  • Kerry, like your vids but starting with the loop on the inside of your hand is a definitive mistake as it will loosen once you make a fist as opposed to tightening when you start with the back of your hand. All the best

  • @boxing1000 Not that it will affect me at my age, but it might help the young guys starting out. After more than 30 years in the sport I never had anyone point that out. Thanks for the tip.

  • @usageofdestruction no, not favorite comments, uploader comments lol. Like comment from the person that uploaded it.

  • Just go to a gym,slouches!

  • dont wrap ur hands like that because if you do that and have a hard heavy bag workout your going to get alot of cuts on your hands... I know because thats how i used to wrap my hands and every time id get cuts on my knuckles... Buy hand wrap gloves takes less time and you dont have to worry about getting cuts or cutting off circulation to ur hands.

  • i would like to get into boxing because im interested in it, but im afraid to say anything to any possible gyms because im pretty overweight for my age. the main reason i admire boxers is because they are so fit and i would like to look like that. problem is, my schoolwork really doesn't leave me with any adequate time to do much. does anyone have any tips or advice, because although it is unlikely that i will ever become a real boxer, i would like to learn the technique.

  • i mean strength

  • this is a stupid question but im curious . does boxing require strenght ?

  • If you can't find a gym in your area go to my website ProBoxerFitness com We have over 50 videos on boxing, fitness, nutrition, and diet. There are tips from world class pro boxers and trainers. The course is worth several hundred dollars, but we are offering it now for only $47.

  • @KerryPharr What is the best way to find a good boxing gym? I live in the middle of Toronto and they only have expensive boxing franchises... They charge about 150-200+ a month. Is there good technique to finding a good local cheap boxing gym?

  • i didnt ask how to wrap wrap around my hand :P

  • thanks for the tip..

  • It doesn't matter if you are skinny now, you will grow into manhood. One of my best boxers was 6'6 and 165 pounds when he came to the gym as a teenager. He ended up being a world class professional, ranked as high as number six in the world at Cruiserweight by the WBO. He beat Phil Jackson, he also knocked our former world champions Iran Barkley, and J.B. Williamson. His name is Keith McKnight.

  • @KerryPharr hey im 16 and im 5.5 i think till growing and 150 pound do u think i can be a boxer??

  • @KerryPharr Hi I just watched this movie real steel and I want to start boxing but someone told me that you get unsmart of that cause your head takes alot of hits.

    Is that true?

  • I'm 14 and very skinny but I want to start boxing.. Any tips and/or advice would be much appreciated.

  • Nikoli Valeuv Is the best Boxer until Haye won him by the point! But I wanna become a boxer, I'm only ten but Still will try my best to become him. In addition Nice Boxing man.

  • protect your hands or you will get an ouchy lol

  • 4:58 it looks 3D

  • i really want to start boxing it seems like a such fun sport oh though can be painful and hard at times

  • No, it's whatever you feel is comfortable. Theres 2 stances, your fight are sideways for both almost as if your batting in baseball, they are at an angle, and whether you feel more comfortable with a left jab or right jab will tell you, I'm a righty, and I stand with a left jab. It's up to you.

  • If you like boxing check out my video bagwork 1 a little competition with me and Darness1234,Who won please leave your comments.Add me on Facebook Phillip Cameron ,you can see plenty of pictures there I am an Ex 59 Commando Royal Engineers.

  • Awesome vid, i had a boxing lesson during gymnastics at school, but for some reason i kept getting punched on the abs, that was because i dont guard that area, but still thanks for this vid! loved it.

  • Good video,keep em coming

  • Im new to boxing, I live in Australia and your videos are great. I find a lot of trainers here just put you through drills without teaching the fundementals thanks and keep them coming.

  • I'm left handed would I learn to box just like someone who is right handed?

  • anyone knows the music in the background?

