HI-C is the way to go.. plus they are usually on sale... That is the same thing I drink...I hate the glucose tablets.. takes to long to eat them.. And I feel like I need like 10 of them to treat a low...
I usually just eat a granola bar. It could be a bit slower acting I suppose but it seems to work fine. I have a tub of licorice by my bed too. Its not the healthiest but it works. When I was younger and used to have comatose lows about once a year or so, I found that if the treat by me was tasty I was more likely to eat it. When I was "really mentally out of it" and someone put glucose gel in my mouth I would just spit it out and need a glucagon shot. I would eat toast or candy though.
my doc says orange juice is fastest especially when you are crashing and cannot help your self. your partner can give you orange juice when you cannot respond yourself.
realy :) yeah she said orange juice is fastest and my girlfriends moms specialists told her that to. wow will try that milk does a body good. dude give me more info please. :) i am only type 2 and her mom is type one i had to recently give her that sugar shot i dont know what to call it if only i new that milk would have worked. grape juice is fastest hmmm. dude i am a baby diabetic only known for 4 years now. wow i need to ask this dietitician why she said orange juice.
I was told OJ for so long too, years was the best. I think it might have alot to do with the fact most people have OJ in their house. Though volume wise OJ has more Carbs... Milk has less carbs but react quicker in the blood stream.
Grape juice is the most sugarific!!! BodyBuilders and athletes use grape juice to enhance and spike their glucose levels before training. It has a high volume to glucose ratio... interesting right
interesting this is sweeeeet man. this info may save my life sometime. your my hero lol :). will save my girl friends mom someday i know that i have pulled her out of it 5 times now it is getting scary it is worse and worse every time i do it.
Some of the things that you mention, like Granola bars and candy, take too long when your sugars are really low. Get some liquids into you like 1HappyD suggests. I carry a cooler with cans of orange soda. I usually shop for the highest sugar content that I can find. That gets me up quickly and it doesn't keep my sugars looming in the stratosphere for hours. That means that I can have normal food later without going too high. I don't use a pump B-C they suck. Shots work best for me.
I always carry with me glugosetables ore/and glugogel. i dont realy like the glugogel but i allways have it in my pocket. so if i have so low bloodsugar that i cant chew the tablets.
Juice Boxes are nice... I call them "LOW ON THE GO" <-- If that is not trade maked I want it. I drink the small H-C juice boxes and they have 25 carbs. That's like about 5 glucose tabs. I drink the whole thing in emergency lows, or I drink a portion of it correct to what I think I need. I try to always have one juice box in my car, its a great relief to me to not eat 5 Glucose tabs and cough from the "chalk" that dusts my mouth and makes them so hard to swallow.

Interesting about what your MD said. Grape juice is the fastest, and actually some "food" for thought.... MILK works faster then Orange juice!!!
I usually have juice boxes I drink that have @ 25 carbs and thats does the trick.
Thank you for your posts! Good Luck!
