  • Seems to me, there only negative, no positive.

  • @Jcolinsol not true at all :D me putting a smiley face was a result of a happy thought.. positive thought.. simple as that.

  • @verifymyageful

Your positive feelings, in the face of my abject misery, fill me with an illimitable woe. Despite your contrariness, you have only added further proofs of my... hypothesis. There was aplace that usedto do

  • @Jcolinsol well maybe you are just a negative person?

  • what's the fourth one? he didn't explain that one.

  • @treehugrurthluvrsupr nevermind. i was thinking of the four noble truths which are different

  • just curious (sorry if this is a "dumb" question): was he an atheist?

  • @treehugrurthluvrsupr Not necessarily...he was an ordained Episcopal minister...but he didn't believe in a "sky Daddy" deity that answers prayers & nominates which of his creations deserves an eternity in hell. Pierre Grimes, an old friend of Watts, did a video series that explained Watts' beliefs.

  • @TruthJockey oh, very interesting! thanks for the information!

  • @treehugrurthluvrsupr As far as I understand, he was pantheist.

  • @TheTempleofNature Thank you.

  • Draw a perfect circle out of as many imperceptible squares as it takes, or draw a circle then square ^2 it.

  • i was just thinking , what is the difference between Cosmology and Philosophy , and i understood.... that cosmologist tries to understand the universe By studying what's In the universe inside , then creating theories about how is all this created , but nor stephen hawking , neither michio kaku has asked a question , Why is all this created ? so i guess it's a Philosophers job to think Why , but not How ... THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE. and please give me your ideas.

  • @Leofox94 to ask why you must first understand how.

  • @puretroubleman That's also true!

  • i really don't care about religion at all bye.

  • I think that, if you are open minded, you can be of any religion and still enjoy Alan.

  • Why did you videotape your screen?

That's like using a scanner to copy a word document on your screen.

  • Thanks for posting, liked your captions too :)

  • without blue and purple you cant have red? well yes, but wonder why he did not say without blue and red you cant have purple, primary secondary qualities, except, of course, paint mixing is different to light mixing and the rods and cones retinal perception we deal with is not the same as light itself. I LOVE ALAN WATTS!!!!

  • incorrect physics, the rainbow circle is an illusion, below red is infra red, more colours, radio waves, just not visible, above violet, in frequency, is ultra violet, more colours you cant see, x rays and onto infinity... the rainbow is actually just the tiny little BAND you can see out of the actually greatly vaster range of electro-magnetic radiation. Clever guy, incorrect physics though, sorry to be a nerd about it, r...

  • a ribbon is actually a better view of a rainbow than a circle

  • "above" only because ultra violet HIGH FREQUENCY, choose wavelength as parameter and infra red is "above", and onto infinity, infinite wavelength, and ultra violet is "below"... RED is actually above, literally, in a real rainbow, physically, i think

  • Well the colour spectrum as it appears to us is better represented as a circle with opposites across from each other, but objectively its as you said a ribbon.

  • @robtherub You've missed the point. It's that you couldn't have ultra violet without red, just as you couldn't have ultra violet without blue. Alan Watts has mentioned UV and infra-red wavelengths plenty of times in his lectures. This is not an acknowledgement about the physics of light, but it's more of a recognition of duality which is a commonly misunderstood conception in eastern philosophy.

  • this is fantastic

I had a similar idea freshman year of college for my first philosophy paper - and I never could articulate the spectrum idea quite like Watts has here! Excellent.

  • excellent choice...thx

  • 5* and faved! I love putting this and the Manly Hall on for my boy and I to listen to in the morning while were getting the chores done. I can see why Watts is one of your favorites. You have some amazing interviews and dialogues, PLEASE keep posting them buddy, I am in the LAND of on order and delivery, so this is the best way to get the goods! Thanks for the post! rp

  • I snatched those (both) off Google - the Alan Watts piece can be found on google under "The Middle Way" (appx 50 min), just make sure & go to google VIDEO. The Manly P Hall piece is also available on google video - it's called "Love of Truth" (appx 75 min)...there are several videos by Manly Hall - my favorite is called "Success is the Accomplishment of the Necessary". I can listen to both those dudes 24/7...

One is a mystic, the other is steeped in eastern thought - but they are similar.

  • Alan is very well studied as you also are TruthJockey. Also you are not a Merchant of Fear and Hate like hmmmm... oh ummm..

    what's that guy.... uh...

    Alex something.....

yeh uhhh... you know he has those websites uh...

    prison party and dissinfo war

I think that's it. Like Alex Bones uh.. huh...

  • hahahaha

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting :)
