  • anne rice is right. And usually will be. I love her books, she is still a awesome person. To meet her would be an honor. :)

  • Her impeccable writing skills and devouring characters honestly changed my life. Watching her now talk about the characters, and making jabs at the other Vampire Series' out there makes me want to go back and reread all of her work.

Thank you for all that you've written, and the amazing impact you've had on my life, and the life of thousands of people!

  • anne rice will forever be THE BEST!! :)

  • when she said hopefully good films she meant to say that twiglight sucks insect blood

  • best vampire story's interview with the vampire

    30 days of night

daybrakers was all right kinda a twist on society and population more vampires then humans and they dont turn to monsters untill they lack blood that they live in society

    and must we forget Dracula????

  • anne rice's book and i totally agree with allydelarge's opinion.

  • haha. fanatics don't really scare me coz i can be a bit 'fanatic' at times, about things i love. i'm certainly a Rice fanatic... if you count the fact that i wax lyrical abt her books in any conversation with the vaguest mention of vampires.

she's doing angels, now....angels fascinate me too. i MUSt get my hands on Angel Time very soon

  • I cannot understand anyone who claims to be an Anne Rice fan, and loves Twilight at the same time. I mean, of course, it's simply a matter of taste, but Twilight is a poorly written story, and the worst thing about it is that it had potential to actually be interesting. In my opinion, the characters in Twilight (specially Bella) are some of the most dull characters I've ever read about. No depth, futile (did you notice how Bella only enhances Edward's looks?), no personality at all. It's sad.

  • I totally agree with you, I've read the first two books and I really hate Bella character she idolize Edward so much that is painful to read it. I don't consider twilight saga a vampire story, is just a romance novel that happens to have vampires in it.

  • i was gonna say something but you've said it for me. haha *hi five*

i want a t-shirt or smthg that says "Twilight: No Blood, Just Suckers"

Well maybe that's extreme, but i have my reasons for thinking so. the watering-down & sanitisation of vamps, for one.

(i feel the avalanche-like wrath of a million teenies descending upon my back. "How dare you call our Edward a sucker....!!!!")

  • LOL! amazing, well put! couldnt said it better myself

  • Best book(s) I ever read was Queen of the damed and not to mention "Memnoch The Devil"

  • I fell in love with the story of Memnoch. It gave such a unique view of the devil sans the Church influence upon the story of the supposed fall.

  • I adore the Twilight books. I've seen Trueblood and tried reading the books and for me it's ok and it just doesn't do anything for me. I'm not a huge vampire/gore fan so maybe that's why it doesn't appeal too much for me.

  • I really, really love how I can go on this video and see not one hater comment about Twilight. Its nice to be able to see some intellectual conversation going on instead of just flamers. I like Twilight. But it's an easy read. Anne's books are much more intellectually based, and are written in a way that Meyer probably could not attempt. They are two very different people, with two different stories.

  • and despite being a vampire fan (save for twilight) i must say, Lestat will always be my fav !

  • He is truly the Brat Prince. Or has he been dubbed King yet? Oh he was magnificent. And I'm ashamed to say I haven't read Blackwood Farm yet. I own it but haven't read it. Oh hon, Lestat is the epitome of the vampire. And I used to wish he were real. He would make an excellent partner for the rest of time.

  • Adore you Anne with or without Lestat and Marius. You are a brilliant author, and I wish I had half your talent.

  • While I definitely prefer Anne's books a thousand times more than Stephenie's, I do like the Twilight books. People say the writing's horrible and that vampires don't sparkle. The writing isn't horrible, it's a lot better than a lot of teen fiction out there and I like how she was creative with the legend of the vampire. Anywhore, Anne is brilliant, and Stephenie is good as well.

  • good explanation Ms. Rice! :] Thanks!

  • I agree that the Twilight books do not compare to Anne's books as far as the depth of characters, history, layers....but the Twilight books have produced thousands of new readers, like myself. I never really read before, and now I can't stop! After Meyer I discovered Anne which I LOVE (in a different way than Twilight). Meyer is also a NEW author. Let's give her a little credit here people.

  • Now. Have you asked those people what they're reading once they finish Breaking Dawn? From what I've seen, they do not seem to pick up any books and are just pining away waiting on her to finish Midnight Sun. These people, sure they're reading, but there's more to life than just Twilight. It's called read other vampire novels if that's your passion in reading. If they need more ideas, I can give many.

  • Co-workers and friends of mine started a book club a year ago after reading Twilight (which we loved, and it sparked our interest in reading). Here is what we've read so far: Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Anna Karennina, The Time Travelers Wife, Catch 22, Anne's Vamp books (we are on Armand now), and I've read all 3 Witching Hour books....can't wait to read the cross over. I hope that answers your question :).

  • The Twilight series was alright, but I agree with a few of you that this hype is ludicrous(the storyline's too basic to warrant this much enthusiasm in my opinion). It's great that they're making movies too, but in all honesty, I've been waiting patiently for years for another

Anne Rice VC movie to come out(a series that truly deserves the time, and imagination, and the money and manpower it takes to make a great vampire movie).

