Heh, having a band name like Hard Stuff was like the '70s equivalent of a band name like Metallica..... In the sense that they're naming their band after the style and genre of the music they make.
Gyphia, thanks for your comments. You are right of course. They were Bullet at the Colston Hall back in 1971, but am I right in assuming that by the time the LP had come out , the name had changed to Hard Stuff? To be honest, it was always an LP I meant to get, but as my interest in rock music increased, other LPs took precedent & in the end, I never got around to buying it. It's on Amazon though, no doubt!
The first rock concert I ever went to as a teenager was Deep Purple at the Colston Hall in Bristol in 1971 and they were everything I hoped they'd be. Support band was Hard Stuff, so technically THEY were the first band I ever saw. I knew of the Atomic Rooster links, but still thought HS were superb & Purple would have to go some to beat this lot! Of course they did, but HS were still good though. They probably played this track at Bristol, but I don't recall! Thanks for posting this!
Was SO excited when news of this band first broke...the idea of Atomic Rooster meets Quatermass was totally over the top, and then....this turd came out that was spectacular in its mediocrity. Terrible songwriting, uninspired playing, it had none of the charms of Rooster or Quatermass. Could never understand how this happened given the stellar line-up.
@sirlordwhitman To each their own, but I thought songs like Head In Sky were just as heavy as Hard Stuff, though I'll admit to loving everything I've heard with John DuCann. Keep on rocking!
Gotta love the sound Dr. Mr. John Du Cann can get outta his guitar!!! It should cure just about any ailment you got!!!!!! lol Rare stuff, thanks for sharing. P.S. Found out not too long ago this same trio put out a 2nd LP that is very hard to find. Maybe not on cd.

Sorry to hear about John's passing. He had a distinctive style of playing and I like his work with Atomic Rooster & Hard Stuff. He was one of a kind.

Classic stuff indeed! This is just the kind of music I play on my station. All the 70s bands that never got the recognition and credit they deserved.
Thanks for posting this!
