This is rediculous, I suppose some of you are trying to rationalize by blaming this on gun laws, religious groups, americans, whatever you choose. However, the reality is that sometimes people just go crazy and kill tons of people. It's happened since the dawn of time and it will continue too happen, no devolving gun control laws, social reform, or isolationism will stop it. In any case, this kid definantly didn't hit the highscore.
These types of shootings will continue to increase. Law enforcement agencies cannot protect you from this. Whenever you go to school (no matter how much they raise the security) you're not safe. Why? -Prevention isn't being exalted (by the media) instead of the shooters that get the most kills. So tell me, will these types of tragedies become more innovative and common?
Yes! b/c the current techniques used to combat these tragedies is obsolete and the truth is ignored for greed's sake.

This is true at most parts. Alcohol is very big problem in Finland, (i personally dont drink at all) and most people deny it. Most crimes are made when people are very drunk.
People who dont drink (like me) are seen as religious freaks or non-masculine girlyboys etc...you get the point?

That should teach all of us not to pick on the nerds . . . . they either grow up and own the business we will work for OR they will kill us . . .(sarcasm)
the US gun culture isn't to blame. He could always have used another method, like mass poisoning.
I think however, that these spree killers may be copying US killers. Newspapers (like the Chicago Sun-Times) are helping to prevent this by keeping school shootings off the front page.
what does america have in any way anything whatsoever to do with this tragedy? these was perpetrated by finns in a finnish school against finnish students in finland. this is not an exclusively or in any way influened or created by americans. schools shootings have happened in colorado and in minnesota, two of the american states its true, but this has also happened elsewhere in the world, france, germany japan, korea and now finland. your xenophobia and blind hysteria is not helpful at all
i hate some, some are nice, some are bad. Their politics suck and their ignorance and narrow mindedness is suffocating. but as i said, some are nice and some are bad.
I've nothing against the average American citizen. However, I feel that American-Cultural-Imperialism is definitely a problem which is facing the world we live in. Some kids here in the UK are totally obsessed with crime, gangs, knives, guns, RAP music which has violent racist undertones, and it seems that the 'true' 'unique' indentities of all the European Countries is getting swamped-out by greed and capitalism
We need to take a long look at the effect the media has on our children
I have some doubts about the whole "American-Cultural-Imperialism" idea you seems to use as a catch-all blame for the state of the youth. I am living in a country where the United-States is barely two hours of drive away (Canada).
Over here, we don't have any of the teen violence you are describing, or at least, not at your level. Due to our geographical proximity, we should bear the worse of this "Cultural Imperialism" and yet, we don't.
I guess the US influence has nothing to do with it.
With regard to young people in Canada, I will have to take your word for it, as I have never been there. But I'm sure Canada still has a 'crime rate', in places like Toronto etc
Yes, you are correct, the US gets blamed far too much. But even if we had no crime here in Europe, I still feel the American Culture is being rammed down our kids throats.
Of course, we got a crime rate. Denying it would be quite presumptuous of my part. We got crime and jails but we are not exposed to a crime wave due to our proximity to the United-States.
As far as I am concerned, there's a fringe element in every state. This element will latch itself to any cultural excuse to justify it's violence. On this angle, American Gangsta-Rap, "Class-Warfare", Racism or Islam are mere excuses to rationalize violence.
At the end of the day the individual is responsible.
I agree with you, 3435464656. The truth is ignored. I know this because I study these tragedies closely and whenever I contact new agencies, key figures in society and even government leaders like the president, I am ignored (because I speak the truth). The truth threatens the profit line of the mass media (which includes many branches)
I agree with you. The blame is always the US or Muslims. At no point were any of the two mention. The causes are hard to tell, but rather than religious or national, I's say, loneliness, stress, anger, etc.
This does not justify what he did, but it's stupid pointing fingers at others who had nothing to do with this
It's horrible that the shooting happened. Still, society isn't collapsing. It's just human nature someone will be crazy, and no amount of laws/regulations are going to stop it.
i myself am Finnish, though not born in Finland and the few years I lived in among the most peaceful and progressive country of all the world this is disturbting. Some of the young are becoming vandals, lost and gothic so they must be inspired and motivated otherwise.
