  • Andreas Scholl is Good.

But i think the best rendition of this piece is when the orchestra would have accompanied Klaus Nomi.

  • me gusta!!

  • splendida

  • ._.

  • I thought this was a bass part >:|

  • Jizz in my pants.

  • orchestra is incredible!

    that something is wrong

may be it is tu light.....

  • I love him - what a personality!

  • Great dramatic piece of music by Purcell to listen to in Sydney's cold snap.

  • i was lucky to be present at this concert. If i'm not mistaken it was one of the first times he sang it live. It was a moment i will never forget. A fantastic concert. Bravo et Merci Andreas. You rule.

  • @Guichotpresident...purcell wrote this song for a bass...so scholl singing it as a countertenor is a variety too...Nomi popularized this song as countertenor(accordingly some countertenors have performed this piece in homage to him, i don't know if this is the case for scholl)...imho i liked Nomi's rendition better

  • @stalag28 Purcell himself sang both baritone and countertenor; he would have approved. Love the Nomi but Scholl is after something much different; Nomi is a complete package and Scholl is a singer of Baroque music. They both rock.

  • None interprets this song with such power and skill as the evergreat Andreas Scholl, you can just feel the cold invading you...

  • OMG each time! Each damn time I hear any rendition of the Cold Song I get goosebumps and tears just sort of start running down my cheeks as if it was the most normal thing in the world!! :(

  • I prefer Nomi version.. but.. not Bad..

  • The musicians are absolutely perfect: thank you very much indeed !

  • Not bad, but Nomi is simply the best singer of "cold song" because his voice is perfect !

  • @57pascalou You must be joking.

  • This actually gives me shiver...

  • It' s so late, but I cannot stop watching this and sending it to people. His voice makes me think there is a reason to get up on a cold Winter morning

  • I'm going to say something ABSOLUTELY arguable, but HEY! someone should make a metal cover of this song!

(Andreas Scholl is AMAZING, by the way)

  • Nomi's perfprmance was much better imo

  • @GoodChineezeCheeze i completely disagree, nomi doesn't even come close to the awesome performance of Scholl, and the way Nomi sings it is just not baroque, it's variety...

  • Scholl may be more professional, but if you listen to the Munich performance by Nomi that he did a few months before he died, it's the sort of thing that just hits you like a ton of bricks (to me anyway).

I do find it annoying when people dismiss Klaus Nomi out-of-hand as "variety" though because he wasn't just fooling around for laughs, whatever your opinion of his music is. Even if you don't like him, it's not just a joke.

  • @telegramsam dont make me say what I didn't say, I didn't say that he was fooling around, or that his music was inferior, but he just doesn't have the vocal technique that scholl does, he lacks the power, the dynamic. Sure, a performance before his death is much more heart-wrenching, but I think scholl can just blow Nomi out of the water technically

  • @Guichotpresident Well I still prefer Nomi on the whole. Scholl is a singer primarily anyway and Nomi was very much the performance artist in addition, so they are quite different anyway.

  • @telegramsam exactly! I'd like to see Mr. Scholl wearing wierd suits and dancing on a stage :p

  • @GoodChineezeCheeze Another joker.

  • fantastic!

  • goosebumps on the heart - wow

  • I'd get that seen too if I were you.

  • OMG thats an amazing performance!!!

  • Great arrangement of this piece. The music gave me the chilles (no pun intended)

  • I saw him in Barbican recently with Philippe Jaroussky, there is no one like Andreas! I have heard this aria by various baritones but Andreas took it to a different level! Genius!

  • I saw him in Brussels last night , amazing performance.

  • lindo

  • amazing!!

  • Fantastic!

  • Fantastic!

  • The Baroque genius that was Henry Purcell meets the sublime brilliance of one of

his greatest contemporary interpreters, Andreas Scholl. A masterpiece by any

standard!! Thank you LoRau for posting and to arunah11 for sharing!

  • Splendide. Superbe enregistrement.
