This has to be one of the creepiest families on TV right now. From what I have seen in the show, there is no conflict whatsoever, and their calmness and happiness almost comes across as fake. They're just plain weird.
I think spanking does work...it worked on me, and I totally agree that yelling isn't the way to do it too, its not effective, it's just scary, SO in conclusion I think speaking softly AND spanking would possibly work wonders :)
two things are a little bit weird about this take. The mom is stable and wonderful, really, but the only thing that pisses me off about these people is that they didn't ADOPT. They have a great way of doing things and are loving parents (despite that nobody gets enough attention)but they didn't open their arms to unwanted child who actually need a home. Instead they selfishly made their own kids.
If I was an older child having to help out all the time and not have a life of my own or friends, I'd rather have been aborted than be in this family.
Haters have nothing better to do than sit and scowl at them because they're happy, productive and lovingly unified. They chose what they chose because it works for them. May not work for other people. Chill. The fact that they're in the public eye and still maintain that unity is refreshing.
This is an example of how Duggar 'discipline' is ineffective as it does not change behavior. Despite repeated correction, the kids' poor conduct continues. The younger kids are rarely under control - from the "Yes/Dress" show (rolling around on the floor & crawling through chairs), to a farm/zoo (chasing a full-sized hog), to a truck stop (walking around barefoot & playing with equipment amid moving vehicles). This is the result of parents' abdicating their role and allowing kids to raise kids.

It doesn't effect you in any way- I doubt that you are concerned about the health of Mrs. Duggar and she seems to be coping fine with her health so I don't know why you brought that up... and yeah, they may be different but they are a great family with happy healthy children who are probably more well-off than half of America's teenagers who are smoking/getting smashed/casually having sex. -c-

I want to say something bad about the fact that they have all those children, but I cannot do it! She is so patient, the vast majority of parents would be screaming at the kids in the same situation,me included.
After 18 Kids she's seen it all and knows that spanking doesn't work but lots of love and kindness does wonders. I have triplets and they tag team on me and I've come to realize that this is the only parenting approach that actually works. They don't hear you when you yell but when you speak softly to them they will listen (9 times out of 10 :))

It's pretty nutty to have so many kids but at least they all seem to be happy and love each other. They must be pretty thankful for TCL to come along and help them out financially though. There are tons of familes out there that are very large without the kinds of resources these people have and that is one of the biggest problems with having a huge family.
The chances of this family having two or more gay children are very likely (statistically speaking). I feel sooooo bad for these gay children. I can't imagine their brothers or sisters or mom or dad or extended family ever accepting them as gay - assuming these children would ever feel brave enough to come out.

See how much times the mother has to say "Shhhhh, mummy is trying to talk". If she just put the child down from her lap or said "Be quite now imediatley!!!" That child would have said nothing any more.

@skudaarkaat1 Well, their kids are growing up with strong positive values. All of them seem very polite and compassionate and caring. They're honest and hard working. They're always helping out their brothers and sisters instead of constant squabbling like most kids. I really like how the mom is home with their kids and both parents are very present in their kids' lives, instead of letting school, television, or the internet raise them and impart whatever values those entities hold.
@Robo1415 The Duggars are not hated, Robo 1415, but if they are others like them keep up the irresponsible overbreeding, what is going to happen to this planet, that can barely feed it's people now, in 2 or 3 generations. I don't hate this woman, but my mother was raised in a home with thirteen children, and there was never enough space, never enough quiet, never enough time alone with her parents, and in the end the older children end up raising the younger ones. This woman appears to have it all together because she's getting PAID to be on the Learning Channel and to write books. This is an example of how Duggar 'discipline' is ineffective as it does not change behavior. Despite repeated correction, the kids' poor conduct continues. The younger kids are rarely under control - from the "Yes/Dress" show (rolling around on the floor & crawling through chairs), to a farm/zoo (chasing a full-sized hog), to a truck stop (walking around barefoot & playing with equipment amid moving vehicles). This is the result of parents' abdicating their role and allowing kids to raise kids.

