Good point. Record wise it was the same as 84-85 when Philly was actually # 1 overall, but the loss of Lindbergh hurt. As far as playoff history goes, the Philly beat New York in the 74 semis & the 80 quarters, New York beat them 4-1 in the 79 quarters (The games were blowouts. The one game the Flyers won was in OT on a Ken Linseman goal) & 3-1& 3-0 in the 82 & 83 first rounds (the infamous smurfs series) respectively. We had some success against them but this series win I did not see coming.
That's true. It's not so much that Froese let in any goals that were bad goals, he did not though make the BIG saves that Vanbiesbrouck did. Prior to this series I really didnt' see any way the Rangers could win. Starting with the beginning of 84-85 and continuing through the regular season in 85-86 the Flyers beat the Rangers SIXTEEN TIMES out of SEVENTEEN counting the 85 playoffs. . It's the biggest upset I've ever seen the Rangers pull off. The Flyers had a GREAT team.
Watch when your poor excuse for a team folds or is sold for the 8th time and moves to a real city with over 500 people. Your team hasn't won a single playoff series in 19 of the past 20 years.
i sat 1st row at this game by the net where the flyers got robbed by the refs. i had this tape stolen out of my car as i had the whole game taped. thanks for posting a great rangers memory lol
How'd they get robbed by the Refs, They lost 5-2 and the Flyers were like 0-9 on the power play. They had like 2 two-man advantages and did not score. I rememver it vividly. I don't even see how the staunchest Flyers fan can say they got robbed in this game. I understand that being a fan at times clouds our being able to be impartial and objective, but that's like me saying Dave Schultz did not beat the shit out of Dale Rolfe in the 74 semis. It's not even a question of opinion.
Huge upset win in this series by the Rangers, I was 9 yrs old watching this, good times for awhile anyway until Patrick Roy came along in the Conference Finals
Still my favorite non-1994 playoff series of all time. Sticking it to the Flyers and their ape fans was so very, very sweet.

Sorry. It was 6-2, not 5-2 like I said in my previous post.

is it true that they sometimes fix fights in hockey
just to get the crowd pumped up?
or is that a rumor.

Its a rumor untill the NHL makes an announcement about it. I doubt it tho. That has to be real blood.

refs havent gotten much better since then i can see

when i think about it, the refs gave that game to the rangers!! there were so many shit calls
cowboyzsuk81 4 years ago
So many controversial calls in this game. The guys at the NHL head office should have made the final calls on goals or no goals.

i know. that one was in the net before and they called it out.

The Flyers didn't go down easy as you can see by the fights. Best fight: Tocchet vs. Paiement.

Will Sam Rosen & Phil Esposito ever shut their mouths. Doesn't Phil remember that he used to play with the Big Bad Bruins?
