@pcworld88 IIRC we caught her in a cage. Even the animal rescue people don't mess with feral cats. But we eventually had to put her in a carrier by hand wearing gloves and long-sleeved heavy stuff.
I'm not sure which makes me cry more at this vid: the cute, terrified kitten or the sweet, nice human voice that's promising to care for her. Thanks for your love and tenderness to the kitties! :D
Adopted a feral once who came in the window at work looking for food. He may have been abused as he had some damage to his R eye & looked as though he fell into a vat of motor oil. Had worms, ear mites & a cold but got him to the vet ASAP & cleaned-up. Moxie was never the friendliest of cats but he grew into a big, handsome boy who tolerated the presence of others. He died of cancer at the age of 12 unfortunately. RIP tough guy.
why spending time taming an already feral-ed kitten? I tried once, a 1 month old feral (hissing and biting the 1st few days) and it didn't turn out to be a normal pet, at least much indifferent than my rest cats, won't let you pet it or sitting on your laps... hiding under the bed is his only activity.
I would only adopt a tame kitten born to a domesticate cat, much more friendly, and there are tons in the shelter waiting for adoption(ow euthanized) , why bother with a feral?
@zhengjdc Because every life is worth something. This kitten was untameable for us, but one of her equally-feral brothers lives with us and is the sweetest, calmest fluffiest darling ever. He's the only cat that sleeps with us like a human baby (stretched out vertically, not curled up like a cat).
@zhengjdc I recently adopted a feral kitten. She's still pretty timid but she's ok with the snuggles & the loves now. You just have to interact with them constantly when their little & feral.
Taming feral/stray kittens is easy. This might sound cruel but I have literally starved them into submission and turned them lovable house bound pets. I will sit down in the bathroom next to food and water and made them eventually eat next to me. After a couple of days I start patting them. Then I give them little rubs and let them out for a look around the house. After a couple of months they are tamed and easy to handle.
@mtp0202 That's how I do it, too. I leave water out for them, since they can't live too many days without water, but cats/kittens can live weeks without food. I start out by putting food right next to me, then onto my leg. It doesn't take a day or two for hunger to overcome fear. Then, in a few more days, you're his best friend.
Do not worry. A kitten will never starve itself to death if it can see and smell food nearby.
Thanks, and I loved your reply to CakeMace. As an update: this cat is now gone, but her brother is close friends with us and basically lives in our back yard. We also fed their father this summer until he too disappeared.

try something like "Yes, remove the piece of shit from your property in any matter you feel, it shouldn't be there and it doesn't like you, kind of like a spider!"
It doesn't sound like starvation since you're feeding them...but you're giving them a reason to overcome their fear of you. I would alternate days of feeding and days of training to make sure they're getting enough food, since kittens really need to eat.
We really have no problem with letting them live their lives outside.
What I am about to write sounds cruel, but I have starved some stray/feral kittens into submission. I put food in a dish on a towel and sat nearby and made the kitten come to the food with me sitting next to it. After a week or 2 depending on the kitten, I give a gentle pat and after a couple of weeks of doing this, the kitten has started the knowing and trust process with you. The best part is after a month they roll on their backs and want their full bellies rubbed and purring like crazy.
give her a month, she'll be cool. id herd that roar.. that was awsome. you have to GRAB THEM!! hold them! let them flip out.. wich they will do.. and just hold on. there give up and relise that your not going to hurt them, may have to do it afew times, mabye alot, i recomend gloves :)
My ex-feral kitten did the exact same thing when we captured her... even hid behind my toilet in the same spot... She's doing great now! It just takes a lot of patience.
0:29 is the closest sound to a roar that I've ever heard a kitten, or cat make! Poor little feller.. How are they doing now? I read from the other video that you released these guys out into your yard, are they still doing ok?
AW, I'm sooo glad. The other video? SADDEST FACE I've ever seen! Thank goodness for you, and the fact you knew what they needed to help them survive! We could use more individuals like you!! Maybe someday you'll be able to video them romping around?
Poor little guy, he's absolutely terrified....with a little patience and lots of love I'm sure he'll calm down quite soon. My husband and I took in three ferals during the past year ( two kittens and one adult cat) and fortunately for us, they all tamed down pretty quick. Good luck to you and make sure you keep us all posted on his progress.
In australian and zimbabwe, once they've caught an unfriendly hissing feral cat/kitten, they shoot it immediately.

@zhengjdc What a coincidence. In our country, we shoot people who hurt cats.

Then what did you do with this "untamable" one? gave it to the shelter ?

@zhengjdc Never! We practice Trap-Neuter-Release.

Feral kittens lucky it was in your house, any feral animal that hisses at me doesn't live long