After 18 Kids she's seen it all and knows that spanking doesn't work but lots of love and kindness does wonders. I have triplets and they tag team on me and I've come to realize that this is the only parenting approach that actually works. They don't hear you when you yell but when you speak softly to them they will listen (9 times out of 10 :))

It's pretty nutty to have so many kids but at least they all seem to be happy and love each other. They must be pretty thankful for TCL to come along and help them out financially though. There are tons of familes out there that are very large without the kinds of resources these people have and that is one of the biggest problems with having a huge family.

See how much times the mother has to say "Shhhhh, mummy is trying to talk". If she just put the child down from her lap or said "Be quite now imediatley!!!" That child would have said nothing any more.

I simplely say "i want your eyes" and they look at me and i calmly say that what they did was wrong and give them a 5 minute timeout. There is no need for yelling.

They're always helping out their brothers and sisters instead of constant squabbling like most kids. I really like how the mom is home with their kids and both parents are very present in their kids' lives, instead of letting school, television, or the internet raise them and impart whatever values those entities hold.

the thing i hate is how they can have a show like the duggars, and glorify this so called life of religious morals, and then have shows like 16 and pregnant, it seems to me the corporations want to profit in all areas, from radio shows like alex jones, and retarded teen comedy shows, and then the left-right bs, its like how fox news preaches morals and conservatism, yet fox has shows like family guy that are liberal , it seems to me the real enemy is corporations.

I think it is cool to have kids laugh and play and have fun. I love that sound in my house. We have 2 kids of our own, but are considering adopting. I have a special needs child so I understand emotional issues as well. I think we would do okay.

These people are an embarrasment to Arkansas. 19 kids? Come on! Its obvious that they are having more children for the attention. They claim to have a "wholesome" family atmosphere that limits Television and Internet access, however they have cameras on them all of the time and broadcast their lives over the airwaves. Maybe they should call the Octomom and get her to breed some more out for them. They bring in revenue and goods for being on TV. What will happen when the world loses interest?

@heather19821982 , I dont have to list my accomplishments to you, and honestly I dont feel like having a boat load of children is an accomplishment. I dont care how much they own, how little debt they have, or whatever else these people do. They are lunatics who claim that "God" tells them to keep having babies, but we know that being in the spotlight has got to be a motive, and a hypocritical one at that. I am allowed to post my opinion just like you are. They were seeking fame and found it.

And I mean a real strategy---let people know blow by blow how they manage money, not just say "God takes care of us" like I've seen other people do.

@NolanRogers2 Just because they can seemingly afford it does not make it a sound idea. I have enough money in the bank to put a new stereo in my car, but what if my water heater brakes in my house? You have to be sensible---if disaster strikes for them, they now have all these kids to care for. If your foolish choices only hurt you, that's one thing. But whatever they do affects 18 other humans who DID NOT choose this. They have the right to do it--but that doesn't mean it makes sense.

@NolanRogers2 And, no, they should not be hated for their bizarre lifestyle. Jay Leno spends a lot of money on classic cars. but I don't think a lot of people are really irritated by that. But people do get irritated when your choices impact the lives of kids who did not choose the situation. And I don't understand--if they love kids so much, why not adopt? There are PLENTY of kids out there who have basically nobody to love them. Why not help them?

I don't hate this woman, but my mother was raised in a home with thirteen children, and there was never enough space, never enough quiet, never enough time alone with her parents, and in the end the older children end up raising the younger ones. This woman appears to have it all together because she's getting PAID to be on the Learning Channel and to write books. I come from a family of nurses and the amount of stress she is putting on her body and her mind is alarming.

The Duggar's teach their kids Morals and Decency. I think MOST of you are SO Jealous and Envious of the Dugga'rs prosperity that you just HATE them by default. @NolanRogers2 People don't like what they don't understand. I personally love the Duggars, they are such a blessing to me and my family. I may not agree with all of their convictions and choices, but I don't have to and I certainly won't be rude about it either! I think they're great because they've held true to their convictions even when they're not popular and get hateful comments. I think they've done such an amazing job with their kids and more parents ought to follow their example!

Not soon, of course, but if people like them keep it up, this planet is going to be in serious trouble in 2 or 3 generations, so if you don't care now, will you care about the world your grandchildren, or certainly your great-grandchildren will live in? I sure as hell do, and weirdos likem the duggars are not helping!
