Kanye has some of the stupidest songs out there... But as a producer he is damn near unmatched.. He amazes me with what he does to samples and the samples he chooses are crazy
that creative source sample is probably the hottest sample i ever heard except for james browns funky drummer. props to kanye for a hot beat but i wish he woulda left this beat to common like he was going to.
@Destinita92 Succes-wise he's definitely top 3. he's one of the only rappers who can succesfully cross from Producer to rapper. Even if he uses samples, they're all hit makers. When you look at his career he's not only produced Number 1 songs, but he's made his own number 1 tracks. If it wasn't for him, Jay-z and the rest of Roc-a-fella wouldn't have had been as hot as they were. Not number 1 per se, but def top 3. So yeah he deserves top 3, he's prettymuch unparalelled.
People make me laugh when they think there is no talent in sampling.. if there was no talent then why aren't you doin it haters? Kanye is a Genius top 10 rapper top 3 producer end of!
Music is all about looking from another aspect and reusing what is classic. Just bringing back the real music to help out the music today. Without the work of the greatest that came before us...we would be nothing. Amen

Thats one way of seeing it.. personally I see the objective of sample culture (at least one objective) as recontextualizing the music that has been forgotten.. not just the music thats classic. But Kanye is WACK compared to Dilla.. Dilla knew how to cut a beat.
@tdstewart21 Exactly. People who look down on sampling need to take a look at the music they put so highly into regard. Every song out today is influenced by elements from previous artists. The proof lies in the fact that so many songs nowadays sound similar to each other. Look at Taio Cruz and Ludacris' "Break Your Heart"? Same chord progression as Akon's "Beautiful". Eminem's "Not Afraid" shares the chord progression with a Miley Cyrus song, too. It's all borrowed music no matter what genre.
Sampling, done well for example by Kanye West,is an accomplishment.
To take a very small abstract part of an exisiting piece of music and to create something radically diferent requires a good ear, a sound knowledge of musical sources and a geat deal of creative ability.
Popular music has been an imitation from its inception Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones+ many others were often imitators of blues, jazz, soul artists that preceeded them and ofen were their contemporaries...
Nobody ever did it better than Dilla of course. Dilla took sampling to a different level that I can't even begin to explain. I have never been touched by someones music more than Dilla's. Kanye makes fucking amazing stuff and people shit on him way too much. He's got a great style when it comes to beats (pre 808's and Heartbreaks) and he know's what he's doing. Not many people in the mainstream use samples anymore, artists like Kanye kept it alive (except for 808's and heartbreaks again)
kanye went in on digging thru crates for the samples my viewpoint is the man chops up samples the best in the game. he get the pieces he wants just right not riding his dick just giving da man respect lol ( ppl b ready to say a nigga ride someone dick)
