  • The whole lesson is KINDNESS being stubborn in a marriage doesn't do ANYONE any justice whatsoever, very very sad. When their daughter dies I cry like a little baby.

  • SHE LAND'S ON THE FLOOR AND IT'S GOOD THAT'S 3 POINT'S TO SCARLET ON THE WINNING TEAM

  • I had to use google translator to understand what Rhett really meant and here's the translation the software gave:

I'm so sick and tired of this crazy bitch I don't know what to do! Thank goodness she fell down the staircase because it saved me from having to hire a hitman. I'm not paying child support for another baby! I've already got 32 that she doesn't know about!

  • This scene always drives me crazy...but I love this movie all the same! Great movie!

  • ohmygoodness. I don't think she was a bitch - she just had to be hard to survive. If she wasn't as hard and steely as she had to be, Melanie would most likely have died and her whole family would have been thrown out of Tara - she did what she had to do to survive.

  • I don't care. Scarlett was a fool and a cruel bitch. She deserves what she gets. Stop acting like Rhett is the fool for leaving.

  • Funniest scene in the movie. Nothing like a good abortion joke to liven up an otherwise sad film.

  • @jamocha 101 - I think in the book she DOES ask for Rhett but then gives up because she remembers that he doesn't want her. God, the book (and film) is so annoying - Rhett reads her and understands her for the first 900 pages of the book but not the last 100 pages...

  • 1:27....Aww ='( Rhett was excited, for a second. Thanks Scarlett.

  • hmmmm, shes very pretty for someone over 90 or so years older then me lol

  • ........If only someone had let Rhett know she really wanted him. The whole turnout would have been different. I wish I could see that version too. =(

  • Vivien Leigh's face at 0:36 has always made me think I would be terrified to get on her bad side.

  • Wow! I remember this movie from childhood. I remember screaming at the t.v. so someone would go after Rhett!! Grr...sometimes movies make me mad!

  • PITTY PAT! you are not fucking answering the question right! it should be "YES SIR, SHE IS LOOKING FOR YOU"

  • Clark gable didn't want to do the crying scene in the first play, he thought it was not appropriate for a man to do hahaha

  • two of the most pigheaded people, if they had only stopped being so stubborn.......

  • I just want to hug him!!!!!!

    POOR GUY!!!!!

  • Rhett's face at 1:57 is FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!! God, he was the king of Hollywood!

  • and fuck I hate the end :( but I believe that rhett and scarlet did end up together and have another baby :)

  • @izzyxd117 If you read "Scarlett" Alexandra Ripley wrote in that they had another child together named Catherine (called Cat) and they ended up together in the end. =)

  • @Kebaman39 so they end up together in the end in the book???

  • he gave her the maury line LOL.

  • Yes, this scene is frustrating. It seems timing is crucial in any relationship, esp. a volatile one as theirs! A great movie!

  • I like and they almost used the book as a script but in the movie they didn't say miscarriage. But the stunts looked real.and that was my favorite scene!

  • Wow.... scarlet is beautiful... she really is.

this movie was made in what? like 1939? most women at that time don't like this way. amazing.

  • @CHENYUNKE vivien leigh was the most beautiful woman at that time.yes the MOST beautiful woman and she still is one of the most beautiful today and one of best actresses that ever lived

THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST EVER

I don't know how many times I watched this movie.it's so amazing and you never get bored of it

  • @izzyxd117 couldn't agree more. i watch it like more than 10 times...

  • Ohhhh poor Rhett!! :( They both love each other so much!

  • Movie description: dumb pitiful whore doesn't learn to be nice tell like 9 people die,

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHA OMG LOL i almost died in class when i first saw this! :')

  • "Maybe you'll have an accident..."

    —1 second later—

    "AAAHHH!!!!"

    DON'T TEMPT FATE.

  • What annoys me about this, is that it's inaccurate to the book, where Scarlett really DIDN'T ask for Rhett, and Rhett had more incentive because of that to leave her at the end, and go to Charelston. I don't understand why they would change it.

I also have a really nit-picky issue with the lines; Rhett said "Cheer up. Maybe you'll have an accident."

In the book he said, "Cheer up. Maybe you'll have a misscariage." But that's me being annoyingly particular.

