I have had exactly the same experience toward the end of college and in grad school before these meds were widely used. I was diagnosed soon afterwards and given Adderall. At first it was great but now I feel like I hyperfocus on unimportant matters, lose track of time, etc. Do you ever feel that way? Have you ever tried Vyvanse? Thanks.
Adderall is not methamphetamine.Desoxyn is methamphetamine. Adderall is a mix of Dextroamphetamine and Levoamphetamine. Dextroamphetamine works with dopamine more while Levoamphetamine on the other hand works more with norepinephrine.
Dexedrine is 100% more effective, no real side effeccts to speak of... Adderall is good, but really dirty feeling... I am 26 (27 next month) married and have anxiety disorders comorbid w/ADHD... but anyway Dexedrine 10mg tablets saved my ass, I can be kinda normal between that and xanax for panic attacks (unrelated). If you havn't tried it my wife and I both swear by Dex. I take 60mg / Day and am 155lb my wife is 100lb and 5'4" she takes 10mg Tid 3x day... seriously night and day, its day!
I'm starting to think I have ADD. I just thought I was lazy, and a creative day dreamer. But last semester I somehow managed to control my 'laziness' and I finally pulled off a decent set of grades. I took that as evidence of 'maturing'. No, this semester, I'm completely screwed. I have 5 research papers to write. I can't get started despite the chance of failing. I'm just feeling incredibly stuck and I'm planning to get checked :\ But even if I am diagnosed my college years are almost done.
Well i went to the doctor and now im on adderal and i think it's working. I can ignore things that distract me much easier. And it seems to elevate my mood.

I hated the fact that I depended on Adderall to ace my classes so I decided to go off it. I've been off it for like 6 months and I have my ups and downs. Some days my ADD's worse than ever and sometimes its quite mellow to the point I can actually focus and study. I have to say that in comparison to studying with Adderall, when I read I can recall what i've read in detail soon after.
In the end, it's like a really intense love/hate relationship with it...best of luck! :)
I can complete relate to your situation. Im currently completing my bachelor's in biology and have been on Adderall for a couple of years. I went through high school sans medication and even graduated from honor roll. As I entered college and classes got tougher I realized I didn't know how to study so I was prescribed Adderall and it worked like a wonder except I lost a lot of weight (probably 4 dress sizes) and looked famished.
Well i just saw the doctor and she's going to prescribe something tomorrow so yay! Finally I'll be medicated for add and for the first time i hope i can be "normal". lol Thank you so much for your video it really inspired me to get the help i need.

yeah i used to use aderol, i would be dehydrated and underweitght. now i use marijuana (without a card) and i eat more, think more, and focus more (in the right amount)

I know where you're coming from. This is coming from a guy who is fully aware he needs to be writing a paper right now but the moment I start to then I end up doing something random (such as surf YouTube) I've been told I've had ADD/ADHD all my life but I always denied being medicated. Now college is here, I'm working full-time, doing school full-time and have no way of being able to focus on either one. I will be unemployed in about a month because I can't stay on task. In my case I compare my addiction to adderall to a line from the late poet Jim Carroll in reference to his heroin addiction "It starts like a kiss...and ends like a curse." At first, Adderall gave me the confidence,euphoria and ability to get a 780 on my verbal section of the GRE and 800 on the quantitative w\a 6\6 on the writing. I also managed to score in the 99th percentile on my Miller Analogies test. Now I'm on disability for depression from the long term use of adderall.
What alternate options do I have for improving attention (and maybe memory too)? If meditation,what kind of meditation? Or some other meds. or some other alternative like almond if they enhance memory? do they? or some other herbal treatments?Like

Do 50mg(arbitrary value) extended release and 50mg immediate release are equally harmful (either amphetamine or methylphenidate)? With immediate release we will fell more concentrated but for a short time and with time-release we feel comparatively less concentrated but for long time,right or wrong? I mean the (concentration*time) factor remains constant for a particular quantity of drug whether time-release or immediate release?

My 22 yr old son dies from Ritalin. He was prescribed and made straight As but in 2008 he started abusing this highly addictive drug. Read the new FDA warning before you mess with amphetamines. Sean asked me why God gave him this curse and why did I ever give him this drug. I told him the experts told us it would help him. I try to honor my son by putting this information out. The NIDA has done a study and now the drug Ritalin is shown to damage the frontal lobe of your brain.

I reared up a little at the end. I just started taking Adderall yesterday, I will be 20 in 2 weeks. I flunked my way through school graduating because my teachers liked my polite personality. Even though I always cut class because trying to sit through anyone talking for more than 10 minutes was impossible and frustrating. You did a great job conveying your story and pointing out a major issue us '80 (or ADD) babies are faced with. ADD has been around for years & many famous/influential people owe their success to it..but this was before there was a pill for everything.