  • While fighting your opponent on the inside you quickly "tap" your adversary with a left hook to the head. He will raise his right hand to his right ear to block your hook leaving his body unprotected. At that point you "dig" a devastating left hook to his exposed right side. I've seen many professional boxers get knocked down after being hit with this shot.

  • @KerryPharr Cheers for this idea. I am always asking people I train with for little tips like this but noone wants to give their favourite ideas away.

  • @KerryPharr depends..some peaple dont block hooks,id rather duck and counter or move out the way, problem with blocking hooks is they stun you for a moment even if you block

  • in the movie "the fighter" his game plan was that when you punch the opponet in the head they lift their hands up then you hit them in the kidney and they fall. is that a good game plan?? like would it work? please reply

  • @S0LiiDGamerz kidney shots REALLY hurt, especially when its a hard hit. so i could see someone going down after a hard strike to the kidney. idk if it would be a succesful strategy every time tho. hope that helped somehow haha

  • This guy is Great! I know exactly what he is saying. Easy to understand

  • Thank u sir, was trying to learn some boxing basics for my mma training and this really helps, also the leaning in the front leg for the left hook works reaaally nice, i was using a variation from karate but after i tried coming foward and hook it feels more powerful

  • nice vid sir, u could punch out anyone.

  • Why do people always put stupid fucking comments that have nothing to do with the video? Oh well, I guess I don't " have" to read them. Oh yeah great video by the way.he he

  • Mike Tyson kept his hands on his cheekbones. Muhammad Ali kept his at his waist. I always taught my boxers to keep their hands on their cheekbones until they learned how to move their head and or to block punches. Once you learn how to slip, parry, and roll your shoulder you can relax the hands a little. My favorite saying is "keep your hand up, your chin down, and your butt off the canvas."

  • @KerryPharr If you like boxing you my like my old army boxing videos.

  • @KerryPharr true i think it just depends on your style and whether you have reach because tysons an inside fighter he has his hangs up so he doesnt get caught while hes on the inside and ali with his hands down cause he controlled the outside and really didnt have too block as much but what do i know i cant box thats why im looking at this video... good video by the way

  • @KerryPharr you clearly know what your talking about

  • @KerryPharr hey ive been lifting wights for a while and i was thinking about getting into boxing though does lifting wights and benching or power lifting make your fighting slower or faster and if u pratice punching while holding like 10 pound wights in each hand does that make u punching harder just wondering

  • i was taught to have my hands alot higer in my stance ( cover my face ) u seem to have then a little lower does this mean im doin it wrong or are their just different styles

  • make more videos please!

  • Very nice video, sir. Thank you! I humbly ask that you share more with us.

  • thank you im not really the fighting type but i just want to learn so i can defend my self :)

  • Comment removed

  • im a begginer too but i have been taught to throw the hook the way he demonstrated with the elbow up because it is more powerful and protects you better or at least that is what i was told. is his way of throwing the hook better for a specific reason

  • Keep your elbow up and your hand on its side so your pinky is facing the ground and your pointer is facing the ceiling

  • I fought in an amatuer boxing tournament the last two nights with no training and did well. Your video seems very helpful to me. I look forward to using your videos for tips to bring home the trophy in January.

  • yeh this is really good for learning, i learnt how to punch much better from this :)

  • he punch funny , with his fingures..lol

    good hand wrap, thanks

  • learn the phily shell if u wana box defence matters in boxing

  • Awesome and informative. Thanks for this!

  • Great video.Thanks

  • I just started boxing today and I found this video very useful. It's a great, short tutorial for a jumpstart on boxing. Thank you for the video!

  • @liddoxpenguin im thinking about taking it up is it fun?

  • @jakelong2000 yeah it's fun. sometimes you get really frustrated when people hit you and you can't defend yourself well enough but regardless its still fun. great stress reliever, can't explain in words how good it made me feel to box after having a really bad day.

  • Agree very good for Beginners like Myself, Thanks :)

  • @SirCal100 - Thanks for the kind words. If you are just beginning here is another clip you can use.
