Violent crime in the UK has been going up for yrs with a jump when strick gun control was started. I assume you are not a criminologist so I will suggest a study that is written in a simple way. And secondly the comparison of neighbouring countries seems to show a link between legal status and murder rates but it doesnt take into account the relativle ylower GDP per capita of these countries. However, coercion by gun violence is probably more prevelent as a result of easier access by crinimal gangs to firearms. Miilitary weapons are used in about 300 gun deaths per year, mostly suicides. Other weapons increase this.

Yep, CA is rigid, IL too. But many federal proposals are much more draconian than the states, i.e. CIFTA, HR45, and UNCRC. But Montana, Vermont, and many others have virtually no gun laws.

Also in Texas, if you have a CHL (concealed handgun license), they don't do a background check when you buy guns. That is done once with the DPS and FBI when you applied for the CHL.

Actually it's Article IV (so I've heard, I can't find the "supremacy clause" there).
It is precedent that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and states must adhere to it. The 10th Amdt says the states own things NOT enumerated in the Constitution specifically. So the right to bear arms "shall not be infringed" says the states cannot suppress that freedom. Yet they do anyway.

That is that crimes involving firearms and people being injured and or killed with illegal guns actually increased substantially after the gun bans. If banning most sorts of guns was done to make people safer it failed.

Murders committed by youths, also higher in the US. Now, Violent and sexual crime in the UK has been on significant dowwards trend for 14 years. Violent crime in the UK has been going up for yrs with a jump when strick gun control was started. I assume you are not a criminologist so I will suggest a study that is written in a simple way. Kates&Mauser Harvard Journal of Law&Public Policy. Vol 30: Article. Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder & suicide. There are 100s more like this one in any school with a criminology dept.

It may provide a deterrent against robberies, however statistically this seems weak as the US has a similar, but lower, rate to the UK. So do the pro's really outweigh the cons?

False. In and after national service, the individual can choose to keep a weapon at home. It is not mandatory. And fully automatic weapons are forbidden outside the army.
Miilitary weapons are used in about 300 gun deaths per year, mostly suicides. Other weapons increase this.
In a population of 7.5m, this is 4 per 100k one of the highest rates in Europe - a rate 70x that of the UK.

In countries with gun control criminals will get guns anyway. Why should only the cops and criminals have guns? What's going to happen when someone breaks into your house and you have to wait several minutes, perhaps 30, before anyone can respond. If you had a gun you might be able to defend yourself and your family, and it makes people a little more reluctant to enter a home.

Legalized guns do not increase violent crimes - the criminals will get guns illegally, generally speaking. Most violent crimes are due to economic problems. If the rich weren't exploiting the working classes, the problems wouldn't exist.
While many of these facts might be off - it wasn't just jews that died in the holocaust, and the number 13 million is greatly exaggerated, but the simple fact is that the only reason to disarm a populace is a plan to bring in a totalitarian dictatorship.

Not everyone can get a gun here. People with felonies or any violent criminal convictions cannot legally buy a gun. Only 21 and up can purchase handguns. Their are background checks. Banning the sales to legal gun owners will not take guns out of criminals hands. Even if that criminal could buy legally he wouldent,he would buy illegally because thats what he knows. A lot of those illegal guns come from mill. and police being careless. We dont want everyone armed, just the right ones.

CA doesn't recognize any CC permits from other states. No exceptions.
Also, it's impossible to get a CC license in LA County. You have to be a high-end celebrity or work for a security company that caters to the super-rich.

Yep, CA is rigid, IL too. But many federal proposals are much more draconian than the states, i.e. CIFTA, HR45, and UNCRC. But Montana, Vermont, and many others have virtually no gun laws.
Registration records? No registration in Texas where I am. (And most states). So I need not worry about that.
Also in Texas, if you have a CHL (concealed handgun license), they don't do a background check when you buy guns. That is done once with the DPS and FBI when you applied for the CHL.

Actually it's Article IV (so I've heard, I can't find the "supremacy clause" there).
It is precedent that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and states must adhere to it. The 10th Amdt says the states own things NOT enumerated in the Constitution specifically. So the right to bear arms "shall not be infringed" says the states cannot suppress that freedom. Yet they do anyway.

Canada tried it in 91 & 95 Violent crime increased! (The Fraser Institute, November 2003, no. 71:4)

Canada has 144 gun murders/yr.
Many are committed with illegal guns smuggled from the USA.
Canada has two courses of action from which to choose.
Give our 33 million citizens each a gun to protect themselves from the next 144 potential murderers...or...
make it more difficult for those next 144 potential murderers to acquire the gun that they need to commit their crime in the first place.

Gun deaths may be higher here, but overall crime is lower, as guns are used 2.5 million times annually to PREVENT crime, which SAVES lives. Your bans merely make easy prey out of law abiding citizens. Criminals love gun control, it makes their job safer. If criminals dont obey the laws against murder rape robbery and arson, why would they obey the gun laws?

You cannot compare the gun stats between our two countries until you enact and enforce a nationwide ban on handguns.
Take a look at the percentage of Canadian gun murders that are committed with illegal American guns.
We have taken care of our responsibility with respect to gun safety. When you take care of yours, Canada will benefit.
For crying out loud, your gun murder rate is 715% higher than ours. It would be higher if we subtracted crimes committed with your illegal guns. Grow up!
