For those who haven't been to Saigon ever or since the war it is still pretty much called "Saigon" there despite what's on maps. Even the official Vietnam Airlines uses SGN as the city destination. Their version of Greyhound Bus has SAIGON as the destination. The government office is Saigon Tourism. I could go on...

@zero00tolerance actually they changed it from Sai Gon (from the French when they took over Vietnam) to Thanh Po Ho Chi Minh City (TPHCMC). The local people their still refer to the city as Sai Gon, because the people who still live in Vietnam and failed to leave the country don't support the communist government. They have no choice but to keep quiet because those who speak out or stand up against the communist government will be imprisoned and possibly even executed.

If you go to any city in central and south vietnam you will hear many people speaking with northern accent. Also China will support the Vietnam Communist Regime (Thats how the north won against the south in the first place...with China's support but you dont hear much of that being spoken).

Ho Chi Minh created a democratic state in the first place ,and he was running socialist party ( communism is the ultimate,and also the most unrealistic stage of socialism ).
