In 96'-97' this band was the biggest....14 years since high school!...damn Im gettin old but then music was alt-rock beeotches!...In those years these guys were #1..and they earned it
@onetimejustonce dont wanna rain on ur paraid but this is grunge u retard oh and look im not even in high school yet but i hav been actouly listening to them my whole life on earth so i think i win here
@captinSideways Why do parents let their unintelligent children on youtube? I don't mind if the kid is sort of smart and has an understanding of culture and other people's opinions but sometimes i wonder how some young youtube users even know how to turn on their computer.
@captinSideways don't mean to rain on your parade retard, I don't need to, however the smashing pumpkins cover pretty much the whole spectrum of alt rock, unless you've been listening to a single CD your whole life i doubt you could define them as something as simple as just grunge.
@captinSideways I feel as though I'm falling prone to a troll here, but I felt as though I should mention this. But you do realize that onetimejustonce has legitimately been listening to this band for longer than you've been alive?
all these years i've never paid attention to this song...i had no idea they all sang!!! i miss the old pumpkins.... the new line up is like having alternates...it's just not the orginal... it's not the same, and it never will be :(
@randomdude19 Took your advice. I sat outside and smoked a cigarette and looked at the stars while listening. I saw a shooting star to the left of Orion's Belt. It was pretty awesome.
It astounds me how they wrote some catchy tunes (Today, 1979), some of the most vicious songs veering on metal (XYU, Silverfuck) & some of the prettiest lullabies on the planet such as this... God bless the Pumpkins. SP FOREVER!!!
Yes, for sure! One of the greatest of all time! If i were to only have 10 albums for the rest of my life this would be one of them! Corgan is a genious, and one of the best songwriters around!
the feeling the music gives you at the end is the strongest,it makes think about a deep orange sunset, that changes to a dep red,and when hear the piano by itself in the end, time stops, you feel young again, and the angels drown themselves in your heart.
best albums of the 90´s: 1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins 2. The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails 3. Songs of Faith and Devotion - Depepche Mode
This song reminds me of a class mate that overdosed a couple days ago, he was 16. But atleast hes at rest and in a better place, and the piano solo in this song is probably the sound of that place.
This song I listen to when I am feeling down, usually when things go wrong. I listen to it to keep from hardening against life and remembering the goodness in myself.
@19MJsPr89 yes and it is also a good way to start the same album, just listen to Mellon collie and the infinite sadness and you´ll realize that farewell and goodnight is kind of the same song, they just divided the song into two parts and gave them a different mood, one is the day and the other is the night, the beggining and the end
@llantny26 one of them but Nirvana Nevermind album open doors for bands like the pumpkins. Also 1991 INNUENDO ALBUM from queen FREDDIE MERCURY LAST ALBUM TILL HIS DEATH IN 91. i THINK PASSING OF THE GREATEST ROCK SINGER AND BIG CHANGE KURT COBAIN MADE WITH NEVERMIND CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE IN MUSIC i THINK WERE TWO OF THE BEST ALBUMS IN THE 90'S MY OPINION THOUGH
@llantny26 Siamese Dream maybe, this had a buncha kinda lame tunes (imho) that detracted. Shoulda been a single LP and left out a bunch of the more artsy fartsy pretentious stuff.

Yeah. All the sandpaper and dirt of Billy's workaholism pays off as per usual.
I can remember listening to this back when it came out.
All of this album can be listened to with reverence for example in a 94 jeep cherokee.
In a parking garage in west philly. before your life fell apart.
but, it can all come back around.

An I know my music.
I think they had the courage to deal with the sadness. And the joy.
I just saw the new Pumpkins last week, for the first time, and was amazed. So wonderful to finally see them live, though new members.
I've had an awfully hard time over past decade, but am coming back, and it's wonderful to remember when I was enthralled with this music. I'm back.
