  • I like this song and her voice ;)

  • A voice wonderful.

  • probaply the best voice in the songcontest history

  • Awful

  • Great Song. I think in the beginning it sounds a bit like Simple Minds' "Belfast Child".

  • 20x "I am the voice"

  • i can't beleive that eurosong had ever worth songs...

  • @icegood1980

    It had...

  • was lovely when this won- a beautiful voice- my youngest daughter not one year old- fabulous

  • I think she must hve been nervous or something as she sounded very "airy" and off key in parts. Beautiful song though. Imight add it to my repertoire.

  • I liked the celtic woman version, but uhm, is it the sound quality or is she quite out of tune here and there? 1.11 and 2.03 are the worse parts O_o btw i dont claim to sing it better, im only comparing with celtic woman..

well, NN2006, you were right about one thing, it is haunting indeed=P

  • copyed by nocturne

  • These days it's all what's it called... ah yeah EDITED... And it's really annoying because it's really misleading... Aarrg!

I love pure voices like this girl, Adele and all those ones! FTW

  • Such a beautiful song, can't help getting goosepimples!

  • WONDERFULL TALENT, pure voices are rare these days;;;

  • There are quite a few pure voices on youtube if you look for them. Check my page out ;)

  • This is the best Eurovision winner in the history of the event. Absolutely wonderful song, absolutely wonderful voice.

  • хорошее

  • i love this song it reminds me of a lullaby i heard as a kid but i cant exactly remember lol

  • I hope she's the voice that will remain

  • THIS IS THE VOICE! You are the voice!

I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain

I am the voice of your hunger and pain

I am the voice that always is calling you

I am the voice and I will remain

    I LOVE <3

  • who's the original version???

  • @lenefield this song IS the original

  • it is not just beatiful for ireland it is the best song ever in the universe

  • This version is confusing. It is haunting and her long high notes were pure but the rest was wavering. It was not vibrato, it was shakey. I kept wondering whether she could actually sing. It is noth beautiful and taunting the way she performs it. Beautful because it is soft and haunting/meaningful but taunting because it sounds like she strains to sing. I also do not like her breathing. She almost sounds like she cannot handle it.

Lovely but annoying at the same time.

    Lisa Kelly/CW <3

  • Is she Irish? must be...!

  • remember the times when there was still decent music on the esc?

  • @thinkAboutEvolution Yes, I also remember Guildo Horn!

  • I think it's beautiful, but nowadays a song like this could never win the Eurovision Songcontest

  • wonderful!!!!!!!

  • we need this again, not jedward!

  • I love this version. It's modest and has a better essence to it. Celtic Women's version is far too grandiose. We deserved first place and the people who were moaning about us winning were just pissed off because not only were we the country to win the most in the 90's but we've won it seven times, the most times anyone has ever won it.

  • Comment removed

  • Horrible just horrible compared to Celtic women. Probably won because none else sing then. Compared to Celtic women she really is bad

  • WTF like shit

  • I actually prefer this to the Celtic Woman's version. Sure, she's nervous, but who wouldn't be? She still pulls it off and the orchestra is marvelous. I've never heard of Eurosong or Celtic Woman before I watched this video so I'm unbiased.

  • very good

  • Celtic Woman's version is much better.... Eimear looked like she often almost ran out of breath during the song

  • I remember elmear singing The voice as it was yesterday and I was totally enchanted by her magical voice and the lyrics too and it made the song a very magical not forgettable song to hear. I remember my mum telling me that crimbo she had to look in every shop and even the internet to find that yr as it was a very popular song and singe to buy it that year. When I opened to find it I just played it whenever I had time on my own and I still play it now sadly as I have 5 pets to look after!

  • the 90' was the Irish decade, the 00' was the eastern decade and the 10'...

  • love the beggining

does anyone know where i could download full album, because i can't find it, help me someone.

  • @PSgameFilms

just get a celtic woman cd. much better

  • The Eurovision has become a joke, a very bad joke that no one laughs at. This song is the pinnacle of the competition.

  • The Eurovision has become a joke, a very bad joke that no one laughs at. This is the pinnacle of the competition.

  • Weak voice!

  • meh, lisa kelly's is better

  • I heard this song in an Avatar fan vid and my dad rememberd this song instantly, I was only 2 when this was on EuroSong Festival

EuroSong Festival of these days just suck, of course there are very good ones, but now the only ones that much votes are the one with a silly song or a good show. Not a good voice

  • was eimeair quinn a singer too or just a songwriter?

