  • Unless they replaced it later, that Bandit logo at :45 wasn't taken from the tower. I painted it on that stone. I did the Old Ironsides one to the left of it too. Can't remember the year but it was sometime between 94-96 I think. I would have been Spc. Jason Douglas at that time. Also helped paint the logos on the Gym floor. A 4/67.

    Thanks for posting these. Memories.

  • I was there 1956 -58 with the 3rd Armored Div, 67th A-Field Artillery A company, and HQ Companly, Fire Direction Control. Those were memorable times, mostly good and a few bad. The alerts were always unwelcome but most of the world was at peace although East Germany and the Russians were alwalys a concern. This was just 6 months after Germany occupation ended and we were still a welcome occupation and it was 4.2 marks to the dollar. We all loved the German beer.

  • I was there from 83-86 3rd support batallion

  • I was at Ray Barracks as a Battery Commander from 87-88 with 2/27 and 2/82 FA. Did the Nijmegen March!

  • Thanks Roadking, for the bittersweet trip to the past. It's sad to watch though when you remember the place being alive with all the people.

Anyone remember the Old Town in the 70's (Zapfhahn, Tanzbar dive etc.)?

Btw, Peter used to be my neighbor. Small world!!

  • Visit the Facebook US Army Ray Barrack in Friedberg, Germany. Become a member and share experiences, pictures, and time served. Do a search US Army Friedberg. Keep it alive.

  • B co. 1/36 Inf. 84 to 87. It was fun and met some cool folks! We had the big rumble between 5 of us against about 60 Transportation people. The court marshall hearings were interesting.

  • I served in 1-32 Armor 1969-71. It looks like most of the buildings were torn down or rennovated. Yes, Elvis did serve there. He was assigned to HHC, 1-32 Armor ("Bandits"). Initally he was in the scout platon and later served as the battalion commander's driver. When I commanded HHC in 1970, a old record playter donated by Elvis was still there.

  • this is where i started my military career 1-37 1ad i just wished i stayed with 1-37th

  • This is where I was stationed when I met my wife. She is from a town near there named Karben. We have been together for 10 years now. I really miss this place, and I can't believe it is shut down.

  • I got an Article 15 in 2000 and spent two weeks of extra duty cutting the grass in front of 1/37 HQ with scissors among other things. I didn't care, the rest of the battalion was in Kosovo. We thought 6 months was a long tour back then. God I was so miserable back then. Going off post to drink heffewiessen was heaven, and my German girlfriend, that's the only time I've ever really been in love. Iche liebe Freidberg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I still remember working at that px like it was yesterday best time of my life.

  • I was at Kirchgoens and then Giessen depot with 2/3 FA and somtimes went to Friedberg.

People told me this is where Elvis was stationed. Is that correct?

I liked how the base in Friedberg resembled a castle. I also loved the actual old castle downtown that was nearly sold to be sent to Las Vegas piece by piece! Thank goodness they didn't go through with that.

  • I remember when the area on here known as the old PX area still had our 1/36 infantry Spartans motorpool in it. and the washrack by the quartermaster building. I was there from early 1985 to late 1988. Roger Morrison Charlie co. 1/36 inf. some of the best years of my life! Thanks

  • Oh no, I'm good. Thanks for asking. I wish I had more time in that area. I spent more of it Iraq than Friedberg this time in Germany. Maybe after I retire, I will go back next year and work. guess I will talk to Dynacorp too. lol.
