um i have seen tons of those shows on bootlegs ect. cmon just listen to the tokyo dvd , he sounds like pure shit . his voice is ment for song likes dont cry where his voice is monotone and not so high and screechy , his voice couldnt take all the growling and howling that all the illusion songs had ( hence it being overproduced) he sounded ok for maybe 6 months of 91 when that tour statred and izzy was there and by 93 he stopped straining his voice so much and sounded decent

His voice was suited for everything and he knew it but he wasn't interested in maintaining it. He wanted to record it, change rock history, and then flick everybody off for the rest of his life.

@holyhousesitter I think you make an almost fair point, but to say that Axl's voice is meant for one type of song is wrong: nobody has a voice meant for growling and howling, Janis Jplin would have fucked up her voice had she lived long enough to see the day, Robert Plant fucked up his voice after years of howling despite having a very powerful tenor voice, Freddy Mercury damaged his voice and you could already notice just how less powerful his voice was after a couple of years of going at it.

@holyhousesitter I saw him G n' R in 1992 and his voice sounded great...with touring like that he is bound to have a tired voice and not always sound 100%. This happens to other singers, is not an Axl phenomenon. At least he sang live every single time, which cannot be said about a lot of today's artists

A lot of artist would still be at their best had they not done the live shows that damaged their voice. Of course, I'm not saying that live shows are always negative, but tours do have detrimental effects on the voice of the singer.
