  • the smashing pumpkins are much more than a grunge band

  • i want my kids to grow up listening to the pumpkins just like i did as a child <3

  • lol I acidently disliked this plz forgive me!!!

  • I remember when I was the 5th Wiggle. I applied for SP but they said I had a drug problem:(

  • Beautiful

  • In 96'-97' this band was the biggest....14 years since high school!...damn Im gettin old but then music was alt-rock beeotches!...In those years these guys were #1..and they earned it

  • @onetimejustonce dont wanna rain on ur paraid but this is grunge u retard oh and look im not even in high school yet but i hav been actouly listening to them my whole life on earth so i think i win here

  • @captinSideways so angry, maybe you should listen to REM or something else so you don't end up hanging yourself in the closet

  • @foxlight3 rem is terrible and why dont u hang your self in you closet because ur parents probly dont even love u you retard

  • @captinSideways nope but your parents love me. They are loving me right now.

  • @captinSideways Why do parents let their unintelligent children on youtube? I don't mind if the kid is sort of smart and has an understanding of culture and other people's opinions but sometimes i wonder how some young youtube users even know how to turn on their computer.

  • @Hypact1v3 yeah i know what u mean that guy had to of been slow

  • @captinSideways don't mean to rain on your parade retard, I don't need to, however the smashing pumpkins cover pretty much the whole spectrum of alt rock, unless you've been listening to a single CD your whole life i doubt you could define them as something as simple as just grunge.

  • @rtvandle u obviusly dont know music u dumb fuck the rifts are slow and sad and the tone to it in general is grunge so fuck off

  • @captinSideways I wasn't commenting on this song I was commenting on smashing pumpkins in general learn to read you pre-teen wanker

  • @rtvandle i was u dumb fuck learn to read and at least i jerk off ur so fucking lonely even ur hand wouldnt touch u

  • @captinSideways rifts?? XD

  • @parabolateralis the things on the guitars

  • @captinSideways yeah, its riffs. Fucking twit.

  • @parabolateralis whatever man

  • @captinSideways You are one of the most stupid people I've seen on the internet. Honestly.

  • @felix8989 suck my dick u fucking retard

  • @captinSideways I feel as though I'm falling prone to a troll here, but I felt as though I should mention this. But you do realize that onetimejustonce has legitimately been listening to this band for longer than you've been alive?

  • @captinSideways YOU, SIR are a retard....btw captin is spelled captain

  • @slarbiter suck my dick and enjoy the fucking music

  • @captinSideways lmfao also this song is not "slow and sad" most of nirvana isnt slow and sad either, SP is alt rock

  • @slarbiter this is slow and sad u dumb ass and i never said nirvana was

  • Yeah. All the sandpaper and dirt of Billy's workaholism pays off as per usual.

I can remember listening to this back when it came out.

All of this album can be listened to with reverence for example in a 94 jeep cherokee.

In a parking garage in west philly. before your life fell apart.

but, it can all come back around.

    :)

  • @openedto i completely get what you mean.

  • i like it!

  • the two people who disliked this vid are so sleepy that they clicked dislike instead of the like button. ;)

  • they don't make them like they used to

  • This song makes me cry... it makes you wish your life away.

  • Beautiful song from one of the most brilliant record albums from the 90s.

  • all these years i've never paid attention to this song...i had no idea they all sang!!! i miss the old pumpkins.... the new line up is like having alternates...it's just not the orginal... it's not the same, and it never will be :(

  • amazing song when you're somewhere at 1am to walk outside, put on the ipod, light up a cigarette and just listen

  • @randomdude19 I'm gonna take your advice here in about 10 minutes. Cheers.

  • @randomdude19 Took your advice. I sat outside and smoked a cigarette and looked at the stars while listening. I saw a shooting star to the left of Orion's Belt. It was pretty awesome.

  • @randomdude19

kenny i didnt know you smoked! :|

    -aunt joyce

  • When I have kids im going to sing this to them when they go to sleep.

  • @Bradal4ck Same here, ever since I heard this song it will be their lullaby.

  • Comment removed

  • @NiggerButcher99 That's so rude.

  • @IlyxBijillion yea, Racist too. You'll get used to it. You run into these ignorant pricks every once in a while.

  • This song is reason enough to learn how to play the piano..!