  • Nooo! Anne! You don't understand! What were once called vampires have turned to something horrible! It's times like this we need you most! D:

  • if you like that teen angsty stuff and/or are a teenager, then Twilight is probably for you. I agree with Chibirella that Anne's vampire chronicles have much more depth, so i enjoy the many layers... and i can find an angsty character or two in the chronicles if im in the mood for that. I also think that Anne's books arent necessarily for adults tho. Alot of my friends started reading her material as teenagers and have now actually moved on to her christian series as adults.

  • I think it's like pirates, zombies and any other horror, romance and pop-fiction characters. A lot can be done with them, and they fall in and out of fashion.

  • I'm honestly a bit annoyed by that.... a few years ago ppl looked at me like I'm a freak when I started to talk about vampires, and now... where ever I turn everybody is just freaking lunatic about them. And why? Because of freaking teen-vampire and other movies made about them recently ... Twilight books are ok (if you're not into vampires too much) but kids that freak out when they see a glowing vampire who falls in love with a human girl and gets her pregnant. Come on... Really...

  • The Twilight books are written for a younger audience, I believe, and I find it amazing how many adults have cottoned onto them. I read them, and I don't think Bella is a very good role model for young women at all, that is my most important complaint. Not that every book needs a heroine, but she exemplifies so many of the problems in our society, and it is worrisome how many girls would like to be like her.

  • I think Lestat's dogged perseverance and determination towards goodness despite what befalls him is inspiring, and worthy of the inevitable role model status popular fiction characters attain.

  • [I don't wish to appear intrusive but I have to post more than 500 characters to express my oppinion, sorry:)]

When I read a comment on youtube from someone who belives that the vampire series are just an imitation of Meyer's books to get some credit I am shocked.

Some people do not even know that the vampire chronicles were written much earlier than twilight.

I find those reproaches very poor because they insult the novels without even knowing how much work and love stands behind them.

  • And about the comparison:

I actually liked Twilight very much for the love story before all the hype came up but I think everybody who just once reads Anne's novels has to admit that Meyer's vampires are far away from the depth of Anne's.

  • Maybe the reader gets to know their raw history and some details about their living time but they are just not dealing with the real heavy stuff like the search for a living reason, religion, the loss of loved ones, circumstances from the times they once belonged and especially not with guilt for killing (in my opinion it would have been much for complex to let Edward be a "real" vampire instead of a vegan because therefore Bella would have get to know the darkest side of love).

  • can find the romance between Edward and Bella beautiful without actually learning something or feeling Anne's passion for love, death, religion and real beauty.

In addition I find it curious that Meyer's characters are all completely straight. Maybe for her it has to be that way because of her mormon way of life but the basic bisexuality of vampires is something I adored about the chronicals because it brought a different image of aesthetic and attraction.

  • Besides the Sookie Stackhouse stories include both gay and straight characters, too.

Anyways all these points and lots of more unmentioned reasons let me see more than just simple books to read for fun in Anne Rice' novels. This is why I can read the twilight novels and like them without ever finding them any comparable to Anne's precious books at all.

greetings to Anne and sorry for posting that much ;)

  • @Chibirella Have you read the House of Night series? (By PC and Kristin Cast I believe) It came out about the same time as Twilight, it makes me thinks of a combination of vampires and Harry Potter! But I just thought it was more cleverly written and a better example for young people than the Twilight saga, and I thought you might enjoy them. I enjoyed your comments.

  • Thank you janajuggles ^^ I haven't read the House of Night series but I think I will search them on the internet ^^ Thank you for the advice ;)

  • I wanted to post more than 500 words as well! I was SHOCKED to hear people actually don't know that Anne wrote her novels before Meyer! I agree that Anne goes into way more depth than Meyer. Rice's novels are used in universities around the US and maybe the world, that says something right there! Thanks for sharing Chibirella!

  • I agree. Not to mention, Rice's vampires have such more personalities and a vampiric feel to them. I'm sick of talk of vampires being dominated by Meyers books, they are a simple and nice read but do not stand up to such classic vampire fictions as the Vampire Chronicles.

  • Amen and Amen!

  • sorry but i don't think that twilight is that great. It will never compare to your work!

  • The Twilight series vampires seem to lack the dangerous quality to themThey lack the qualities that the traditional vampires have: they don't have fangs, they don't drink human blood, and they sparkle in the sunlight instead of bursting into flames. In a way I think it's a mockery of all vampires by making them weaker figures that embrace humanity more than the typical vampire. I'm a student at UCR and your work is greatly appreciated there.

  • I love your books, hope we see more films based on them. True Blood for me does the best adaptation with today's vampires, and like "Let the right one in" make me really believe for some time on the history.

Thanks Anne Rice for Lestat and all of them, the true modern inspiration for all the vampires.

  • mmm, I don't like twilight vampires,i think that is the classic teen love story but with vampires that doesn't are vampires at all.

Is fine to young girls who don't want know about vampires how they might be, and want silly stories about love and chastity.

i would that people know about 'real' vampires like yours, not only teen-idols like of stephanie meyer books.

    Greetings from Argentina