  • Best version I've heard so far.

  • Ich habe nie verstanden ,warum dieses Lied in Deutschland kein Hit wurde . Ich finde es brilliant. Sehr gute Sängerin.

  • Beautiful song, but terrible voice! Lisa Kelly ROCKS this song!

  • I find it odd how many celtic woman fans troll on this. Eimear was the original performer with no previous recordings to study, and she didnt lip sync her live performance in front of hundreds of millions. The only live versions of this song I can find by celtic woman are clearly lip synching. She makes several mistakes, and the song can be perfectly aligned with the recorded version.

  • emer you have such a beautiful voice, it's like Ireland herself singing. But you generate so much pain at the same time, with this song. It's that constant voice that drives our nation to fight against tyrany. to demand freedom. it burns inside us and the only release is Unity

  • Lisa Kelly all the way!!!

  • terrible

  • Adoro esta cancion

    su mensaje es tan profundo

    y su interpretacion fue exelente

  • LOOOOOOVE IT

    WHOOOHOOOO ;)

  • Nice, but I like Celtic Woman's more

  • Lisa Kelly blows this out of the water

    Not even a comparison

  • I was living in England in 96 so I never heard this song until the night of the Eurovision... interesting to hear its first public performance.. though the backing vocals near the end are kind of distracting, I'm glad they were not in the version that was performed at the Eurovision itself.

  • far to airy of a voice. Celtic woman version is better.

  • What if Celine or Carey sung this?? Yess.. ehhh... KIDDIIIIING!

  • the sweden song was a lot better in my opinion :s but what do i know...

  • Hail the Gael.

  • What happend to them?...with such a talent, they were wasted on the eurovision song contest...

  • If you don't like Eimear's voice fine, but seriously don't comment saying "Oh Lisa Kelly is soo much better". If it wasn't for Eimear, Lisa Kelly would never have sung this song.

Also, Lisa Kelly's voice is too soft in my opinion for this song.

  • Sorry, but Celtic Woman's version is a hundred times better! ^^'

Eimar's voice is a bit... I don't know, but it seems to me that she lacks of technique.

I don't understand how did she win this competition... maybe because of the song, that is trully beautiful. ;)

  • @LaryssaEvans It's her breathing that's the problem. That being said, I prefer it to Celtic woman, but I can't really listen to this because of her lack of... well, like you said, technique.

  • The eurovision is a joke these days. The public voting along with satellite countries voting for each other every year means the best songs rarely win.

  • It's not a coincidence that this was the last time there was a live orchestra in the irish final, and after this the irsh golden age in the ESC ends.

  • Its good but i like celtic women better

  • Lisa Kelly's (Celtic Woman) version is good too. This song can also be found in the Pierce Brosnan film "The Nephew". Irish film btw.

  • I voted for her back then, it was amazing!!!

I still listen to it alot ;)

  • epic song tbh. It is preety unique and could actually see it winning eurovision nowadays tbh coz the really unique ones usually win.

A really quirky one from lena this year.

A really kinda dreamy childs fairytale in 2009.

Some russian fool with iceskates in 2008 (but i blame block voting for that).

Some serbian one in 2007 (block voting again!)

Lordi in 2006 - does he need an explanation tbh?

  • beautiful song!

    :)

  • Celtic folk is the best in the world!

  • superbe et la chanteuse est magnifique!!! :)

  • Give me a break. this was a great song But this year.... this year River Dance won the eurovision. it blew people away and thats why they voted for ireland. we will never know if this song could have won on its merit.

  • @79lion79 They were different years actually! Riverdance was in 1994 in Millstreet..this was in Norway in 1996.

  • @pon3ccri ...and it won. :p so @79lion79 we do know that it actually won...

  • Lol you correct someone and youre facts arent even correct. Riverdance was in the point in 94, it was one by Ireland with "rock and roll kids(what a song). Eurovision was held in Milstreet in 93 when Niamh Kavanagh won.(Fingers crossed she can win it again tomorrow) Next time you correct someone make sure your facts are accurate!

  • @TheBlackcat239 you correct someone (in a particularly pompous way) and your (emphasis) spelling isn't correct; i don't think you "one" this one.

  • I was correcting an error by someone else not my spelling...You imbecile!

  • @TheBlackcat239 but when you're being that supercilious it would be good to get the basics right wouldn't it?

  • @neilwe 'I' don't think you "one" [sic] this one either. ;-)

  • @neilwe i think i did, recheck your original post.