I know some people that have the worst cases of add and never have seen this shit in my life. I know 30 year olds that are on the highest precriptions of adderall and do not act like this. I take 5 classes have to read over 300 pages a week, followed by 3 papers with a 300 word minimun, and on top of that I still have to do discussion based assessments with my 5 weekly tests.

i know how you feel, im in senior year of illinois engineering. I was the same exact way when i got to college, went to some doctors, few follow ups, never went back sometimes for a few months from forgetting or not caring (cuz of my ADHD) and got on adderall. Its the only thing that makes me feel like part of the society, things like walking down the street and enjoying it instead of sitting in my room thinking about getting things done but not. weird man
cheers. in law school. can sit in a library staring at a case for hours, and have only read a handful of pages. before law school i sat down with a doctor at a family practice who laughed when i told her my issues, said she had the same problem focusing, and it took her three attempts to get into med school. i'd go see a doctor again, but it's so stigmatized and in principle i don't like the idea of drugs, so i'm stuck apportioning entire days to tasks that should take an hour or so. awesome.

I just started scrip Adderall in college. It doesn't work as well as Concerta for me, but my dock won't prescribe anything but the amphetamines. For adderall, I just have to bring in the handwritten scrip. I had the same side effects with too high a dose. Plus headaches and nausea. I'd suggest you ask your doctor about Concerta or Vivance.
have you tried modafinil(provigil) my problems slightly different rem stage sleep disorder related crappy memory n tiredness but its nice to know im nt the only person struggling to better myself at uni wiv a chaotic dysfunctional brain see for the study technique thing well i just rewrite everythingi think they want us to know and oh posters make posters n gd luck

Math in particular was the worst and although I love creative writing I can't use grammar correctly,lol. In college my doctor prescribed me Strattera. I remember getting up every morning to go to class feeling really sleepy and tired...the weirdest feeling ever...and it didn't help and almost lost my scholarship. Same situation with me. I'm supposed to graduate in 2011 as an undergrad. I thought i had ADD so my Dr. let me try adderall. It feels weird at first, but when you get used to it, it becomes a life saver. My grades have gone up. Just don't start off with anything higher than a 10mg dose to adjust it, should you decide to try it.

Over the past couple years after seeing my college education going down the drain i decided to go behind my parents back and get medicated. I went to a free clinic and they first put me on wellbutrin - gave me panic attacks and made me feel suicidal. Then straterra, which made me very tired. A week ago i got an adderall prescription from a psychiatrist, and I have never been happier. it is "so amazing". I always would stare at the same paragraph for hours without knowing what it said. Whats up I have a question? Im 28 and have ADD, it has been an obstacle in my life for as long as I have known! Despite leaping all the hurdles in school and getting a pretty well paying job I was never able to really sit down, thoroughly study math, and absorb it, as a result it sometimes makes life difficult! I have a couple math books next to my desk I want to open and study but between ADD and work it wont happen. Do you think if I get a bottle of these pills I could finally get math down?
I also was SO relieved to find someone that had the SAME reaction to Adderall as I do. I couldn't eat for the first month I was on it, but your appetite does come back, it can take up to a year to come back. I am also WAY LESS social than I usually am. I'm a very talkative person, but when I'm on adderall, I feel like I don't have anything of importance to say (probably because I was talking about random, nonsensical things when I wasn't medicated).

I'm starting to think I have ADD. I just thought I was lazy, and a creative day dreamer. But last semester I somehow managed to control my 'laziness' and I finally pulled off a decent set of grades. I took that as evidence of 'maturing'. No, this semester, I'm completely screwed. I have 5 research papers to write. I can't get started despite the chance of failing. I'm just feeling incredibly stuck and I'm planning to get checked :\ But even if I am diagnosed my college years are almost done.

I hated the fact that I depended on Adderall to ace my classes so I decided to go off it. I've been off it for like 6 months and I have my ups and downs. Some days my ADD's worse than ever and sometimes its quite mellow to the point I can actually focus and study. I have to say that in comparison to studying with Adderall, when I read I can recall what i've read in detail soon after.
In the end, it's like a really intense love/hate relationship with it...best of luck! :)

I can complete relate to your situation. Im currently completing my bachelor's in biology and have been on Adderall for a couple of years. I went through high school sans medication and even graduated from honor roll. As I entered college and classes got tougher I realized I didn't know how to study so I was prescribed Adderall and it worked like a wonder except I lost a lot of weight (probably 4 dress sizes) and looked famished.

