Excellent job, Chrisowen, but I believe this is much easier and more accurate if you play a Gminor triad at the 8th fret with open high E string. Use your 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers to fret the chord leaving your first finger ready to grab the 'C' note (G-string, 5th fret). Start on the 'G' note (B-string, 8th fret) to the open 'E' etc. and you'll barely move your fretting hand at all, while achieving a much more flowing version of the finale of the riff, with no 'stretch'.
geelad6969. I have now realised that that I stand more chance of pushing butter up a porkupine's arse with a red hot needle than I do of playing this. My guitar is now in the loft. Like you, I dont have 7 fingers on each hand. Great playing though!
i fucking want to be able to play guitar. lol. rock on mate that was superb. dont think my fingers are long enough i need some extra fingers and maybe an extra hand.
i play it a little different but this is maby more accurate i think i will try to practise it i think...if you like you can check out my cover would like some comments ....anyway this is a great song
Nice sound Chris. However, I thought the original is played in A with capo on 2nd fret. That way you can play the first bar (8 notes) in one position then shift to another position for remaining 8 notes. Also you then get open A and E for the bass notes of the chords when song starts. First 8 notes will be (First # = string # - # in brackets =fret)
Sounds great Chris, do you still plan to do the intro again in more detail for those of us who have a little more difficulty. Great job again, thanks.
Dead easy! Not when you're 61 and got arthritis ... man, what a stretch. Whatever, great instruction and playing. I've hit it so many times I'm starting to speak in a northern (where?) accent. Cheers from oz also.
I would love to, only I haven't got the TAB. I learnt this years ago by ear. I am however, planning to show the intro in more detail eg. strings and fingering.
Thanks Chris. I appreciate that after playing the boxer for 20 years I now know how to do the intro properly. Will practice it. In the meantime you will see i have recorded the Boxer on my site, but the intro lacks some of the notes.
i like your version!thanks for sharing mate!

Actually, no need to stretch across 5 frets if you simply use your open 3rd string for that bottom G note. But hey, any way you can play it is cool.

Thank you! I really appreciate it.
I've been working on the body of the song for years, but that REALLY helps on the intro.
Do you have the same tutorial on Hearts and Bones?

Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it. By the way, I'm from Heywood Lancashire - about 8 miles north of Manchester.

Why not pluck the free G (3rd) string instead of stretching to the 5th fret of the D (4th) string. Sounds just as good to me.
christiecml 3 years ago
My second finger is on the 3rd fret of the 3rd string. It is possible using hammer ons and pull offs but the notes don't flow as good

Well that really sounds great, but for the simple folk out here - what about some mention of the chords, fingers and strings etc?