  • @pon3ccri Yeah lol this was 1996 in Norway and Riverdance was 1994, but it was in the point not Millstreet, Millstreet was 1993 when 'In your eyes' won. :)

  • @123RUTH123 Haha yup i've been informed of that already, my mistake!:)

  • @pon3ccri

LMAO go look again genius how much a fool u look like now.

  • @79lion79 no more of a mistake than what u made..thats why pencils have erasers!:P i aint much of a eurovision fan, just like this song..:)

  • @pon3ccri

Ye me too as i stated originally. love the song but Riverdance blew everyone away that year. and thats why we won. not that the song could not have stood up alone but it didn't need to.

  • @79lion79 Riverdance was an interval act, all voting was done before Riverdance was revealed.

  • @botoxblonde WRONG not back then.. lmao things have changed now sure but then no... sorry your wroonggggg

  • @79lion79 And please tell me when did it change to the current system of interval during voting? Also since we are talking about 1994 most countries if not all used juries at that time, so all voting would still have been finished.

  • @79lion79

Riverdance was in the 1994 Eurovision, which took place in Ireland.

Eimear Quinn sang The Voice in the 1996 Eurovision, which took place in Norway.

The two are not connected. Eimear Quinn did not win with The Voice because of Riverdance two years earlier. She and the song won on their own merits.

  • I had only heard the celtic women version up until now. I've got to admit, this is very competitivecompared to that, and I don't know which one i'd choose. I think that the slightly lighter voice in this one makes it better.

  • Anyone Notice Ireland 1980 then Uk 1981 , Ireland 1987 then what should have been Uk 1988 and then Ireland 1996 and guess what UK 1997.. i know its pure coincidence but hey we have to have fun or we might as well never watch it again . BRING BACK TERRY. I don't much like Mr Norton , although at least he tried.

How long before he tries to turn it into a queen fest lol so to speak?

  • ireland lost its soul

  • This makes me proud to be Irish

  • this song and this womans voice is enchanting one of the best!

  • we was robbed! i still dont know how this won. after this started to win apparently the audiience started to leave, and next year we had televoting!

  • @tadge72 we WAS robbed? Dude learn some basic grammar.

  • mooiste stem ooit op een songfestival

  • Lisa Kelly smokes this girl.

  • @winedoctor011 Lisa Kelly can suck my balls. This song is the best ever and this is the original.

  • May be she looks nervous on this video, but it doesn't comme from Eurovision 1996 contest. it's an other day. On the Eurovision contest, she wore a white dress.

But I definitly agree with most of you, this woman and this song are marvellous.

  • She deserves the Eurovision Award, even though she is nervous in this video ... I will always prefer Celtic Woman's version. Lisa Kelly's voice gave me goosebump

  • I agree :) :)

  • @Theclowcard agreed!

  • The backing vocals sucked.

  • this is one of my fav songs =)

too bad she's so nervous :p her voice is shaking so much! but still great song!

  • Actually i think the shaking gives it an extra touch:-)

  • @BelgianFlemish I think I'd like the studio version of this better if I heard it (since she won't be so nervous). But I guess it could give it an extra touch :)

So, Flemish are you? :) So am I ;)

  • This is the most Beautiful song, The Celtic Women sing it amazing too but this has its own charm and remember the Celtic women never won eurovision This woman did : )

Love this song and the BEST Irish eurovision song ever

  • definently, although irish myself i don't usually rate this type of music (i'm more a fan of 60s and 80s music myself), but this song is definently a stunner. absolutely spellbinding

  • She sang the winning song but the Songwriter Brendan Graham won the contest.

  • @Referral123 I second that motion

  • @Referral123 Um....that's kinda like saying Sheryl Crow never won 'American Idol'.

I agree though, she does sing this song well. Though not with as much emotion.

  • @Referral123 I think so too! Nocturne from Norway the year before was good too, kinda the same genre. Alexander Rybak, also Norwegian, had a kinda charming song with violin, but, ehhh.. nooo.. But Celtic music is my favuorite. Being Norwegian myself, I think Edvard Grieg is the best from this land :)

  • @Referral123 Thumbs up for your account-page!

  • @Referral123 im english . Hate to admit it this song is so Haunting. Excellent!

  • I was enchanted when first this and kept playing this song for months after it was first sung I think just after the first few bars this song was a winner its an amazing song yet Irish entries have dropped in standard as late with dusin the the turkey which to me dustin is an insult to Irish music to frank in my opinion

  • celtic woman did a much better job of this

  • Why can't we produce music of that calibur anymore? Absolutely fantastic song, haunting. Well deserved winner.

