At TBC and Vanilla WoW.. was too hard for some ppl, so they were complaining to it and now it's pretty easy. Easy to get gear, lvl up, everything... So ppl can see the whole game, not just 1 part of it... That's why WoW is stupid to ppl, because it's easy! :P

before instances like those in POP, the open world bosses, didnt mean 80 people, they were for as many as the zone could handle before suffocating. So 2-3 guilds racing and training eachother basically. Most realms had rotations for the planes though even for Ntov (imagine wow players needing the social skills to handle such policies), but the open world dragons or Avatar meant races, and 100+ people at a time.

I played AoC when it first came out. It wasn't a bad game in and of itself. Funcom is just full of idiots, which is a shame. As it stands now, I like where Blizzard took WoW. It will have to eventually end (will it?) and I will be waiting for Blizzard's next MMO with everything they've learned from WoW. People will cry, but they will continue playing.

It's sad that wow overshadows Lotro so much. Turbine made a really good game (taking a few things from wow), but still an awsome game....and it will never get the love it deserves. Is it better than wow? no. But with the money and resources blizzard has to throw at wow, turbine cant compete with that. World of Warcraft has the absolute best engine in an mmo period. Thats ultimately why its so succesful. It scales on almost all modern comps. from the shittiest, to the fastest (like mine :P)!!

if you want to get even further back than Everquest, etc.... you can look at something called MUDs or MUSH. Text based online multiplayer games featuring leveling up, killing stuff, etc.. They're surprisingly fun, there are still several around. ie: wotmud, though you may be a bit young to remember these types of games.

I really think SW:G deserved a spot on your timeline there, though. For sure was huge in the MMO scene and helped concrete it for nerds everywhere.  Nowadays, and I also forgot to mention on my playlist, there's things like Global Agenda which I rather enjoyed for a spell. Very different with its optional monthly payments and access, imo.
