Just want to give a huge thanks to ya jazzpur for making stuff like this available to the public and with such good detail. It really helps the community. Because of yrs on vortex and these vids i built my 1.8 this summer. thanks alot bro!
what rods you putting into that motor? over the winter i plan on frankenturboing my AWW jetta. and will be pulling motore so might as well put some rods in.
@jazzpur - You forgot the most important tool. Obviously, the torque wrench is a Snap-on 3/8" "tech wrench". The red casing indicates that this is a torque wrench only, meaning that DOES NOT do angles. A gray casing would indicate a "techangle wrench", meaning that does ft/lbs., in/lbs., nms. & degrees. Almost all modern vehicles require the head bolts to be tightened in stages, plus an additional xx degress at the final torqueing. I know this because I've seen them at work, & have done this.
@Gordon302 please watch all videos before commenting. the final head bolt tigthening involves a torque stage and two final 90 degree turns of each bolt in sequence. a specific tool to do angles is not necessary on vw motors, as anybody willing to rebuild their own engine should be capable of judging a 90 degree angle by eye based on where you start the wrench and finish the wrench.
I def go to the store this week I just purchased a 2001 vw jetta 1.8t I plan on rebuilding the head to take the high boost Any tips u can give me to proceed this idea?
@norwoode30 thanks! you can pretty much pick up a standard ring compressor at any auto parts store. i believe i got this on from adavance auto parts, maybe napa. around $10-15.
My 1.8 t engine its being rebuilt right now the timing belt broke and damage the headers and bent the valves, now how bad that is? and would you recomend me to fix it or get a new car??
You will probably spend $300-400 at a machine shop rebuilding the head. Hopefully there is no cylinder damage? Check it or get it checked as well. If it's all apart you should also replace timing belt stuff.
Headgasket, valve cover gaket, water pump, tensioner, timing belt, head bolts.
maaann how much did all those parts/liquids/tools cost?

@gordon302 the bolts are designed to stretch , naturally; so human error of 2 or 3 degrees in either direction is not going to effect the end result

Hahaha, I break in with autozone oil too. I prefer the hard break-in technique though, so break in oil is only in there for about 15 minutes.
