Shame on Sony, you can still do your advert without abusing a country of about 140 million people. I'm a nigerian and like majority of nigerians I've never duped anyone in my life. Shame!
What kind of abuse! It is a simple advert to convince those who would not believe the offer that seems too good to be true, such as letters from Nigeria .
Nestoba, rules of advertising,if you are not aware,do not allow for direct assaults at 'bodies' or specific name-dropping.
Have you EVER in history seen a Sony ad that mentioned Sharp or Panasonic in it or vice versa? They know exactly what they're doing and of course, have hired marketing gurus to do their marketing and publicity.
Mr Director Kevin Butler, the advert industry is much more
intelligent than this strategy of calumny against Nigeria.
I recommend you pursue a more sane publicity approach in your advert.
It may interest you to know, Mr Director that Nigeria is well over 150million and only a meagre size much more less than 0.25% is responsible for the acts that you premised
your highly shameful and image rendering advert on, especially when I remember Nigerians hold your products in high esteem.
This just shows that even the mighty companies can be shallow minded. Whether or not this was a joke, naming a country out like that isn't nice and being very inconsiderate to it's people. And for all the brainwashed people who dont see this as offensive, whether or not it's a joke, give it a rest. It wasn't a nice thing for sony to say / do.
The one reference made to Nigeria can be said to be sequel to the 419 get-rich-quick emails that emanate from Nig which have become synonymous with "us". Rather than moan at Sony, we should make the effort to put Nig on the 'straight & narrow' by getting rid off corruption & similar reprehensible behaviour.
Wayo woman, Akunyili has seized on this saga to prop up her sagging image but it also exposes the thoughtlessness in her REBRANDING exercise. i.e. IT AIN'T WORKING!
..Why change the label on a beer bottle when the content is still the same? How much has Dora spent on REBRANDING so far? Couldn't it have been used to provide employment for the youth & reduce the number of 419 scammers?..
To deny that there are no get-rich-quick fraudsters in Nig is like USA denying not be in occupation of Iraq or dont possess Nuclear arsenal. Denying the existence of scam in Nig is akin to deceiving one's self.
That said, everyone ought to realise that fraudsters & the corrupt (Politicians) are in the minority in Nig.
no need to take it personal. not my fault ur first comment was very shallow. and by the way there are good Nigerians and things Nigerians have done that are good. No one is God and therefore live ur life and stop tracking what other people are doing. Check urself matie, cos u seem to be lost. and next time when u comment don't be a whimp and delete it. let's see it. kk??? :)
Common everyone..there are so many jokes out there..Irish, German, Polish, Chineses, French, Zulu, Blond and so on. I think this one is on us! It is a smooth line...just like what Quintin Tarentino would write. Nice one! By the way, I am a Nigerian too.
It is sad for a cooperate organisation like SONY to air this kind of advert, it is insulting to the entire Nigerian people is this was said about Americans or Britons I bet Sony would have been properly sanctioned but because its Nigerian they find it funny and a marketing tool. I think the authorities should have a look at this commercial and Sony be properly sanction and head of the organisation should apologies to the Nigerian people
Now, u time waster called paddyenzo, u suck like hell.
Listen to yourself first. Are you now the most holy person on earth? I've never engaged in or support any act detrimental to d image of my dear country, Nigeria, for your information! The situation in the country may not be close to what we want it to be but I will not because of that see her name dragged in the mud which is what you're doing.
If you're tired of being a Nigerian, go to hell, motherfucker.
You're trying hard to find your bearing - just have a look at the way you're contradicting and correcting yourself, u fool.
I want to ask u a question & that will zeal your dirty mouth off.
Do u think more negative promos (with shameless support from fool like u) promoting negative view about well meaning Nigerians like this one is what is needed to solve the problems?
Two wrongs don't make a right, there4,stop your stupid rants.
u must be regretting God made you a Nigerian-accept my sympathy.
The agony of a huzzler ranting from Russia. Why are you taking this personal? You shouldn't have started this in the first place if you know you can't stand the HEAT. :-P
Byeeeeeeeee - I don't have your time again, tired kicker.
I think America is wagging war against Nigeria. Not like that type of Iraq war, but media war. They pretend to do stuffs in our favour, but do much more destroying us.
I dont think this ad is wrong. I KNOW THIS AD IS WRONG.