  • @jamocha101 i agree very much with your discontent but perhaps i can help you with the miscarriage/accident...during the time that this film was made, society was still very 'delicate' and actors were not even allowed to say 'fart' on the big screen or television...and (quite opposite of our present time) Hollywood tried to make everything look as though we lived in a perfect world...thus saying miscarriage on the big screen would be too vulgar and would destroy the illusion of fantasy

  • @jamocha101

I just finished reading the book this morning. She did call out for Rhett, but no one heard her and she began thinking that it was useless calling for him because she believed he didn't love her.

  • @jamocha101

It was against code to use the word "miscarriage" in the film, so they switched to "accident"

  • @jamocha101 It,s not so inaccurate: in the book, Scarlett WANTS to see Rhett, but she thinks it,s to no avail- In the film..they put words to her thinkings (a common thing in movies)- And to change "accident" and "misscariage"?-well, the Code- The film was made in 1939- HOWEVER..what Rhett says: "Indeed, and who,s the happy father" is / was a very "strong" thing to say to a pregnant woman- I don,t know HOW the Code passes by-

  • @jamocha101 it's made it so much more romantic and by accident i'm pretty sure miscarriage was implied, but i understand your frustration :P

  • wow. vivien has a gorgeous smile

  • By the way, while I was always rather indifferent to Clark Gable, I must admit he looks fantastic in that gray coat.

  • 0:29 Scarlett's eyes are looking violet-blue, instead of green. Now, Vivien Leigh did have blue eyes, but I read that light tricks were employed to make them look green in the movie. Guess they missed some parts.

  • karma is a bitch

  • I got so pissed off of how that woman didn't tell Rhett that Scarlett asked for him!!! I'm especailly mad in the end of the movie. That shouldn't have been the ending. Bonnie didn't deserve to die. If she hadn't then Rhett wouldn't have left her and I'm sure Scarlett would've confessed her love for him sooner.

  • the end of that movie annoyed me to no end... i swear... i mean she can give him other babies if only he'd stay... stupid man running away just when she finally admits to herself she loves him......

Rhett, as much as you amused me the first three hours, you spoiled it in the last 20 minutes...

  • love them both....but Gable was sooooooooo gorgeous!!!

  • -"Has she asked for me"?

    -"Don't you understand? She's delirious".

    stupid old woman...

  • At 2:45 if you freeze it it's one of my favorite parts of the movie because it really shows how much Rhett loves Scarlett.

  • 1:46 to 1:56 is the most epic moment known to man.

  • if they have this second baby...... maybe the end of this movie is not so sad...

  • that little Bonnie is so unbelievably adorable :)

but she acts so spoiled and stubborn, like Scarlett

  • @pantherpatty That's why Rhett doted on her so much, he's finding the love that Scarlett never gave him in Bonnie.

  • Is it just me or does everyone see similiarities between scarelett and yourself? And as much as you see it's destructive behaviour.. you just can't help getting yourself into shit?! Love you Vivian.. RIP sweet girl x

    BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!

  • I find it very eerie that Vivien Leigh herself had a miscarriage due to a fall that she sustained during the filming of Ceaser and Cleopatra--I have heard that this was one of the last straws in her and Sir Laurence's marriage.

  • Pittys such a creepo...

  • no no it wouldnt have worked because Rhett doesnt love Mel and Scarlett didnt love Ashely

  • what a fucking jerk chear up maby you will have a acident what the fuck

  • I'm a girl and seriously I can't stop thinking how vivien leigh was beautiful, gorgeous back then...one of the best actresses ever

  • If Mammy would have just told Rhett that Scarlett is asking for him, maybe Bonnie would not have died, and Rhett would not have left Scarlett at the end of the movie.

  • @ViewerMovies3001 WTF. Mammy didn't hear who Scarlett asked! And I think that if they let Rhett know that Scarlett is asking for him, why that could save Bonnies life? She was so spoiled and to me it's hard to find reasons why her parents "settlement" or "re-discovery" can stop her died in horse-accident!?

But I agree with you there, that if Bonnie would have been alive, Rhett would probably not have left Scarlett.

  • @tiukudaa, Thanks. lol.

  • @tiukudaa ...though in the end its a good movie lol and thats hwo the book goes xD?

