  • Good day mate. Thanks for the tour of beautiful downtown Adelaide. Does your car have regenerative braking? Very nice work!

  • @moviewatcher1024 - This a DC system with no regen. The only time I miss it is going down hill - there is is no braking effect, so the brakes are used a lot in this situation On the plus side I coast for kilometres sometimes - zero amps !

  • how much does it cost you to run?

  • @pyro23281 - Hi, It costs me about 1.2 cents per Km.

  • The range is about 85Kms (53miles) taking the batteries down to 20% state of charge. My daily usage is usually much less than that.

  • how many mile you get in the city on one charge

  • Thanks Floyd,

It cost $660.00 for the Engineers report (this is about the lowest to expect, if the engineer has to do a lot of work it can be up in the thousands) and $221.00 for the "Regency Park" Department of Transport inspection. No extra charges to have it registered as "Electric". The Registration certificate now shows "Electric" as the Engine Number.

  • Have you tried shifting from second to third to keep the amp draw down?

  • @paker51 - Yes, I was starting in second, then changing to third, but with careful driving there's not a lot of difference in current drain. I just like...not having to change gears.

  • Wow, very excellent work under the hood, it's so neat and tidy!

  • @kylehondarider - Thanks Kyle, who's yours progressing ?

  • @evric2008 We're still soldering the controller up, nearly all the components are in the driver board. I should post an update.

  • Good to see you got it going mate. How did it go at regency for rego? Anything special need to be done to get through? Also, any feedback on the Zeva controller? How have you got it set up and how is acceleration - it looks ok from the video :)

Did I see Marion Rd :D

  • @unnefer1978 - Regency was easy - they just looked underneath, checked the lights, wiper and indicators and demister. They did a brake balance test front wheels then back wheels on powered rollers- Passed. That's it. The longest time was the guy writing up the report. It took about 3/4 hr all up. Yes, Marion Rd and all around Ascot Park and a few other areas. The ZEVA ctrlr is great. Acceleration is very good. There are no adjustments, no PC connection. It just works well, only gets just warm.

  • @evric2008 - CHeers for the reply Eric. Nice to know it all went smoothly and was not much trouble. Hopefully I'll be there next year with my ev :)

Regarding the Zeva, so no adjustment or configurability at all? I read it was rated at 600A? So that can not be adjusted or limited? 600A through some packs wouldn't be great I'd suspect. Even you're TS pack is only 3C continuous (270A), 600A would surely kill your pack? Or am I missing something? What is your max pack and motor current during WOT?

  • @unnefer1978 - No user adjustment. It is rated at 600A. This is ideal because it is the high motor current when accelerating. I have only seen a maximum of just over 300A for a fraction of a second, and this is battery current. In my car the maximum with normal driving is about 150A and around 40 to 50 Amps for 60KM/hr and about 70A at 80Km/hr. I wouldn't want anything less than a 600A controller to be able to supply the high motor currents required.

What are you converting? Have you started ?

  • @evric2008 - I always thought if you floored it in an EV you would draw the max available until you reached a limiter or the controller overheated? Perhaps the 600A rating is split between the motor and pack? Do you know the max current you motor has used?

As for me, I'm have the car ready to go, I'm just doing research for the moment so I don't spend money on parts that won't help me achiev my goals :)

Once done, I'm hoping the performance matches the car to be used :)

  • @unnefer1978 - When you floor it as you take off, the controller supplies the high current required at a much reduced voltage so that the current at the pack voltage is lower. It's all in the magic of the PWM controller. I have no way of measuring the motor current, I understand it could be up around 500Amps. All I worry about is the battery current.

  • @evric2008 - it's all starting to make sense now lol. Also, I just checked evworks website and they have discontinued the Zeva 600? I guess I'll have to fork out a little more for a Warp 1kA now.

  • @unnefer1978 - EV Works will continue them. They are just swamped with orders at the moment. You can contact Ian at EV Works if you want one. I'm sure he'll organise it for you.

  • @evric2008 - ooh - I just checked and noticed Ian has a "ZEVA MC800S" pictured on the Zeva website - maybe he pulled the 600S because he is going to replace it with the 800S !

But yeah, I will definitely give Ian and Rod a call as I'll be buying most of the parts for my conversion from them :)
