt. Thats what happen with my truck

  • Holy crap thats LOUD! My 02 Sierra knocks a little if i gas on it before it's warmed up, but honestly ive never heard a truck whistle before.

  • @02LM7 Yeah it is, alternator bearings and cold, didn't get along. It hasn't done it since 2009. Past couple winters have been fine, even on the -17 day we had in January 2011.

  • Yea I have the same truck and from I've been told it's air passing over the alternator that makes the whistle

  • i got a 99 and its never done that before and i think powertrain wise anyway they are the same

  • @sstroh08 There are alot of engine differences between the 2v 5.4L and 3v 5.4L, '04+ 3v 5.4Ls have been the majority of whistle reports due to tensioner pullies.

  • @DarrenWS6 ive worked on both the only major difference is the heads obviously, the pcm is a little different and they have an electric rheostat throttle controls instead of the mechanical cable ones theres a few other very minor differences but i cant remember anymore of em lol, the belt and pullys are the same on these trucks, must have just been a bad set of bearings or something in 2004 idk

  • same thing happend on my old car (sonce deceased) iot was the tensioner or idler pully bearing. simple change, quik and easy

  • I don't know if you still have this problem? I had the exact same thing as you (check my video) It was my alternator which needed to be changed and the whistle sound never came back. I live in Canada and get around -30 at some points in the winter. It was embarrassing starting it up!!

  • @bonesofsteel Thats cool. Funny thing is after taking this video it never did it again. Past two winters has been fine. it must have been ice in a pulley somewhere.

  • Awwww shit! I should have turned my speakers down a little. Nearly broke all the damn glass In my house! lol...

  • @scotts01Z71 lol yeah its loud lol

  • My Chev sure doesnt whistle it only gets whistles when im going down the street:)

Just joking bro you got a nice truck :)

  • @ThugSniperx lol. I found out ice forms in a pulley, made a ear piercing sound.

  • oh wow man lol just bring a hair dryer along and a dc conveter so next time you can melt that crap lol jk, im sure they make a pulley that will fix that right?

  • @ThugSniperx Cause I didn't have a block heater. It gets cold in winter here. Cause I splashed through a slush spot before I parked. Never gonna happen again since I have a paved driveway now.

  • my 06 has a wistle when its cold and under load like driving down the highway. its at around 2500-3500 RPM. and it does it at idol too when its cold out. ive been to multiple dealerships and they all say its in the intake; one of the oxygen sensors, or the EGR valve

  • @amintha91 Some people on F150online have reported it to be a cold belt, a little ice causing a whistle, some with alot of demand from their battery needed to replace the alternator. In my case I think it was ice on the belt because I haven't heard it this winter.

  • I had the same exact noise. I changed the tensioner pulley and problem solved. With that said yours may be the idler pulley or the tensioner puller. Either way very easy to check.

  • dude i get the same wistle only when excelerateing when the temp is below 30 degrees and only when the engine is cold. and the wistle is much quicker then urs. u have any clue what causes it?

  • hmm, alternator or a pulley i'll guess.

  • My Chev sure doesnt whistle it only gets whistles when im going down the street:)

Just joking bro you got a nice truck :)

  • Your typical ford power steering sound at first.

But my brother's 06' had the loud howling and they said it was the alternator. :-O

  • sounds like a big foot call to me! lol

  • yes, mine does it all the time. i asked what the fuck it was, they thought it was something with the engine.

  • that is weird but nice truck, how much was it?

  • Yeah, its a cold pully, below zero temps and no block heater its typical. a hair under $17k.

  • LOUD!

    but nice!!

  • watching this vid made my eyes water..

  • Yeah? made me wanna break my speakers hahah. It only made that sound in the cold. Doesn't do it anymore.

  • Not even in the cold?

  • Only in single digit temperatures. 10+ it never does.

  • Oh ok, Well it looks good!

  • thank you

  • Hey, I was just wondering where you got your head light caps?

  • They're not caps, their painted to look Harley Davidson F150 style.

  • It's your rear alternator bearing. I had the exact same thing on my 04 F150. It only did it when it was really cold. I was worried my neighbors would yell at me because it was so loud!!! NEW ALTERNATOR! :)

  • Strange, never heard that before.

  • I think its just moisture on your belt from the cold

  • check your pulleys

  • They appear to be fine.

  • does it stop after it warms up?