  • Very Beatlesque, I like it.

  • It astounds me how they wrote some catchy tunes (Today, 1979), some of the most vicious songs veering on metal (XYU, Silverfuck) & some of the prettiest lullabies on the planet such as this... God bless the Pumpkins. SP FOREVER!!!

  • Man its a little hard to listen too. The 90s were the greast time of my life. now the decades just seem to run into one another.

  • @uh0oo there's only been one decade since the 90's my friend ;)

  • @kidkerouac 2 decades actually.

  • @daviper1

no dude, just over a decade.... a decade is 10 years.....

1999 was just over 10 years ago....

    sorry to point that out

Love the pumpkins by the by

  • who was singing around 1:00?

  • @factsoutofbirds James

  • @MrNumberonebass Sounds like Jimmy. They all sing on this track.

  • I have the poster of the front cover in my room :)

  • This song gives me goosebumps-the good kind. Simply beautiful.

  • I'm an adult now and SP still makes me too emotional.

  • A great song for anyone who love, to send out to.

  • 100% positive rating out of 147 comments, that's gotta be the first time I've seen that.

  • I DIDN'T GET TO TELL MY FEMALIEN GOOD NIGHT SO...HERE IT IS

    - Fran¢

  • I listened to this one night while gazing up at the stars thinking to myself are there other worlds or paradise planets out there

  • This is one of my favorite albums ever.

    An I know my music.

I think they had the courage to deal with the sadness. And the joy.

I just saw the new Pumpkins last week, for the first time, and was amazed. So wonderful to finally see them live, though new members.

I've had an awfully hard time over past decade, but am coming back, and it's wonderful to remember when I was enthralled with this music. I'm back.

    :)

  • 0 dislikes for a reason. Perfect end to a perfect album

  • I played this song when my dog died and cried myself to sleep. The piano at the end gets me all the time. "The sun shines, but I don't".

  • One of the best albums of all times

  • That piano solo kills me all the times :)

  • the sun shines , but i dont

a silver rain , will wash away..

  • This album was really underrated. Note: There's a difference between hype and rating.

  • use to fall asleep to this when i was yung made me feel better

  • Yes, for sure! One of the greatest of all time! If i were to only have 10 albums for the rest of my life this would be one of them! Corgan is a genious, and one of the best songwriters around!

  • definitely the lullaby i'll always sing to my children to calm them...

  • This song and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness will be played at my funeral.

  • the feeling the music gives you at the end is the strongest,it makes think about a deep orange sunset, that changes to a dep red,and when hear the piano by itself in the end, time stops, you feel young again, and the angels drown themselves in your heart.

  • @RAINBOWPOWERBLINDS thats beautiful man

  • @stooge545 the double album was a major seller, and this song made the album a epic and human feeling of being alive.

  • The greatest album in the 90's are

    1)Blood Sugar Sex Magic 2)Nevermind 3)Mellon Collie

  • @cheefjoseph I'd reverse the order and drop the chili peppers for Siamese Dream

  • @NocturnalMorlyn top 3 albums imo

    1. dirt or jar of flies. 2. meloncholy. 3. urban hymns.

    shit my opinion changes everyday

  • @wilmotaustin i agee.

  • I would say best album of 90's..but OK Computer a very close second.

  • The sun shines

    But I don't

    What a happy little song

  • @gongargongar and an honest little song.

  • The Piano solo at the end is fun to play again and again.

  • there voice's mingle with a rough yet soothing harmony, its beautiful

  • I get goosebumps from this track. Purely epic. It contains so much emotion.

  • @ExBrutalion Although I love Color and Shape, I think Mellon Collie has a timeless quality which keeps it sounding fresh after all these years.

  • I'm so proud of myself, because I learned the piano part at the end by ear.

  • I sing this as a lullaby to my baby cousin. :)

  • i wonde rif any of the band memebrs listen to this song when they want to remeber

  • this son will be played at my funeral.

  • Just beautiful!!

    I love D'arcy's voice!

  • best albums of the 90´s: 1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins 2. The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails 3. Songs of Faith and Devotion - Depepche Mode

    ... anyone agree ???

  • @tarantino82 for me another one would be the color and the shape by Foo Fighters.

  • Comment removed

  • @tarantino82 what about Nevermind - Nirvana, 311?? but MCIS is a definate...