And to think that the Censors Board in charge of Advertisement in America will endorse this for public viewing? I think Hillary and co are in no moral position to come here and accuse our government of not being well managed. If this kind of attack on Nigerians would be coming from their country and they couldnt control it.
Yo,how would u feel if you saw someone in an ad and someone makes a remark saying:"Yo dude! Are you really as dumb as an American(or put your country name here)?..."
How would you feel? What would be your take? That's how we Nigerians feel and we feel that comment was totally inappropriate and Sony should apologize publicly to Nigerians and the Nigerian Government and at the same time,WITHDRAW that ad!
Naija pips, instead of just whining, abeg flag the video!!!
The same way you would be affected if the ad said something negative about the entire citizenry of Sweden...thot about that?
It's the same mentality behind that comment that spurs a negative attitude of others(foreigners) towards Nigerians in general even in cases when the attitudes and motive are purely right and pure, respectively.
Don't know how powerful words are?Try recalling something said to you that hurt u in times past and has changed your mindset towards something...
You really think people are going to keep the full picture of that nigeria statement in mind? The fact that you had to explain it makes the point... Its wrong dude, stop fooling urself
So when hes saying you cant believe everything you hear on the internet, otherwise Id be a Nigerian millionaire by now. Hes pretty much quoting Akin who once said White people are too gullible. They are rich; and whatever I gyp them out of is small change to them."
Alright idiots.... let me break this down for you, when he says ''Nigerian millionaire'' he's referring to a person named Akin, who he himself makes a living for his family in Nigeria by scamming peoples credit cards then, buying stuff from eBay and reselling it on the black market, there are virtually no laws in Nigeria for E-scams.
No one is making fun of the Nigerian people or stating that the millionaires there engage in fraud or other criminal activities. This commercial just pokes fun at the emails people send to others to get them to give them money or credit card information (ie: You've just won the "enter country here" lottery, give us your credit card number so we can transact the money). No one said that Nigerians were criminals. Ugh, people can find something wrong with pretty much everything I suppose.
@ ultimategamer14, the Point is its highlighted NIGERIANS and its wrong, cos end of the day, you will be surprised at the number of Non-nigerians that engage in similar fraudulent activities associated with only Nigerians. so basically, so many others from diff nationalities engage in such spam mails sent out to people.
I never said anything about Nigerians being the only people who have engaged in fraudulent activities. And of course there are scammers everywhere, from many different nationalities. The Nigerian scams are just the most well known.
I am Nigerian too and will be emailing the Nigerian High Commission to take this matter further,I will never buy a sony product again and i will spread the words in Nigerian community asmuch as i can and God help any sony company in Nigeria.
This advert is an insult to Nigerians!.It is inflammatory and completly unecessary. I know they were trying to keep the advert light and playful, but no 1 enjoys being the butt of jokes. Especially when its about Nigerians as a people. Americans and English people wouldn't enjoy it if they were ALL reffered to as being criminals now would they? I think that this advert was scripted by a short sighted person and approved by similarly small minded people. A retraction/apology is in order.
Morons, the "nigerian millionaire" thing is referring to the spam emails everyone gets where it says "you are the great grandson's cousin's uncle's boyfriend of king whosiewhatsit from uzbekistan and are entitled to 5 kazillion dollars if you just send us $1000 to confirm your identity"
Actually mate, we know what they are refferring to. And its offensive for them to say that. By saying "Nigerian Millionaire" they put ALL Nigerians in that class. When in fact, there are several hundred Nigerian millionaires who have never engaged in fraud or any other criminal activity. It is an offensive statement and its suprising that a multinational company like Sony would air this commercial. Its ridiculous. They should know better.
Your misinformed advertising agents must know how this could affect the Nigerian community worldwide, you have a duty as an ethical company to avoid the spread of comments such as this, as you have misrepresented Nigerians in all ramifications. Until an apology is issued by a Sony representative, I would henceforth cease from buying any Sony product whatsoever, including TVs, Laptops, Play station, Sony music products and any products that has a Sony brand on it.
so if someone says your mom is a Nigerian Fraudster, you will just laught it off....... Nigeria is our homeland, and we should defend her honour and glory, regardless of what image it may have as we all know, but its the greed of the fools that allows there stupidity to be exposed.
MORE REASON WHY I WILL JAILBREAK MY PS3 AND ANY SONY products i have.....you dissed my country, I diss your business.