I guess America's greedy capitalism wasn't the reason for America's school shootings after all. (I never believed it was, but that was asserted in Europe.)
Personaly i blame it on the alienation of american youth, Media, amd schools making high school seem so important ... im not to sure why it happened in finland, but its sad that this is becoming common
What do both countries (Finland and USA) have in common? High per capita rates of gun ownership, and easier accessibility to guns for young people. Altho, that's not necessarily the only problem or even the main problem... in this case, the two Finnish school shooters knew each other thru the internet and idolized American school shooters.
How sad... what an unfortunate situation compounded by the knee jerk reaction to blame it on the internet, guns or societal prosperity(?). It is becoming increasingly obvious that, more often than not, occurrences like these have an unspoken correlation to side effects of a mental illness prescription. Does anyone know if this guy was on/off medication? Was his mental health in question?
I can see why they blame the Internet, it makes it easier for kids all over the world who have similar thoughts to look up webpages that more or less work as "shrines". There is a lot of it right here on YouTube. The media is partly to blame, these people know they will get famous if they do something like that. So a solution could be to downplay it in the media, the same way they do with suicides.
It's USA cancer that spreading to the rest of the world. Humanity must get rid itself of this cancerous entity called USA.
USA culture and way of life are the source of many problems.Teenagers throughout the world just copy the behavior of the USA criminals, since these teenagers think that this is cool thing to do.
How simple it is to blame the United States for all the ills under the sun while other countries have done oh-so much worse in their history.
There was a shooting because a punk refused to assume his own life and used the pathetic excuse of blaming the others for everything. The U.S. is not to blame. The real problem is nihilism.
anyone can see that guns are popular in the culture of usa. why is everyone trying to hide bad things about usa? "other countries have done oh-so much worse in their history". woow, so nuking civilians in japan was nothing? americans keep criticizing every single nation in their living rooms and whenever someone is criticizing usa, then its all wrong. look at what kind of movies you get from usa. its all violence. experts say children arent violent cause of movies. yeah, tell that to the dead.
"other countries have done oh-so much worse in their history". woow, so nuking civilians in japan was nothing?" Gods, get a clue. Ask anybody who's chinese about Nanking, Koreans about the occupation from 1910, and Oh Yeah, anybody who's Jewish or Romany about their fun times in Germany. It's just under the surface of us all. That's where the brutality comes from. We're all still dangerous primates. Brutal. Mindless. Lethal.
I love the revisionist's view of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombing was made in wartime and both cities were logistical centers for the Imperial Navy.
If you follow the rule of war, the destruction of those two cities were legit.
Besides, have you talked to Japanese who loved during the second world war? I did. In 1945, Japan wasn't looking for surrender. They were training their children in killing GI soldiers with sharp bamboo poles. Hard to talk peace with fanatics.
Yeah. Always fixated on the "bomb". They seem to forget the firebombings of Tokyo, Dresden, London/Coventry, and Shanghai. Lots of people killed with good old napalm and thermite. As far a fanaticism goes, it's really something relative to the culture. In their eyes, I'm sure that dying for the Showa Emperor was a great thing as a citizen. The Korean folks I know would've been very glad to help them.
During World War Two, it was believed that a solid air assault was enough to bend the will of the population; it never worked. London and many other English cities were targeted every night by the German air force without any success. If we add the fact that the term "Strategic Bombing" was an oxymoron before guided bombs, yeah, the civilians got it bad.
There's only one way to deal with fanatics; crush their morale. On this, even at a high cost, the bombs did their job.
Shootings like this happen a lot here in the US, it's messed up how things like this happen all the time. This would be something you couldn't imagine happening.
In a lot of these cases, anti depressants often feature somewhere in there.

i myself am Finnish, though not born in Finland and the few years I lived in among the most peaceful and progressive country of all the world this is disturbting.

@FinnHawk guns have nothing to do with crime. crime is caused by social situations.

How sad... what an unfortunate situation compounded by the knee jerk reaction to blame it on the internet, guns or societal prosperity(?).

Save the world - stop the USA cancer!

Yada yada yada...

SatanicCod 3 years ago

Bingo.
