i was lucky to be present at this concert. If i'm not mistaken it was one of the first times he sang it live. It was a moment i will never forget. A fantastic concert. Bravo et Merci Andreas. You rule.
@Guichotpresident...purcell wrote this song for a bass...so scholl singing it as a countertenor is a variety too...Nomi popularized this song as countertenor(accordingly some countertenors have performed this piece in homage to him, i don't know if this is the case for scholl)...imho i liked Nomi's rendition better
@stalag28 Purcell himself sang both baritone and countertenor; he would have approved. Love the Nomi but Scholl is after something much different; Nomi is a complete package and Scholl is a singer of Baroque music. They both rock.
OMG each time! Each damn time I hear any rendition of the Cold Song I get goosebumps and tears just sort of start running down my cheeks as if it was the most normal thing in the world!! :(
It' s so late, but I cannot stop watching this and sending it to people. His voice makes me think there is a reason to get up on a cold Winter morning
@GoodChineezeCheeze i completely disagree, nomi doesn't even come close to the awesome performance of Scholl, and the way Nomi sings it is just not baroque, it's variety...
Scholl may be more professional, but if you listen to the Munich performance by Nomi that he did a few months before he died, it's the sort of thing that just hits you like a ton of bricks (to me anyway).
I do find it annoying when people dismiss Klaus Nomi out-of-hand as "variety" though because he wasn't just fooling around for laughs, whatever your opinion of his music is. Even if you don't like him, it's not just a joke.
@telegramsam dont make me say what I didn't say, I didn't say that he was fooling around, or that his music was inferior, but he just doesn't have the vocal technique that scholl does, he lacks the power, the dynamic. Sure, a performance before his death is much more heart-wrenching, but I think scholl can just blow Nomi out of the water technically
@Guichotpresident Well I still prefer Nomi on the whole. Scholl is a singer primarily anyway and Nomi was very much the performance artist in addition, so they are quite different anyway.
I saw him in Barbican recently with Philippe Jaroussky, there is no one like Andreas! I have heard this aria by various baritones but Andreas took it to a different level! Genius!
Superbe enregistrement.
Lorau. Do you have the rest of the concert? If you do please add it. I tried to watch the concert on Live web but it was to slow in buffering. Thanks a lot Loaru. U really made me happy a lot.

Andreas Scholl is Good.
But i think the best rendition of this piece is when the orchestra would have accompanied Klaus Nomi.

wow, der Gesang war unbeschreiblich und zum ersten mal sind mir die schiefen Töne aufgefallen bei den Geigen. Da friert man selber mit. brilliant.

I'm going to say something ABSOLUTELY arguable, but HEY! someone should make a metal cover of this song!

his greatest contemporary interpreters, Andreas Scholl. A masterpiece by any
