I have played this concerto with orchestra and I,m probobly the first swede that has done it all through with a swdish orchestra. Rampal edition is abit low for flute and the orchestra has to play so quiet most of the time. The edition of Galway is too high for my taste. Its a shame that Khatchaturian didnt transcriped it himselfe so we had his version and also a version for the orchestra wich match the flute better. Non the less, this perfomance by Mr Bylent Evic is amazing! Quite a thrill.
i know this is a forum for people to give their opinion but unless you have performed this piece at this very high standard then you should just listen and enjoy it also if you looked up james galways performance dates to see how many concerts he is still doing and the range of different pieces he plays, thats why he has music on a stand in front of him
And one more thing- I have seen Galway perform live and he READ FROM THE MUSIC. And not only that, he made mistakes. And when he made mistakes he looked at me and the rest of my flute studio in the front row and he gave us a big smile and a wink. Because he is human. And no human is perfect. Playing music is about making something beautiful. It is not about playing every single right note and it is not about memorizing music!!!!!
From one flutist to another- very beautiful performance of this concerto! I know the hard work that goes into learning this monster- and all the time you put into it shows through your playing! Bravo!
To other's who have had harsh criticisms:
Who cares whether or not he plays by memory?! Does that change the beauty of his playing?! Absolutely not. It makes absolutely no difference whether or not something is played from memory or from the music.

I really think this is out of tune, and I really dislike the interpretation. It is not hard to memorize this movement, or in fact, the whole concerto.
Omg ..Do u know who is him?? is mister Sir.James galway one of the best flute player in the world if u having hear the 3 movie of the lord of the ring sound track his him .. his best performace is the high notes nobody can play those note so perfect high , and fast like and very clean acute sounds .. try to play the concert like him do and u will know what im talking about...after Sir..Rampal is James never forget that ...
azkenshin: This is not James Galway. This is Bulent Evcil, at onetime a student of Mr. Galway. Although he is very good, there are better performances of this concerto. Try to broaden your scope, since there are many great flutists out there besides Galway and the late Rampal that you are missing out on. For instance you could listen to Emmanuel Pahud's version of this concerto and you will know what I'm talking about.
yyyyeeeeesssss maestro!!!!!!!!

Nice, but it would be better if he plays by memory... the guy is old, he plays very well, why does he need to read the partition??

I really like Galway, but this time he doesn't play well imho. I prefer Pahud interpretation.

Is this galway? I thought that it was just the Galway edition of the song performed by Bulent Evcil. I could be wrong though lol.

My apologies, that's why it didn't resemble him :D Anyway, He look like a young galway, that's why I mistook :P
