  • MJ is the best but there are so may great players do n't take the charge they deserve!for example dominique was soooo great player and had some great battles vs mj.in this game he ''only" had 28p.11reb,but i also remember many 40+ games and a game he 57 points,of course mj anwer 4 months later when he had a 61points game!so great battles betwwen them,mj also had great battles with magic,drexler,barkley,b.king,isiah,dumars,hardaway,payton,k.johnson,mullin,r.miller,rice, but the best were vs bird!

  • @SPMJ, often I make myself to reminence just what it was like just before I could possibly dunk in bball. Immediately after I made use of the training system at 50-inch-vertical(dot)com - my game has been improving alot

    Bulls @ Hawks 88-89: Michael Jordan 48/10/9.

  • drose just had a game similar to this against the hawks not too long ago :)

  • please guys dont compare MJ, the God of basketball with any other player. No contest, he is the best

  • It`s so frustrated to read that today`s basketball player is better player than twenty years ago. Well there are a lot of players that can dunk in more ways today than they back then. The handling skills are a little better. But the fundamentals are gone, the team play is also missing and the heart. The passion, the sacrifice is not in the game anymore. these guys just don`t have it. A 76ers `83 team any of the 80`s Lakers team, any of the Celts 80`s team, 89/90 Pistons team would cruise today

  • @mikjord

What "fundamentals" are missing from today's game?

What "passion" and "sacrifice" is missing now? Have you seen Kobe play?

  • @TheOtherView

Why do U think the league changed the rules to FAVOR perimeter players?

It was done to curtail a league besieged with guys with a LACK of formal training on the collegiate level, not to mention to create an "aesthetically appealing" game in hopes of increasing offense & efficiency, and to bring back longtime fans who'd stopped tuning in BECAUSE they saw a LACK of fundamentals & passion.

The league changed from being about substance & team play to individual style & money..

  • The Atlanta Hawks were a very athletic team back then. In fact they were the superior team. But The Bulls had Jordan. If you kids say that today`s NBA basketball is more competitive than the late 80`s you should notice just how many good athletes the Hawks had on Jordan in this game. There are only three major differences between nowdays and the golden days: the players are bulkier, less team oriented and heartless. The thing is no team today, nor player could stop Michael Jordan today.

  • The Atlanta Hawks were a very athletic team back then. In fact they were the superior team. But The Bulls had Jordan.

  • Look all at his quickness at 2:10 !!

  • 3:20

Wow... what a dunk by Jordan over two guys... one of them was Wilkins

  • lolz. "Now they double team" ..... "He beats it so easily doesn't he?"

    Exactly.

  • How are you going to guard him? Give him space and he'll hit the jumper. Crowd him and he'll drive. Put a smaller guy on him and he'll post up. Put a bigger guy on him and he'll drive. Pack the paint and play zone and he'll move without the ball for a cut or to get a midrange jumper. Dude can basically do everything. Only way to "guard" him is to be him up, which Detroit and New York did (which you can't do today).

  • my god what speed @2:13!!!! unbelievable.

  • Shut yo dumb ass up..

Your comments are so ignorant that they don't even bare an elaborate, fact filled response to blow that B.S. to shreds..

    Idiot..

  • @lagosdre Datz why he avg 11 assists in the 91 finals where he beat Magic, Magic was 32 there Jordan won titles at age 33,34,& 35 so dont give me that Magic was old Bulllshit you want to see a ballhog go watch kobe play

  • they could have at least tried to play some d geeze lol, i remember i saw this game live

  • notice how he doesn't choke at the free throw line like a lot of superstars do nowadays

  • "Choking" wasn't innovated in 2009 lol. Either you make the shot or you miss it. See Magic Johnson in the '84 finals. Every player has come up short at some point.

  • Jesus! @ 3:10

  • This was better than Bron and Kobe's MSG performances.

  • Damn this game 20 yrs old!

  • almost tripledouble and almost 50 in the same game

  • i could be mistaken but in another game MJ had either 47 or 48 points with a triple-double in another game, which was his highest scoring triple double, probably one of the highest scoring triple-doubles ever

  • Defense's prime IMO was 1992~1997

  • Nein Bulls Nein Bulls!!!!!! Aaron Wernli

  • sometimes it looks like his moves are choreographed by michael jackson! haha

  • Hey thanks for capping this, good video

  • Imagine MJ playing in today's NBA competition against so many european players. The statline for this game would have looked like 60/16/15 today. Man!! this game never gets old, I've seen it many times b4. That tomohawk dunk on 2 defenders off the shake & bake is incredibly brilliant. He did that again in 1998 as 35 yrs old against Jazz on Greg Ostertag in regular season NBC televised game. Saw that one live.

  • Clyde Drexler (Dream Team, Hall of Famer)

    Reggie Miller (Hall of Famer)

    Chris Mullin (Dream Team)

    wow that was easy

  • Mitch Richmond, Reggie Lewis...

  • Clyde Drexler. Reggie Miller. Mitch Richmond. Great Defensive two guard (John Starks). League was full of great players back than thanks to NO european truck load sissy defenseless talent. & NBA players atleast spent 2 years in NCAA to fine tune their skills. NOW. garbage like Kobe is seen everywhere.

Name 1 great center like Wilt, Kareem, Hakeem, Mutombo, Mourning, Parish, Ewing in todays NBA. NOOOOOO ONE !. Joke is on you sucka.

