My 06 jetta tdi only had 120k on it and is at the dealer flat cam dealer wants 3800 for parts and labor but i get a new timming belt COME ON VW WE HAVE A PROBLEM HERE FIX IT! I was told by the manager that they used faulty cams in the 05 and 06 tdi's and have a updated cam thanks vw. O by the was if you had a passat tdi the warranty was extended HOW ABOUT THE JETTA'S VW? if you have a problem with this in a 05 or 06 call vw at 1800 822 8987 ask for Ivan tell him mr youngblood sent ya!
Top Gear doesn't drive around a school campus for their test track. Also, they tell you the good and bad about a car. Not to mention the f150 you were dragging against didn't get 40+ mpg like the diesel. Put the TDI vs a Prius for a valid comparison. Also with a few mods, the TDI would smoke the 150;.
@chris000089 pedal to the floor while under the torque band. lots of surging into the turbo and fuel doesn't get burnt. watch the exhaust carefully while he's driving off.
@chris000089 it's made for boosting the burning of fuel, but when you are below the torque band the turbo spools but the air comes back into the turbo blades making it slow down. in time this leads serious issues with the turbo blades. this is the problem on every turbo. it is recommended that you floor the pedal when you're in the torque band (usually starting from 1700-2100 RPM)
@xIcarus227 oh and btw. gasoline turbos have another problem aside from that. when the throttle is open and the turbo is at full capacity, a big problem can be when the throttle is slammed shut. this makes overpressure inside the turbo and is pretty dangerous. this is what blow-off valves are for. and they also reduce turbo lag because of the air being vented instead
I should also mention that Jeremy Clarkson compares the Jetta to being in a coma (among other things), and even Captain Slow himself (a.k.a. James May) calls it the most boring car in the world- and they are far more qualified than I am to do commentary on this car.
I have driven a Jetta TDI because my mother, unfortunately, owns one. And while there's no denying that it has better fuel economy and is generally more practical for those of you living where there is no dirt or trees, I will take my F150 V8 any day of the week simply because it is 10x more fun and useful. The Jetta is so dull I can't stay awake after 15 minutes in it. And for college students, no one dares put a scratch on a truck because they assume you will put a t-post through their face

sorry if this is half a year ago :P but chipping the computer along with modified injector nozzles can crank serious power out of these tdi's. mine is unitronic stage II with .205 injectors. 120,000km since mods and super reliable and just as economical. its about as fast or faster than a 180hp 1.8t (120whp, 250wtrq) once you learn how to drive your torque band but this mod will need at least a vr6 clutch/g60 flywheel. i STILL need my clutch kit but for 700 bucks worth of mods, i can't complain.
Well, I have an 06 TDI; I get over 700 miles to the tank in my commute between Scranton and NYC. My car definitely get to 60 in less than 10 sec. Perhaps, being stupid with the car you have adversely affected it's performance. Take it to the dealer.
I have a 2002 tdi that I have driven around the country and if your a no tallent ass clown who wants a racer don't buy one, but if you want a reliable car that will get you 1/3 of the way across the country on 14 miserly gallons and climb pikes peak and last for 300k miles plus, then get a jetta , if you want a street racer skip it
Tested vehicle is the base TDI (90 HP) engine. Since this year ('09 model) is the 2.0l TDI with 140HP. In Europe, you can even choose for a 2.0l with 170HP. Instead of complaining about HP issue regarding direct injected diesel engines, please know that most people are only driving torque at 99% of the time.
The 2006 Jetta in the video is the 100bhp version. The 90bhp was only in the old-shape Jetta. I agree that for most people its more than enough power.
If u dont like it, dont buy it. I happen to like my VW TDI'S. Quality German engineering. Something I know that will give me reliable motoring (from years of experience).

sorry if this is half a year ago :P but chipping the computer along with modified injector nozzles can crank serious power out of these tdi's. mine is unitronic stage II with .205 injectors. 120,000km since mods and super reliable and just as economical. its about as fast or faster than a 180hp 1.8t (120whp, 250wtrq) once you learn how to drive your torque band but this mod will need at least a vr6 clutch/g60 flywheel. i STILL need my clutch kit but for 700 bucks worth of mods, i can't complain.

Well, I have an 06 TDI; I get over 700 miles to the tank in my commute between Scranton and NYC. My car definitely get to 60 in less than 10 sec. Perhaps, being stupid with the car you have adversely affected it's performance. Take it to the dealer.

I have a 2002 tdi that I have driven around the country and if your a no tallent ass clown who wants a racer don't buy one, but if you want a reliable car that will get you 1/3 of the way across the country on 14 miserly gallons and climb pikes peak and last for 300k miles plus, then get a jetta , if you want a street racer skip it

Tested vehicle is the base TDI (90 HP) engine. Since this year ('09 model) is the 2.0l TDI with 140HP. In Europe, you can even choose for a 2.0l with 170HP. Instead of complaining about HP issue regarding direct injected diesel engines, please know that most people are only driving torque at 99% of the time.

The 2006 Jetta in the video is the 100bhp version. The 90bhp was only in the old-shape Jetta. I agree that for most people its more than enough power.
