A bad drummer is one with shit technique, creativity, timing, and attitude. Don't see any of that here.. except maybe the creativity.. and timing a bit..
Metal drummers are very rarely good solo drummers, not even the best metal drummers,Jaska plays very well in COB,great fills and he plays for the song not to boost his ego
@XxAardvark456xX Dawg, I may not know who the crap you are, and what you look like, and how old you are, but you are absolutely right. I hope we come across each other on the internets again. I bid you farewell stranger.

I think this isn't a good drummer. In the beginning he slows down like crazy.. Everyone can here that. And I just don't like his playin'.. Not spectacular.
dude it's just my opinion. You can leave comments to say you like it or not. I don't. What's the big deal? You don't have to call me an idiot for that. Ever heard of Mario Duplantier? Or Chris Adler? Thomas Haake? Those are the real talented metal drummers. (And that's my opinion too)
@TheWezel1995 Adler's overrated for what he is, which is a slightly quicker Jason Bittner. I don't really see how you can compare 4 drummers from 4 completely different styles of metal.
@cobarethebest i'm personally a fan of jaska, more than children of bodom, (the way they have developed on the last record) and he do got style and groove, but alot of metal drummers doo, if you ask me, it's different kind of groove, but still a groove, tbh the only professional drummer i'm trying hard to find the groove is Terry Bozzio, i mean i listen to alot of prog, don't allways understand everything but i allways find the groove, except for bozzio...

Some guys on the internetz need to learn that even if there are better players in the business, that doesn't make one bad. A drummer can be pretty damn good without being the best in the world.
@TMSapphiroN Thank you for your comment...I do have my own opinions about "upper level" drummers (and those with lesser skills) - but (1) every drummer (regardless of skill) can make contributions, (2) not all drummers have a desire to be the best (they simply enjoy drumming), and (3) fans of certain bands don't care that the (respective) drummers are phenomenal or not (e.g., I feel that Mick Fleetwood is solid but not phenomenal - but Fleetwood Mac fans go to see/hear the band as a unit)...
@TMSapphiroN (Addendum to my 1st comment/reply) Also, some music genres (e.g., country western music vs. prog rock, jazz, or jazz fusion) and songs (simple drumming on Joe Jackson's "Stepping Out") may not call for extra-intricate drumming...lastly, " less may be more" on certain songs/drum grooves - "silence"/"absence" may add more "dimension" per se than filling up a song/groove with "fancy drumming"...I applaud phenomenal drumming skills - but drumming is also about enjoying music/songs...
@wreckage06 ok man, that's cool :)..well, it really shows technical ability but he seems to change rhythms so weirdly, that it looks like he's running out of ideas :S....i mean, it has good moments but the entire thing is kind of boring, because of lack of consistency.........but what the hell!!, i'm just an amateur drummer, he must know what hes doing X)
@wreckage06 , the doctor dropped you when you were born, didn't he?...can you show me where did i write about being fast?...yeah, i thought so.....for the last time!, i[m not saying hes a bad drummer, i really think hes great... i'm just saying this specific show was boooring compare to what he's capable of...like the drum solo in chaos ridden years
Joey is a great drummer just not as uber brilliant as people think. I hardly think any pro drummer's gonna be crap. This performance from Jaska is pretty good IMO even though I hate jazz, a great drummer is one who is versatile and diverse as well as fast.
I'm not a drummer, but I know what drumming is in metal and then in music. This guy seems to be more of a musical drummer than straight up metal, like Kai Hahto - but what is difficult in their playing isn't the speed but the timing. I think this is jazz drumming right? I know Hahto is a jazz drummer and I've heard shit similar from him.
@sedativeman Yes this is jazz, you've got a really good outlook for a non-drummer. This is definitely not in 4/4 I'm not sure what timing it's in really. Jaska and Kai are apparently best friends, they made a drum piece together that's very solid and jazzy. Too bad Jaska's metal drumming is average.
Hey idiots. A drum performance is not meant to be blast beats and fast double bass the whole time. It's alot of rudiments and technique, usually in a weird time signature. It's showing skill, not speed. You can be the fastest drummer in the world but it doesn't matter if you don't know your rudiments. His solo was pretty good, especially since he's a metal drummer, and not a clinician, or studio musician.
@toymacdylan that happens when an incompetent person leaves a comment... so sorry mate, his skills are more than crap, try to redo and I bet you'll be fucking disappointed in yourself while struggling with it
Joey isen't overrated, people are saying slipknot sucks and that kind off stuff . . .
but they are popular for a raison, see a drum solo of joey, he's talented and probably best drummer there is, anyway jaska and children of bodom owns too

CoB plays melodic death metal. It's not like death metal from behemoth or cannibal corpse. It's melodic.Behemoth or cannibal corpse have both great musicians but it's kind of less technical its just fast.
Good point but, i mean in death metal you can play actualy a whole song with blastbeats and i don't say that's easy but it's always the same. Cob has a lot of variation in the drums.

