i wouldn't say this is surround sound, since my satelites didn't give out noise at all. Just my front and sub / 2.1 or stereo speakers.

It IS a good showcase for how binaural techniques can make 2.1 SEEM like dolby DTS surround sound or equivelant tho :D

@rooopppi maybe because your sound card doesnt got 5/7.1 or your headset/speakers arent attacke throuh multiple coaxialcables or light Cabels ...

@rooopppi It's because YouTube converts everything to stereo...so your best bet to test headphones, is to use a DVD/Blu-ray movie and listen though the player or a receiver/amplifier....whicheve­r one is easiest.

@Fluvance Also this is rather incorrect - the MP3 format can only hold 2 channels yes. Youtube isn't limitted to mp3 format, the default these days is actually 360p h264 video with 1124kb/sec AAC 5.1 audio. The bigger problem usually is that around 90% of available audio is only 2 channel/stereo anyway so it sounds the same wether it's upmixed to surround sound or not.

@sexytool22 ... The best bet though, as I said in my comment, is to use a Blu-ray movie, or a DVD if you have to. A YouTube video can't beat a good movie, like Inception or Transformers.

@Fluvance I totally agree. While not many DVD's toting the Dolby symbols were truly released in 5.1, you CAN find some. Many DVD's toting dolby syombols have 3 channel audio, action and commentary audio with upmixed environmental sounds to the rear satelites. This i think is the main difference between retro DVD's and their current "Re-mastered" releases.

AFAIK The Matrix was one of the first true 5.1 DVD releases, altho true 5.1 audio was used as far back as True Lies on Video Disc

@Fluvance My housemate often uses the action-packed opening to Swordfish :D Seems to work well. i should prolly test it on my own PC before giving major comments on it tho. I use a 5.1 logitech speakers cause they were a present. But i use a Yamaha based 7.1 surround sound card

yes, It is going to work with headphones..but youtube does not support surround sound.So if you actualy spent some money on a surround sound card and a surround sound system you would be able to experience movies and some music and games better..but youtube only supports stereo

@wtchluring No. For playing video games, watching blu-ray films etc, both the 7.1 and 5.1 operate on different codecs and formats. And 90% of those support 5.1, there aren't many for 7.1 and if you listen on 7.1 with a 5.1 encoder then those other two extra speakers will just run on stereo which will make it sound worse :/ You get what i'm trying to say?

@GoDxDeSiGNs ahhh sorry I did not see what you were trying to say. You are right, but most dvd's and blu-rays (new ones) support a 7.1, and all the FPS games I play support 7.1 so it does not matter to much :p.

For matter of interest I also own 2, 5.1 systems, 1 for my laptop when its plugged in, and one for my TV (for the very problem you just described)
