For the first time an Expertvillage-video has actually taught me something.

I'm a decent soccer player, I have never been able to chip the ball however.

Now I know what I did wrong, it was the three inner-toes, that I had to chip with.. I've also tried with my whole foot. I tried this 5 minutes ago, 2 times in a row I did it with the inner-toes, then I tried my old tactic with the whole foot, and I failed again.

i learned chipping just a few days back..here's how i think you should practice if you're having problems - the most important thing to learn is to get your toe absolutely under the ball..so imagine like your trying to scoop the ball..first don't try to chip..just hit it like you're trying to scoop it and try getting the ball to a decent height , though make sure the ball doesn't stick to the foot , for that would be a lob
