Sorry that it's not a machine you can control with buttons...It's a living being who you must learn to understand, and must learn to understand you. There is mutual respect. He is not your pet, he is your partner. He is not your object, he is your friend. That is why this movie will be moving, if you want an unemotional and character lacking film, go watch Season of the Witch or some bullshit.

The bond between horse and human is so amazing and im sure all the horse people understand what im talkin about. Horses are amazing animals they have such beauty, kindness, they are big and strong yet gentle giants. The book is emotional, the (hugely successful) play is emotional, so Spielberg is the right guy to make the movie emotional too. They have clearly spent full-on money on this film (count the extras!), it is going to be one of those Christmas Classics that they still show on TV at Christmas in a decade, not a flash-in-the-pan. This will be what your kids grow up with. Mawkish, maybe, but pretty awesome nontheless :)

Yes it's more than likely a very fromulaic film with tear jerking moments but that does not mean it can not be good. Fucking horse is running home with barb wire posts wrapped around it and not stopping! That scene got to me. Very Hardy.

I agre with you there, but from what I got here, a boy adopts a horse, loves it, but it's taken by the military to be, well, a war horse. The horse is mistreated, runs from battle, will probably be taken by the enemy side, a bunch of people are kind to the horse, the boy looks like he joined the army to find the horse, and, a bunch of beautiful music and happy/sad stuff going on in between