  • My favourite song of all times!

    12 points from Spain

  • It reminds me the song of Norway 1995!!

Maybe they used the same way with Norway to win(again)!!

  • I like Lisa Kelly's version better

  • c´est genial

  • Go to Celtic Woman and listen to Lisa Kelly sing this song. You will be touched!

  • One of the best Irish ESC songs!

  • ireland has lost this celtic touch.,...

  • we have definitely. ireland has become a victim of the american worldwide globalisation

  • she's from my hometown in ireland and so are The Corrs... went to the same school as they did.... don't know them though...

  • answer to you neffeliodisseas:

maybe because she sing soo increnible ligth!

    but i like the song;-)

  • I ♥ Eimear Quinn!!!!!! XXXX

  • This song is so beautiful:)

  • How could somebody hate this sweet and precious song??!!Irland has a wonderfoul traditional music!!Thanks!:-)))

  • If Ireland had weather as good as music we could be no 1 tourist attraction on Earth often called as a Paradise.

  • ur too right buddy

  • her Voice is still giving me goosebumps. Spectacular!!!!!

  • I've just found another diamond in music...

  • probably my favorite winner ever.

  • Im Named After Her

  • I'm not an expert in music, but the lyrics are great and her voice is so damn good, and I loved this song very much that the moment I discovered youtube it was the first thing I was looking for

  • Soprano sounds so well with a lute (right? It sounds more like a guitar...)

  • booked her for my weddin she canceled 3 weeks notice hate her now a weddin singer didnt she do well

  • 3 weeks notice isn't that bad is it? Did she say why she canceled?

  • said her one of friends was gettin married same day try gettin a good singer 3 weeks before weddin on a saturday

  • This is true, but I don't think you need all those superficial things to make it a good wedding. I am sure it would be just as fun with a good DJ.

  • this has to be my favorite eurosong winner ever, amazing!

  • Didnt like this song sorry! One of my least favourite eurovision winners. It shoudl have been the interval act.

  • Ireland needs more entries like that, look at them last 10 years pfft.

  • aye but that was on purpose they couldnt afford after a couple of years in a row

  • bet ye they could afford it now!

  • this fits amazingly to the lord of the rings

  • she stands and sings like an angel. what a song. it calms down my soul

  • great song

  • ta si ar bhfeais!!

  • She is a fantastic singer, but in my opinion, she did it way better at the Eurovision Song Contest. This is at the Irish national selection, right?

  • Whereas I think that France should've won that year, Dan Ar Braz, you know, this shows Ireland at it's best and not the crap they send nowadays. Back when Eurosong was great.

  • She has the most amazing singing voice.!!

  • come on guys cut her some slack, do you know what a gift it is to be first soprano? This is a very difficult song. So far the only girl I know who can actually sing this other celtic woman is Alison and anyone who can reach those notes is amazing.

  • well, that means my friend and I are truly mazing! Thank you ^^

  • Not a good singer.. or maybe she was nervous i don't know. But the lyric and the melody are beautiful.

  • min hoogen and the hoogen notes came 4th in a song for norway..

sad story they all died in a plane crash even the people who owned the rights

  • Wouldn't it be lovely to commemorate all those talented people who worked on that song Dougal?

    LOL

  • even the people who owned the rights were killed in the crash and all the families

  • The eurovision song contest has gotten worse since 1996 they might as well change the name to the eurovision dance contest since that's all that seems to be on eurovision these days.

Ireland hasn't put in a decent song since wewon in 1996 and last year's effort dustin the turkey in a trolley was just abysmal ireland would have had better luck if we went with father ted's my lovely horse instead of dustin the fracking turkey.

  • There is already a Eurovision Dance Contest

  • very good song..also very irish heh

  • Gosh this takes me back.

  • that's because the CD recording CAN BE modified and her voice can sound totally different if she want's to. That's why so many singers sound different when you hear them live. But apart from that, i do think THE SONG is beautiful(unlike eimeer's voice)

  • Dude, you can criticise specific aspects of technique or whatever but anyone who isn't tone deaf can tell that she's hitting the notes right.

  • if knew just a bit about music(and i mean to REALLY know about MUSiC) you'd be able to listen much more carefully and you'd know that she misses many many notes! it's like notes were sliding off her voice and she can't control it. And she seems to run out of air every time.

  • i'm not european, but if i was, believe i would have won(since it seems to be SO easy to win that you don't even have be a good singer- just like eimeer won)