  • I agree! Here's how it should be:

    Melanie and Rhett

    Scarlett and Ashley

And the world would be a much happier place!!!

  • but still, Scarlett was so mean to him...

  • an melanie did know all along.....

and the men think they know everything!!

    ass that butler.....

  • Forget Ashley.

    Forget Scarlett.

I think Melanie and Rhett are much better people :-P They should have gotten together.

  • T_T I hate this !! =(

  • God what a beautiful woman Vivian Leigh was.

  • Omg I don't know really anything about her, but, My name is Scarlett and I was named after her(:

  • 1:47 craziest foreshadowing ever.

  • i love rhett's hair at 2:03!!!

  • this is just like scarlet takes a tumble!! lol. Good movie and book

  • @nokindaway LMFAO!!!

  • He did a great crying scene in San Francisco too.

  • Scarlett got what she deserved. A fall :) I keep replaying it

  • The reason why no one called Rhett was because Pittypat didn't like her, and they were just being mean and careless.

  • poooorr rhett :((((( i love him

  • 2.19 Mummy was deef??? ; )

  • Poor Scarlett... Why did anyone hear her when she was asking for Rhett???

  • @EvitaLovely II meant DIDN'T!

  • such a nice movie which made so many years ago!!! wow!!

  • EPIC FAIL

  • HE JUST FUCKEN JINKS HER!

  • Did anyone else want to slap someone for not understanding that Scarlet was calling for Rhett ! I remember screaming at the tv "someone please go get Rhett!"

  • @kamilleseven me to i was like yelling inside go get rhett!!!

  • @kamilleseven I DEFINATELY AGREE!!!

  • Subtitles ? LOL Although sometimes the actors - particularly Vivien Leigh's rapid Southern accent - is slurred and fast and you can't always tell what she says. The picture quality is awful! Is this from the 1998 VHS or is this taken from a video-recorded tape from a televised version ? My first GWTW was on TV in 1995 or 1996 on Channel 5 the WB. I will never forget it.

  • @AmericanEvita thats how some of us country/southern folk talk though.

  • rhett <3

  • that wuz a quik akccident

  • i have to admit funny when she fell but also sad

  • I love this movie so much but all after this part its so sad

  • i always felt a sorry for scarlet in this part of the movie...

  • @misskittycat19

I know. I love Rhett but that was a really asshole thing to say. Granted, she said some horrible things but that was just out of line.

  • i always feel a bit of sympathy 4 Rhett

  • Thank you Hazel Warp for falling down those stairs for Vivien!

  • great Scarlett when she screamed and falls

  • sorry, fell!

  • In Brazil, my country, all the soap operas one pregnant woman falls in a letter.... I think they copy it from this film xDD

  • I agree with the person a few comments below me. Fucking Ms. Pittypat! Shit. But in the book her and her god damn pride is what got her calling to Melanie! Ughh the ending absolutely killed me. Shitty ass pitty pat she looks like a pig. But Vivien Leigh is a freakin doll, But is it weird that even till the last page I'm still loving Rhett and his cocky self<3

  • @CircaSurvive132

But was Scarlett calling for Rhett at the time that Pittypat was there, or was it just after. While Mammy was there, and Mammy didn't hear. I couldn't never understand whether Pitty didn't tell because she hadn't called for him at the time or because she just didn't want to. I doubt she would be so mean. She's more ditzy than anything else.

  • In the movie she calls for Rhett and no one understands who she's trying to call. But in the book Melanie is the one taking care of Scarlett, and she keeps on reporting back to Rhett, and he keeps asking if Scarlet has asked for him, she says no because she truly hasnt, You remember after Ashley's surprise birthday party how she finds Rhett drunk, He says if she would have called for him then he would have ran to her but she didn't. She said she wanted to but she was afraid he wouldn't want to.

  • @CircaSurvive132

Yes, she wanted to call him and she started to, in the book, but then she remembered and she thought that he didn't want her.

Ugh! Why can't they just love each other at the same bloody time?! Or admit it at the same time!

  • FUCKING TELL HIM THAT SCARLETT IS ASKING FOR HIM!!

Ugh.. Sorry! Had to get that out.. I wish they would just tell him!! =[

    Fucking assholepittypat....