  • @tarantino82 Dude, any 90s collection without Nirvana's Nevermind just wouldn't be complete.

  • Best nighty night song :)

  • "Mellon Collie" & the Infinite Sadness" is a timeless album that, for me, will never get old.

  • I must say this about every SP song, but....wow. just incredible.

  • how long as that Ginger girl been in SP?

  • shes gone I think.

  • darcy has a beautiful voice, probably (correct me if im wrong) the only sp song that billy, james, and darcy all sing in together

  • @ballonmoonspoon90 jimmy chamberlin also sings in this one.

  • the piano at the end is fabulous.

  • This song reminds me of a class mate that overdosed a couple days ago, he was 16. But atleast hes at rest and in a better place, and the piano solo in this song is probably the sound of that place.

  • One of the greatest ways to end an album, purely epic.

  • I like how the piano riff and the end is a leitmotif of the opening song of the album (Mellon Collie)

  • The piano solo at the end is so so gorgeous.

  • @murmur9685 Yeah tis bloody glorious et tis

  • what is then?

  • This song I listen to when I am feeling down, usually when things go wrong. I listen to it to keep from hardening against life and remembering the goodness in myself.

  • nice

  • Another classic case of a bands peak in creativity. Great album, one of the top ten of the 90s.

  • Best closing track ever.

  • by far... really far!

  • The final piano part is such a good way to end this album.

  • @19MJsPr89 yes and it is also a good way to start the same album, just listen to Mellon collie and the infinite sadness and you´ll realize that farewell and goodnight is kind of the same song, they just divided the song into two parts and gave them a different mood, one is the day and the other is the night, the beggining and the end

  • this song makes me think in my love, who is so far away, every night!!!

  • the suuuun shines, but iiiiii don't

  • this will play at my funeral

  • i love it.

    ♥.♥

  • best way to close such a great double cd!

  • Brings back great memories, and a brilliant album too, probably their best, and certainly one of the greatest rock albums ever

  • amen to that.

  • It's actually the best selling double album of all time

  • beautiful song... I think it sounds a bit like lullaby... so peaceful.

  • the ending is just beautiful

I fell asleep last night listening to it and I had the most amazing dream it had all my friends and I think it was a beach party.

p.s. great idea to have James and Darcy sing in this song! :)

  • remenber that also Jimmy was singing in this song :)

  • The end puts me to absolute tears

    great to conclude the album

unless you count the infitie sadness or tonite reprise

  • This is the greatest album in the 90's, anyone agree?

  • YEP!! Not asingle doubt in my Mind!!

TOp 10 Album of all time for me! . . .

You should listen to "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" . . . Best SP song EVER!!

  • @llantny26 of course!

    What has happened to music?

  • @llantny26 I sure do!

  • @llantny26

I think there's Grace and some others ;)

  • @llantny26 one of them but Nirvana Nevermind album open doors for bands like the pumpkins. Also 1991 INNUENDO ALBUM from queen FREDDIE MERCURY LAST ALBUM TILL HIS DEATH IN 91. i THINK PASSING OF THE GREATEST ROCK SINGER AND BIG CHANGE KURT COBAIN MADE WITH NEVERMIND CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE IN MUSIC i THINK WERE TWO OF THE BEST ALBUMS IN THE 90'S MY OPINION THOUGH

  • @llantny26

and this song is THE PERFECT WAY to close an already excellent album

  • @llantny26

    no doubt about that!

  • @llantny26 best album ever!!

  • @otishaywater Might be.

  • @llantny26 I agree, if not one of the top 3... but yeah, I agree.

  • @83yomomma what would be the other two?

  • @llantny26 I AGREE :)

  • @llantny26 Siamese Dream maybe, this had a buncha kinda lame tunes (imho) that detracted. Shoulda been a single LP and left out a bunch of the more artsy fartsy pretentious stuff.

  • @DJMarcO138

LOL Corgan can get quite pretentious can't he? :P

  • @llantny26 its a tight race but defiantly top 5

  • makes me feel thoughtful and sad

  • lonelyness..to

  • was this song inspired by the beatles

  • yeahh this was inspired by goodnight from the beatles white album which was the closing track

  • oh god... I love this song. This morning I woke up and I thought: the sun shines but I don't.

I just breack up with a person I loved so much :(