  • yes it does, and it only does it in single digit temperatures. could be

  • yeah i bet that is what it is

  • its b/c its a ford...haha jk, but it kinda sounds like a belt squeekin only really high pitched, dunno, never heard that before in my life.

  • lol, yeah idk what it was. MY 2500HD did it very faintly for the same amount of time. Both only in single digit weather.

  • well im up here in ny, mine doesnt wistle like the one in the video. well it does just not as loud. i have no clue what it does. but it only does it when its like 0 outside. it dosnt last long. i have a k&n fipk on mine so i dont know if its the filter

  • oh well maybe not. Mine does the same as heard here, whistles faint at the start, then screeches and dies out not to be heard again.

  • mine allways wistles..

  • really. I noticed around my air filter tray there was some loose foam sealing around it. I'm thinking thats one of the causes because in those really cold mornings when it starts its at 1300rpm.

  • my 2000 f150 and my parents 2001 navigator does the same, only when it's real cold out, don't think it's a problem

  • me either, it hasn't done it since it was in the single digit temps. If there was a metal grinding it would do it at all start ups.

  • have your windows fallen into the frame yet? that'll be a nice $4500 once they all go

  • no mine have never failed. I doubt they will.

  • that aint good, our 07 with the 5.4 don't do that, better go get it looked at before something really fucks up.

  • that doesn't sound so good... we had a 98 buick park ave that did that in cold weather like this with a 115k miles on it and it turned out that the lower pulley was broken and our clutch was fried

  • does your truck knock at all when its cold becuase mine does

  • no it never knocks. It just whistles like this.

  • i have the same exact truck mine does the same thing at certain RPM's its ur air filter.. pull it out and put it back in and it will generally stop

  • I was thinking maybe it was like the heater motor or somthing....just a thought

  • Mine does it too, but not that loud. Actually was louder when I first bought the truck in December. I've pretty much just resigned to live with it, it only does it for a minute or two and then it's gone. Doesn't seem to cause any other issues, so I'm just gonna see what happens.

  • oh yeah? Mine hasn't done it lately, it only does it below zero or in the single digits, so its alright with me.

  • just throwin it out there but is your heat cranked? My old 89 kinda sounded like that with the heater cranked? probly not but maybe just an Idea...

  • yes, I always lea ve the head on Defrost/Overhead maxed out because I run it for 5 minutes before I drive. Dont like driving a cold truck, or riding in a cold interior.

  • 2006 F150 in cold Canada does it intermittently but not quite as loud.

  • Anything below 10* and my PS pump whines like a SOB for a few seconds after sitting in brutal temps.

Darren, my 5.4 F150 doesn't whistle like that, are trucks can't stand stupid cold temps like that. Not sure about Dodges or Chevys

  • nice truck, ya i have the same thing on my 2000 f150, and on my parents navigator

  • junk ford

  • like your vehicle acts no differently in below zero after being parked all night.

  • It does, the Escalade just started right up, and burbled along warming up

  • Well good for you. I'm on a mountain with an elevation at 2130ft, and with 71k miles.

  • Our Toyota Sequoia had 75k, and it never did that, or the Lexus, but the 4Runner hasn't been below 0.

  • good for you. My '02 Trans Am, '01 F150, and '02 Explorer didn't do it either but I never let them sit longer than a day when it was below zero.

  • I see, and wow, then why is it doing that?!, did you check with the dealer?, was it a recall?, or does it just not like the cold?, or it could be your belt pulleys seizing up in the cold?

  • Its just too cold I think, no recalls on my truck, nothings wrong with it, runs great as it always does, just doesn't like the very cold start ups, look at the top and someone mentioned to me about the heater being on

  • my truck hates cold whether to

my power seats suck my cd ejector sucks ass to

and my tranny takes a while but just start it everyday and let it warm up

    then it works just fine

its not ford everything hates the cold

  • fords shit ! u shoulda stuck with ur 2500 dumb ass

  • Fuck you. Nothing is wrong with my truck, its called cold belts dumb fuck, I have to deal with below zero temperatures in mid winter, so fuck off. I didn't need a 3/4 truck nor did I want a Chevrolet.

  • ight ight buddy no need to spaz!! my chevy starts every mornign in below zero weather TOO and guess wut it dont wistle !!! so u fuckk off , im just sayin iv had fords and just had bad luck maybe there were lemons , so sorry if i affended u im just a chevy guy , i apolagize

  • chevys axels are bad and they only got independent suspenstion in the front

  • That might be your Alternator belt.

    hows life bro?
