This looks and sound like an head-crash. Anyway ... i have the same Problem here.

For me this worked: Open the HD-Case, connect the HD to the Computer. After this the clicking stops or reduces. After a while i closed the HD-Case again and try to connect the HD several times. So, one time it worked and i copyed all data (as good as possible).

And in my opinion: with a hard disk that produces strange sounds and doesn't work anymore you can OFFCOURSE open it (if you think this might help you).

lol .. idiot. you have no idea how HDDs work, do you ? you're not suppouse to open it moron. magnets need air pressure in the HDD in order to float properly. what noob .. + you can't have any dust in there at all.

and that sound, are you blind ? it comes from the motor that moves the arm duh. its suppouse to do that.

wow hard drives are pretty amazing instruments . they just amaze me . how they work sure they break. so do ssd -.-/.-ssd's suck they just literally die and stop working at least with a hard drive your data is still there and recoverable. my ssd died last year hatted them ever sense they suck. stupid things get like altimers after a while. -.- mechanical drives are so amazing!!

I had a external one that did this and I gave it a *love tap" and then it work again! I ran a diagnostics test and it passed the stress test with flying colors. Who said "hitting" stuff doesn't work?

I agree. Lucky my dad didn't have the right screwdriver to remove the cover off my drive.

Otherwise the warranty would have been void. I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM IDE drive which clicks too. I'm going to send it in for a factory repaired unti since they don't make 40GB's anymore.

For what it's worth, get a new drive. Personal experience - Price to get ANY drive "Repaired" here was over a hundred bucks, all the same, I could buy a 1.5TB drive for 140. I did neither but it gives you an idea.

With most guys who let it repair, it's because they want to try to get the data back that was on the old hd...

So offcourse, get a new drive, after your data loss is not a lost anymore...