  • Word. Just to add to the great defensive wings you listed ... Gerald Wilkins, Rolando Blackman, Alvin Robertson, and Joe Dumars.

  • lol u'r obviously either a kid or know nothing about the history of basketball. Some of the greatest dynasties and players in the history of the game played in the 80s and 90s. Not to mention that the defensive rules back then weren't as soft and offense-friendly as they are today. There is a reason why mid-80s is considered the golden era of NBA basketball. The NBA today is a joke.

  • @uberathlete you are definately right !!!!! look at today's defense where players don't even sweat.

  • The SG spot definitely has more good players today. MJ's era was dominated by big men(this era has only given us 2 great big men and a HUGE drop off after that). That said, it's not like MJ didn't go up against some fine 2s/combos in his day - Reggie, Drexler, Dumars, Richmond, Mullin, Alvin Robertson and Dennis Johnson. Then later in his career he went up against Rice, Penny, Ray Allen, Spreewell, Houston, Steve Smith, Eddie Jones, AI etc. MJ faced very solid competition at his position.

  • Part of the reason the SG's appear so "talented" today is because the rules cater to them. You can pretty much chop 3-5 ppg off these guys' scoring averages if they played under the defensive rules of 10-15 years ago. Bye bye 10-13 FT's per game.

  • Why 10-15 years ago, jl23? I'd say you'd see a similar drop-off(about 3 ppg IMO) in averages about 4 years ago itself. Slashers and perimeter stars didn't begin to go nuts until the no contact rules starting from '05 onwards.

Defense's prime IMO was 1993-2004. I don't think MJ in that time period could've put up some of those ridiculous shooting percentages he did from 88-91. Although I do believe he would've come close under the post-2005 rules.

  • I believe that the teams in the era that you named were a little more defensive oriented because the league was more watered down and there were less great players on each team. Passing and shooting skills went down, not necessarily defense improving. Also that was the era when guys got bigger through weightlifting after being inspired by the Knicks. That being said, I think that the 2guard spot is more athletic but nowhere near as skilled, deep, and multi-faceted as MJ's day.

  • I definitely think a 25-28 year old Jordan could have shot 52-53% in 1996 and 1997, for instance. His FG% decreased pretty linearly with age. He shot 49.5% in 1996, and that was on like 80% jumpers. I definitely think if that was 26 year old Jordan instead of 33 year old Jordan he shoots 2-3% better. At least 2% better (51.5%).

  • LOL. It's still amazing when you read that. His FG decreased to 49.5. Still better than a lot of today's stars

  • Actually, it's better than all of today's perimeter stars. Only Wade has matched it with one season of 49.5% FG iirc.

  • I believe it. Fundamentals...it's like a lost talent

  • So because there wasn't great 2 guards back then that means it's more talented now? You do realize there are 4 other positions on the floor, don't you?

  • Based on what?

  • 3:15 was just nasty he dunk on 2 people AND the foul this just NEVER GETS OLD!! his game is BEAUTIFUL to watch

  • its funny how mj puts everything into every game and he is every where at all times noone will be as good as him.Like those people who think kobe is he sucks he did horrible against the celtics in the nba finals and lebron is the same way

  • i've never seen an athlete like him. Alongside barry sanders. Michael Jordan is artist for the ages, i was lucky to see art in motion with Mike.

  • People forget how good Barry Sanders was???

  • i love watching these old tapes of jordan it really shows how much the game has progressed over time but still no one can ever be compared to michael hes just outstanding kobe is good but hes not doing the kind of stuff michael did and lebron even though hes my favourite player in the game today no one will and can be compared ot michael jordan except me:p just joking michael jordan will always be known as the greatest of all time

  • This was awesome. Really displayed MJ's all around game. Perfect to show to the idiots and kids today.

  • That was a sick dunk at 3:15

  • so many fouls to him?

  • 2:30 is just unbelievable, the impossible move then shot

  • kobe aint doing that type of shit

  • GREATEST OF ALL TIME. (goat). "By acclamation the Greatest there ever was, The Greatest there ever will be", Thanks Micjael ;-)

  • derrick watch this game and you'll c why lebron aint better then jordan not even close u gotta be kidding me man

  • Dude, who's the Derrick you're referring to? Derrick Rose? Cuz if he said anything that implied that Lebron is better than MJ then he's effin crazy.

  • Just another day at the office for the 80s-athletic-monster version of MJ. This is incredible - I have this game up from the exact opposite angle so I've never seen this version before. Thanks for the upload!

  • Lol i was thinkin just that Hoops, u do have this game but its not the same transmission. Love it, thx for the upload SPMJ, hope more is coming.

  • Yeah, the commentary is the main reason why I uploaded this. I knew Hoops had a different feed.

  • MJ the GOAT dunks on dominique and moses at the same time and i have always wondered why thats not on any top 10 list of his

  • yup, but any of MJs top 25 dunks or beyond could fit into his top 10.

  • yeah thats true

  • hahahha i watched this game on ESPN Classic Mj was on fireeeeeeeee

  • I love how Jordan just broke the double team like it was nothing.

  • the move and dunk starting at 3:13.... WOAH

I hopped out of my computer chair after seeing that

  • he's just better, that's all

  • good work

  • thank you for this rare game!!

the move on 2:32 is sick. his reflex is just so unbeliveble. the 2:43 move is crazy too even though he miss that jumper, look how quick and determined he is in that play but going to the other direction and the defensive player has no clue and no way to guard him. that kind of basketball knowledge is what is missing today.

  • the unmatchable.