  • @lorenaburRito You're right when I read the book and saw the movie..I was like "WTF SHE FUCKING ASKED FOR HIM! "

    Sad ....

  • @lorenaburRito

I felt the same way :)

  • @lorenaburRito I get irritated too, but it's not all Pitty Pat. Mammy was in there with her too and Melanie. Scarlett gives up calling for him just when she's asked who she's calling for. To that I reply, "DAMN IT, JUST SAY YOU WANT RHETT! ALL OF THIS CRAP COULD BE AVOIDED IF YOU WOULD JUST ASK A SECOND TIME"

  • @lorenaburRito haha I totally agree. It could have changed everything!!

  • im crying, lol poor scarlett

  • at 0:30, what a great beauty..

  • i agree! =]

  • Clark is so good in this scene....the tears in his eyes. He's so beautifully sincere. What a heartache that it ends the way it does.

  • god bonnie is so annoying. spoilt brat. lol.

  • Well, she's not exactly receiving the greatest parenting in the world...the most heartless wench and most irresponsible cad who ever lived...lol

  • @Poppy4519 Look mommy! Daddy got me this new kitty!!

    ...

    WHERE'S MY PONY?!?!

  • if only he had let her hit him she'd be fine

  • STUPID BLOODY PONY thats my opinion. oh well

  • geez he just lets her go all the way down!

  • aw, she wants him, poor Scarlett ;'\

  • im lookin 4 the movie where this movie is a clasic n i get it

  • Comment removed

  • noooo! she didn't! she was reacting to his cold greeting...it was a completely miserable for her....it's just sooo sad. she was calling for rhett and nobody told him!

  • lol youre probably

i still laugh my ass off ever time i see her fall down the stairs though

  • i know! so sad, nobody told him and things might of been different, he'd of seen she cares

  • I agree with you. When was she calling for Rhett though?

  • after when she was lying in bed ill. The only person she wanted was Rhett and she would start calling for him but then stop because she was worried he hated her or something like that....nobody heard her calling for him.

  • Oh yea, that scene was one of my favorite's because she's so sweet and sincere for once. And I think she looks gorgeous in that scene. lol I felt terrible for her there. Poor darling.

  • When I watched this film something like everyday at the age of five even then I thought Scarlett was a bit of a spaz when she falls down the stairs!

  • she was! but it's in thebook

  • what? wouldn't you be pretty spazzy if you took a tumble down the stairs and lost your child?

  • Beyond it all, however, Rhett does truly love Scarlett, and vice versa. They are flawed characters, and therefore believable. But above all, this is a story of survival and true love.

  • yaa, she's stubborn and his patience runs out.

  • GWTW is a great book and great movie, a rare combination. There are misogynistic themes that are very disturbing, but much like the racist context, it was a roughly accurate historical account. Still, it's worth mentioning that the 'rape scene' when Rhett takes Scarlett upstairs against her will (though she might have changed her mind later) should not be seen as acceptable behavior, nor the notion that one is either the conquerer or the conquered -- and all women want to be conquered.

  • That's a good point. But also (and what many people miss when they're so captivated by the "romance" of that scene) is that the story goes on to show the consequences of Rhett's actions that night...namely, the torture and guilt we see him going through here.

  • This is my favorite part of the book and movie. The horror in Rhett's face when she falls is heart wrenching!HE really does love her. In the book he just sobs and sobs. Oh!

  • love that part. i no it's not a part to love but non the less i do. thanks ♥

  • what's mean Bonnie?

  • omg hahahahaha xDDD

i know i shouldnt lol about this, but come on, no one saw that coming xD

  • que escena!

    amo GWTW

  • rhett is always jinxin somebody

  • this is one of the worst moments in the movie. rhett is not really a bad guy.

  • No, he is not -- but he has a definite dark side. He is a flawed character, like all of us, but I don't think most readers view him as an irretrievable villain.

  • He's really not a good guy, either.

They're both scoundrels, Scarlett and he.

  • yeah, he did buy the pony after all

  • You know, I don't quite think that's it.

    xD

But still, I guess it was a pretty dumb pony.

  • well we can trace it back to rhett, if you want the source. but essentially u could also say dumb little girl, for being so impertinent about the horse

  • Great! i love this movie1