@Blasttphemous AMEEEEEEEEEEEEEN bro... you got the point of the whole thing... in this vid Jaska is playing a lot of progressive and almost nothing related to death, showing that he's a really versatile drummer... (ikea, finnish? lmfaooo)
@hugslyh fucking serious? jaska is an amazing drummer, i'd like to see you do this. no he isn't the best fucking drummer in the world but he sure as hell is great.
Because he really is overrated and pretty much sloppy live.
...and if there's one thing these nolife youtubers can't stand it's seeing someone being appreciated even if he doesn't have much talent, in some way it's jealousy i think.
haha, do hink left handed drummers look to the right at the floor, not the left?
i like to close my eyes when i practice, not performing though, and when i play to some realy good songs, like Epic by Faith No More. Awesome song, so much feel
true, he is really good, but not as good as everyone makes him out to be... and the only reason he has the record for fastest double bass is because he had guiness book of world records time him for a minute. there are many guys who are way faster, they just never had anyone time them for a minute strait.
The best thing is that he plays jazz patterns. He kicks ass in metal and now prooves that he is good in any kind of music, cuz jazz is most difficult one.
i disagree with that, not with jaska being a good drummer but with the fact that jazz is the hardest. latin is way more complicated than jazz if you havent tried it yet :)
Am i the only one that notices a pattern of him attempting to be Thomas Haake?.. i mean the pony tail, not shaving how he did before, trying to play like Thomas... not saying he's bad but he's trying to be thomas and nnnnot succeeding xD
Hmm, a metal drummer having hair and not wanting it to be in his face playing something other than 4/4 patterns , yeah total Haake rip off. You're a hack
A bad drummer is one with shit technique, creativity, timing, and attitude. Don't see any of that here.. except maybe the creativity.. and timing a bit..

i like this cause he knows how to groove. and seems pretty open minded to me.
pretty good, it really is sth else compared to when he plays with bodom..
i think he's a really good drummer.

joey is so much overrated.
many peole say he is the best because of his fast doublebass- drumming.
I saw him at Nova Roch 2009 and sometimes he was out of the rythm. to be fast doesnt mean to be good

netterhaufen.
cant agree more, well said
squezer 2 years ago
true, he is really good, but not as good as everyone makes him out to be... and the only reason he has the record for fastest double bass is because he had guiness book of world records time him for a minute. there are many guys who are way faster, they just never had anyone time them for a minute strait.

nrb3987 2 years ago
how does he play tha part at 2:33 ??
Schnabeltier7I4 2 years ago
They're just doubles on the snare over doubles on the toms, alternating between the toms and snare. He just does it really fast.

Is this him improvising? Or is it from a Cob song? And plus why do the 2 high toms look the same size?
HenryTholomewPlague 2 years ago
This one is improvising, the other one is a song.
WarHeartInme 2 years ago
He is improvising mate. He's testing the cymbals.

They're both 10", I heard Jaska thought 8" tom is too small for him to hit it.

The best thing is that he plays jazz patterns. He kicks ass in metal and now prooves that he is good in any kind of music, cuz jazz is most difficult one.
Hail Jaska!
LuzzSoloGuitar22 2 years ago 5
:// cant agree.
ShaxDr87 2 years ago
i disagree with that, not with jaska being a good drummer but with the fact that jazz is the hardest. latin is way more complicated than jazz if you havent tried it yet :)
killerkumag90 2 years ago
First of all I'm a guitarist :P
The second thing is that latin music is, more or less, some kind of jazz at all :P
LuzzSoloGuitar22 2 years ago
well you wouldnt know not until you play jazz and latin on the drumset sir, it s a whole different thing :P
killerkumag90 2 years ago
ummm
i kind of agree and both disagree...
well in terms of diffculty yes latin is tech harder...
but playing jazz requires a groove and flow of the playing that you get over time playing that i at least consider harder then tech...

jaska is absolutely my favourite drummer of all drummers!!
Zeeeroou 2 years ago 2
Am i the only one that notices a pattern of him attempting to be Thomas Haake?.. i mean the pony tail, not shaving how he did before, trying to play like Thomas... not saying he's bad but he's trying to be thomas and nnnnot succeeding xD
wtpbikes 2 years ago
Hmm, a metal drummer having hair and not wanting it to be in his face playing something other than 4/4 patterns , yeah total Haake rip off. You're a hack