In my case I compare my addiction to adderall to a line from the late poet Jim Carroll in reference to his heroin addiction "It starts like a kiss...and ends like a curse." At first, Adderall gave me the confidence,euphoria and ability to get a 780 on my verbal section of the GRE and 800 on the quantitative w\a 6\6 on the writing. I also managed to score in the 99th percentile on my Miller Analogies test. Now I'm on disability for depression from the long term use of adderall.

Do 50mg(arbitrary value) extended release and 50mg immediate release are equally harmful (either amphetamine or methylphenidate)? With immediate release we will fell more concentrated but for a short time and with time-release we feel comparatively less concentrated but for long time,right or wrong? I reared up a little at the end. I just started taking Adderall yesterday, I will be 20 in 2 weeks. I flunked my way through school graduating because my teachers liked my polite personality. Even though I always cut class because trying to sit through anyone talking for more than 10 minutes was impossible and frustrating. I feel truly sorry for you as now I know just how bad it was without Adderall. I hope everything works out for you.

I know some people that have the worst cases of add and never have seen this shit in my life. I know 30 year olds that are on the highest precriptions of adderall and do not act like this. How rediculous do you sound. I take 5 classes have to read over 300 pages a week, followed by 3 papers with a 300 word minimun, and on top of that I still have to do discussion based assessments with my 5 weekly tests.

I was the same exact way when i got to college, went to some doctors, few follow ups, never went back sometimes for a few months from forgetting or not caring (cuz of my ADHD) and got on adderall. cheers. in law school. can sit in a library staring at a case for hours, and have only read a handful of pages. before law school i sat down with a doctor at a family practice who laughed when i told her my issues, said she had the same problem focusing, and it took her three attempts to get into med school. i'd go see a doctor again, but it's so stigmatized and in principle i don't like the idea of drugs, so i'm stuck apportioning entire days to tasks that should take an hour or so. awesome.

I just started scrip Adderall in college. It doesn't work as well as Concerta for me, but my dock won't prescribe anything but the amphetamines. For adderall, I just have to bring in the handwritten scrip. I had the same side effects with too high a dose. Plus headaches and nausea. I'd suggest you ask your doctor about Concerta or Vivance.
Stratera doesn't help almost anyone, btw.

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. I too have ADD, but as for me, I suffer through out school. Math in particular was the worst and although I love creative writing I can't use grammar correctly,lol. In college my doctor prescribed me Strattera. I remember getting up every morning to go to class feeling really sleepy and tired...the weirdest feeling ever...and it didn't help and almost lost my scholarship. I don't see why they have to be so conservative with Adderal XR. The time released mixed d-amphetamine balances dopamine with more neuropenephrin, for less rush and more focus. Plus the formula is manufactured for a once a day non-habit forming consumption.

It feels weird at first, but when you get used to it, it becomes a life saver. My grades have gone up. Just don't start off with anything higher than a 10mg dose to adjust it, should you decide to try it.

Over the past couple years after seeing my college education going down the drain i decided to go behind my parents back and get medicated. I went to a free clinic and they first put me on wellbutrin - gave me panic attacks and made me feel suicidal. Then straterra, which made me very tired. A week ago i got an adderall prescription from a psychiatrist, and I have never been happier. it is "so amazing". I always would stare at the same paragraph for hours without knowing what it said. I couldn't eat for the first month I was on it, but your appetite does come back, it can take up to a year to come back. I am also WAY LESS social than I usually am. I'm a very talkative person, but when I'm on adderall, I feel like I don't have anything of importance to say (probably because I was talking about random, nonsensical things when I wasn't medicated).

wow, i feel the same way, whenever i tell anyone, "it makes me anti social" people tell me that im wrong. i get like in a zone so deep in my mind, that it feels like being social is so hard, and out of reach when i take it, i have been taking it for 10 years, 2 times a day, and i don't know if u guys can relate, but if i dont have it in the am, i am so unbelieveable tired i cannot focus in class work.

I just want to tell you how much better I felt after watching your video. It wasnt until about 6 months ago when my ADHD became so overwhelming that I couldn't read a 7 page article in less than 2 hours. Everything and everyone around me was SO distracting that I started to cry. And it's the WORST feeling to know that I'm smart and I'm so capable of getting good grades....And I felt guilty and lazy and I was convinced that It was MY FAULT

his dad also has it, along with two cousins. he has serve adhd by the way but any who i just want to let you know i feel for you. my thoughts and prayers go out to you

ogod poor girl sounds like you have been threw alot! i feel for you i really do. i have a son with adhd. i hope i dont have this problem with my son in the future. all that you have to go threw cuase of people abusing the drug. dont you just wanna smack some one. i had to fight just to get my son dignosed cuase i knew he had it cuase of his behaviors etc. and plus it runs on both sides of family.
