I bought the right one from the bass player in my old band...the left one was bought from an old swedish actress who used it to record tuned bees with.
You could try looking on ebay but generally they become very expensinve very quickly considering you have to ship it and then there is always maintenance and stuff that needs to be done. But there are also new ones being made... For some reason I cant write a web address here but if you type Mellotron and then the most common dot ending you'll get there...Send my regards to Markus. He is a great guy....or search for new mellotron on line
The first sound that you play on the mellotron is a recording of a bowed double bass. That's why it sounds so unusual.
